Different oils have different thermal properties. Some oils dont take heat away from components as well, some dont release it very well. Some oils run cooler than others. Along with these temp changes are viscosity changes which affects oil pressure.

halfords and small 2 ton jacks are crap, the seals perish and they go sloppy, orrid stuff, plