I think the smaller bush replacement and standard rear bush would be a great happy medium for some people. I know all too well the harshness of polybush mounts, especially being stuck in traffic for 3 hours in my dCi with a solid dogbone!! Wasn't nice at all and had a migraine afterwards as the whole car just vibrates (can see the windows and steering wheel vibrating on idle)

EDIT: I have a black series polybush mount on my 172 and it's 10x less horrible than my dCi on a purple dogbone. So don't let this put people off of polybushes lol. Just don't put them on diesel's as it's not fun if you sit at idle for longer than 2 mins! lmao

Have to try this prototype after I've checked it on Oss's car, see what you think, it'll cope with diesel torque no issue and I'd guess take the vast majority of that idle vibe out.

I'd be happy to mate! I have a 172 mount on there atm with the larger metal part in the rear mount so has stiffened it some but the front mount is a little worse for wear haha

Right, I've got my parts on their way back from the TCT show now, which means I'll have four complete dogbones with bushes and inserts already fitted, ready to bolt on available to go.
If anyone wants to try these pre-production ones, PM me, obviously being early adopters I'd like to recieve your feedback on them, both NVH and fitment - and there may be a swap for softer/stiffer versions depending on feedback - although they should be pretty good across a variety of engines/uses anyway.
They are aimed at mainly track and road cars, rather than full on racers, so take that into consideration - basically if you want something much stiffer than OE but with far better vibration/noise control than the usual poly offerings.
Obviously in return I'll do a decent discount on these test ones - less than the Powerflex inserts alone are - and you won't have any of the hassle of removing old bushes and pressing new ones in

They're replacement bushes for an OE housing, as per the Powerflex offerings, but should be far less harsh than either are, especially for idle vibrations. No issues with overtorquing/distorting the aluminium centres either.

Oh, the larger bushes have the same crenelations as the small bush does as well now - reduces the forces needed to insert the bush, and it's more tolerant of not being pushed in perfectly square:

It also has a small taper lip on that side to help it self-centre when you're just starting to insert it - should help a lot for anyone fitting it just using clamps or a small vice.

So I'm having a bit of a nightmare with these exhaust hangar inserts and wonder if you've got any thoughts/advice on how to fix? Or at least it might be some use for development.

I have 182 Janspeed system. One mount sits in fine (driver's side) the other (passenger side) just will not work.



At first I (luckily) found the insert literally about to fall out and the exhaust support sat just in front of it on the bottom of the hangar. So presumed it had just pressed itself out.

However, after refitting and cable tieing it:


It turns out that actually the exhaust support was jumping out of the hole towards the rear bumper and swinging back into the insert, pushing it out. Unfortunately I forgot to take a photo of it in this position, however you can see it starting to happen again below:



I think from looking at other exhausts, the exhaust support is normally the other way round. (It is on the driver's side of the Janspeed as well which works fine) So the forces towards the rear bumper would push into the insert, rather than pulling out of it.

(this happens within about 3miles)

My last thought is to perhaps pack the hole up with some mild adhesive. Any thoughts before I do so?

Otherwise it's back to rubber mounts and cable tied bolts!

Have you tried putting a washer and bolt in here?

The cable ties will hold the mount in and the bolt will hold the exhaust hangar from pushing out

I would think as said above, a large washer and bolt in the end of that mount should stop it sliding out and would probably also stop it being pushed backwards out of the housing too? (although the washer being on the other side might still give it a shove)

Is the centre bore quite tight on the Janspeed hangers? I made them oval to accomodate for different sized hangers but if they're on the large size a bit of grease in the hole will help too.

Well so far so good (10miles)!! Fantastic suggestion. M5 bolt with a penny washer. I'm not sure it actually needs the cable ties as the press fit tapers that way (i.e. with the force) so would probably stay, but not gonna risk testing it without.

Despite it looking quite obvious on that photo, I never actually noticed the thread in the exhaust hanger when lying under the car in the dark.

ERM, in terms of the centre bore, it's snug but slides on with a gentle pull (with or without a bit of water to help it). About what I'd expect tbh without comparing to other exhausts.

Will report back after my trip up North at the weekend if this is a permanent fix.

No suggestions for improvement, but i've had two fitted to a 182 Milltek system. Firm push fit in the holes and now done several what are "12 cars" (bit like road rally) with a good bit of throwing around and they are still in there like new. I did fit four cable ties, but this seems more to have my own piece of mind rather than actually needed.

I had Vibratech eng+gbox mounts already, but these don't give much NVH like some others claim. Fitting these exhaust mounts gave me no real noticeable increase that I could detect from the back (I do have full interior fitted). Very happy with them from the worn out standard ones with some old heater hose "fillers" tied in, so should be ideal for a stock feel IMO.

The washer has pulled very tight onto the insert (as expected) but all held together with no issues!

Noise and vibration levels seem good - better than cable tied bolts anyway! Enjoying my exhaust sound again. Really happy with the inserts now, so will write up a review at some point.

Been a bit quiet on this front - however, I've a nearby neighbour bought a Clio, so I stuck one on his at Christmas to see how it faired - no problems and everything's been great, he's really happy with it (it had some cheap orange polybushes in there that were driving him mad), fit seems spot on and nothing really needing tweaking.

I still want some feedback from regulars to the forum though - I did send dCi a bush out for testing, but he sold his car shortly after so that scuppered that one - and I still need to get one to Osspoop to back-to-back vs his solid track one, which I'm just making up at the minute since the other went on the neighbours car.
What I may do is similar to the exhaust bushes and do a small batch at a discount, just for some more feedback and testing miles, as I'd like some run vs OE dogbones too - so I've got 5 being made up at the moment now that I'm happy with the fit, etc, if there's any volunteers for testing, PM me.

The exhaust mounts are, yes, everyone's been happy with them as far as I'm aware.

I was meaning the engine/dogbone mounts that I was working on towards the end of last year - I should have specified or maybe made a new thread really
