Maddy's PB Ph1 172 Track Inspired Show Car & Weekend Toy

Any updates?

No further works on the car, I haven't been able to get access to the garage I store it since lockdown sadly

But I've bought a few bits, mostly pointless things. Rear chassis brace but was faulty but had to send that one back, not sure what I'm going to do about that. Some rear door card panels, pedal covers..
Still looking out for a PMS or Cup Alternator setup in order to fit the ITBs - might just buy a new PMS at this rate lol

But I have found a video on YouTube where my bodies have been fitted to a car with a/c (standard alternator setup) without the backing plate so will be trying this first :) (WestMods, unsure if anyone knows them?)

Hopefully now lockdown rules have been slackened I will be able to go to the car & do some work

At least with the cancellation/postponement of most shows there's less pressure

But all quiet here for now

Yesterday I managed to visit the car to do some works

Fitted a sticker (boring)

Had the bodies fitted whilst I faffed about with the loom plug for the ME221. I think they look great
Couldn't fit the backing plate for the filter due to the OE position of the alternator (as seen in pics) so will be ordering the PMS a/c delete kit to solve this

More attention required at the fuel rail as the kit came with part of a custom loom which doesn't seem to fit my car or the 197 injectors I planned to run so back to the drawing board there

Now on the immediate shopping list is a tuning lead for the ME221 so I can load a base map on to try & start the car
Obvs the a/c delete from PMS & will be changing the Vibratechnics upper engine mount for a PMS one as there is one bolt redundant from the lower inlet & I feel it would be safer to get the PMS design
Some Type D coolant too for when we fit the new slim radiator

Bit of a leak of brake fluid due to the jack losing pressure and letting the engine drop & then jacking it back up to refit the aux belt etc (pointless now I'm fitting the a/c delete)

No idea where the power steering res will be relocated to. I've tried looking for aftermarket reservoirs but fruitless so far

Hopefully we can push the progress a bit more now :)

Haven't posted in a while, feel there's a better community on Instagram but nevertheless I'll give an update here

Started the electronic install for the ITBs with the ME221 PnP, pin swapping to work with the ph1 as per guide provided by ME - no interesting pics for this

Decided to buy the Air Con delete/Alternator relocation backetry new from PMS & treated myself to an upper engine mount too - fitted with the help of the other half & a friend
Changed the connectors on the loom to the ZX12r ones (330cc) as I have a billet rail to fit them

Secured all the ITB bits aswell as fitting the slimline caddy rad & fitted the Pipercross filter - had to chop some of my bonnet out for it to fit
IMG_5257.PNG

FItted aeroquip & braided hose for the oil breather & feed and return brake lines (run under the car)

Reattached my bonnet stay finally & fitted aerocatches - added MAD towing eye

Bought some 16x6.5 Compomotive MO5's with R888r's on as I needed a spare set of wheels & like the look of a square sidewall
IMG_5261.jpg

And this is where the headache begins - laptop would not connect to the ECU and I tried a million drivers, tried another laptop & it was fine but this wasted 4 weeks of prep time

In the meantime fitted CM Composites rear door card panels which I'm happy with

Back to the ECU issue, after a remote session with ME there's no signal to the TPS or IAT - made a database of all the pins & the colours to send to Jason Barnes so he can cross reference his ME221 powered ITB'd ph1 & realised there are some pins that need attention so that's where I'm at

EFI appointment was meant to be this weekend but no way it'll be ready by then so I'm hopefully going to be booking in with M Tech Automotive (nextdoor to ME HQ) - whether the car gets transported there or if I can drive it some shape is dependant on getting these sensors running right

Ditch it! your already half way there with the PMS kit. Save a chunk of weight, much more reliable, less load on the engine for more power, much tidier in the engine bay, makes removing the engine a doddle too AND no rack bushes to worry about, that's a win, win, win, win, win, win!

Got ePAS column & rack with my name on it but unable to collect currently & the adjuster unit in my cart on eBay lol

Been over a month since an update & unfortunately not much progress

No joy with setting the ME221 up with the sensors. I am now running the correct ZX12r TPS for my itb's but there is some soldering/crimping work to be done which I don't have the equipment for so today its been collected to be worked on by people who know what they're doing

Fitted the FK Euro tinted rear lights which have a bit of an earth issue which the garage are looking into as well

Picked up my ePAS hardware & the garage are fitting that also so watch this space

Good idea to try and diagnose the ME221. Let us know what the issue is with it and why its not connecting to the sensors. Who are you sending it to btw?

Thanks, it's at https://mtechautomotive.co.uk/

The ME221 wasn't an issue as such, it was my illiterate auto electronics knowledge lol they had the car running yesterday :) now all it needs is the fan wiring up, a new throttle cable & it's ready to be mapped. Then they're looking into an earth problem in my rear light & then fitting the ePAS

Please keep this updated, very interested to see the end result of your engine.

Aw thanks for the support!

So today's news, air leak between block & manifold apparently. There is a gasket there & I've tried asking what they think it is but no joy so no map today. Starting to lose interest again now, cba hassle..

Any updates on this?

Yep so they removed the bodies, cleaned them up & replaced the gasket and that made it run a lot happier. They had to add some springs to the bodies to get them to return & the throttle cable had to be changed as there wasn't much movement in the pedal.
ePAS wasn't fitted as the budget was eaten up with the issues but the garage managed to reposition the reservoir & secure it safely using a custom bracket.

Brake servo/master cylinder relieved itself on the morning I went to pick it up. Temp fix using cable ties but will be looking into this to make sure there isn't an issue in the future. The garage recommended I fit a heat shield.
Drove it back from the garage & was impressed with the drivability I was expecting it to stall & be a nightmare but it was a pleasure. Although I had no speedo so had to use an app on my phone. All other gauges work but the mileage isn't registering so it's 100% the speedo sensor which I changed around 3 years ago for the same issue. Not sure the life of these?

Sadly the few shows I had lined up have been cancelled or unable to attend due to local lockdowns, feels like a greater power isn't letting me show this car off haha so a few pics will have to suffice

Would you recommend a Danst ITB kit to anyone else, or better to go for a Ktec DTH kit, or a PMS Jemvey one?
Also, what kind of power does it make now?

Yeah I'm happy with mine, sounds great and drives well. My build is more casual than solely track focused though. They just need some additional springs to return, mine wasn't the only kit I know of that needed these. If you know what you're doing with the sensors etc & are not working to a timescale then they're worth it imo
I haven't experienced other kits so in terms of installation/performance I can't really comment

Around a 30-35hp gain (made 5hp less with the pipercross filter on) with 6 month old fuel + the 197 cams. The dyno there is very critical so I won't embarrass myself by sharing the numbers cos it's pub chat. The owner of Motorsport Electronics himself mapped it & he was very happy and said it's a very strong engine :)
