Sky Glass

Surely none since they don’t actually change ownership until they’re paid off? 🤔

I can see the attraction, a big flat screen telly with built in soundbar and you don’t have to save up for it, you can get it for £15 a month, doubtless even with an utter shite credit history that stops you financing a normal TV, but which Sky isn’t too worried about because even dole scummers want to watch the footy.

I think I’ll stick to my proper TV thanks.

Well I guess I’m one of the losers that has given it a go. Arrived today and managed to get it set up.
initial impressions, it’s not bad. The user experience isn’t as fluid as I’d like, but maybe it is because it’s new. Few teething issues which I’m hoping will get sorted soon and hopefully again may be because it’s new and only just set up. The tv sound quality is great and the picture quality is great too. Our 5 year old lg was showing signs of age so thought I’d give it a try.
the worst part was the puck. I expected it to be as easy and simple as the skyQ mini box to get working but not quite.
I’ll keep this thread updated with how I get on. Going to be a change to get used to without the recordings etc, but I’ve got 200mbps broadband so streaming shouldn’t be an issue. Fingers crossed.

One of the best bits about having recordings is the ability to fast forward through all the adverts. I take it you can't do that with Glass?

Interesting... I wonder how much they will charge after that.
It's £5 per month thereafter however I presume new contracts / deals will come out and you'll never end up paying that £5.

I've ordered the large one in black today. Current sky package is £69 per month, same sky package when contract is up next month will go to £125, ordered the large TV with everything I have currently for £81 per month.

Is that £81 just TV package or broadband too?

Finance of the TV £21, sky package (everything bar sports) £60

Currently paying £69 for sky Q, everything bar sports.

Don't have internet with Sky.

Interestingly getting the finance for the TV works out cheaper than buying the TV outright

That sounds decent.

There are plenty customers like for like package is cheaper with glass. Because you don’t pay for HD now and plenty are paying more for signature on Q.

I think the big difference will be the flexibility for customers. That price is without discount (12 months ad skipping apart) and in a rolling 31 day contract. It’s a different concept to the discounting and contracts on sky Q

See, this is where Sky pricing is absolutely mental, just plucked out of the air.

I have Q and I pay £69 for everything including sports and fibre. Granted it was an offer and I'll have to re negotiate again at the end of my term but they pretty much matched my last deal and threw in a newer router for me.

How long have you been with sky? My dad has had it 13 years and get obscene deals when renewing, I've been with them 5 years and it appears to be a struggle each time.

Happy with the deal I have, if the TV is crap I can send it back and go to Q again

It was my first renewal. I'd previously been with them but they wouldn't budge so I went to BT. Told Sky this when I wanted to stay on (Sky is lightyears ahead of BT with everything IMO) and the woman came back with £100 maybe instead of the £145 it would have been. I ended up getting it down to £69 eventually which I'm happy with.

Well I’ve had my large tv and one puck for a week now. The TV is quite impressive, little laggy at times, which is really annoying as I’ve got 200mb broadband, (I feel it’s because it’s VM and not sky!) the puck however is an absolute pig of a nightmare! Every time I turn it on, it won’t connect for a few minutes, then will lose connection! I practically have to unplug it each time to get it to work. I’m hoping this is something that will be sorted out soon, because the skyQ rarely dropped signal!
I am concerned about the tv though, there seems to be a shadow when the screen is dark across one side, I can’t replicate it when I try though, so I’ll keep an eye on it.

Had ours for a few weeks now. Its decent enough. We have the medium size. The pucks are w**k though.

I've had mine for a week, no issues (so far) with the puck. Which I've used a lot more than the actual TV. Generally it all seems to work quite well except...

The really annoying thing is randomly not being able to restart programs. Some work fine however the Masked Singer is in my playlist but we were doing something else so it was 15mins in when we came to watch it, but couldn't watch it from the start, there was no option. However as soon as the program finished we could then watch it from the start on ITV hub. Really annoying and it makes the whole 'playlist' thing completely pointless and it's not how Glass was marketed.

This is the biggest single customer complaint at the moment. No one has really mashed together live and on demand content like this before. And although it seems an obvious weakness. It obviously wasn’t obvious enough. Sure it will be fixed. But there might be some dependancy on content producers making their content available on demand earlier.

Even you said in an earlier comment that it would "store your recordings in the cloud" and this is what most of the marketing implied. But it's not true, there is no 'recording' of anything as far as I can tell. It's not all bad, but it's not good at the moment.

Anyone have issues with UHD on the puck? Mine is awful. Out of sync with the sound etc. Dunno if its an internet issue or if the pucks are just not really meant for UHD.

The fancy adverts and it sounds like there are lots of issues. Anyone taking bets they scrap this off after a couple years?
I doubt it, it's much cheaper to sell TV through the internet than messing around with satellites and dishes, they'll sort the problems given some time.

Does it not record like Q where you can catch up/start from the beginning etc or is it just streamed?

No, it never records like Q. It's all just streamed, which is generally fine. You add things to a playlist and click on them to watch them.
But sometimes, when a program has already started and is still on, you can restart from the beginning and sometimes you can't. When you can't you have to wait for the program to end and become available on its broadcaster's streaming service to then watch it from the start. It's very silly and annoying.

It sounds like TiVo. Where you could just select programs from the EPG and watch them whenever.

What happens with things like football and other sports? Sometimes I’ll sit down to watch a match but might have had it on record and end up watching it y 10-20 minutes late. Can I do that with Glass?

I've now been having a terrible time with the puck. I thought by leaving it a few months after release that most of the really bad problems would have been ironed out. However the TV seems absolutely fine so at least the wife is happy.
I've read lots of the threads on the skyhelp forum and experimented with all the different settings on the puck with no improvement. I've tested internet speed through netflix and have 75Mb at the puck.
The puck will randomly fail to turn on and then cycles many times before actually starting. In use it will randomly freeze or become unresponsive. Sometimes when it turns on it tells me I have no internet connection even though I do and when you go into connection settings it shows the puck connected.
The worst bit is that the puck interferes with the HDMI ARC so that my AV box will not turn on with the TV if the puck is plugged in. Let alone the puck remote turning anything else on, that just doesn't work. Also while the puck is plugged into my AV box and I'm using the PS5 there is a frequent and intermittent interruption causing the screen to go black which is really annoying in the middle of a game. It doesn't matter if the puck is on, or off, it doesn't matter if HDMI control is on or off.

There's clearly something wrong with the way the puck uses HDMI, so I'm waiting for a delivery of some brand new HDMI 2.1 cables to see if that makes any difference, then it's going to have to be Sky customer services. I'm pretty certain the current cables are fine though.

So, I don't have sky sports at the moment and would hope that with them it wouldn't be a problem and the 'start from beginning' function will work 100% of the time. If the game is with another provider like BT or BBC then it appears that it may work sometimes... other times you have to wait until the program has finished to watch it from the beginning through the provider's own app.

@Oxyuris I too have problems with my puck, it randomly loses connection to the Wi-Fi but only when turning on, so think it’s a searching issue, however I never had the problems with the skyQ little box.
the other thing I have is the same as you, my puck takes ages to start up, and sometimes randomly won’t turn on at all, then I have to pull the plug, wait for it to start up, then not connect to Wi-Fi, then load up. It’s a nightmare!! I also find the catch-up apps are very slow to respond to being selected on the puck, whereas the tv is instant.
Thankfully the tv is actually working really well, so like you the wife is happy.

Sky Q is utter s**t the more it's gets updated. I'm sick to death of it but there is genuinely no decent alternative.

I can't say I've noticed any issues with my Sky Q.
I don't have the UHD pack which I'm a bit annoyed at because I was a cheapskate and now they are bringing in HDR but my 1tb box isn't compatible.
Maybe they will do me an offer when I renew.
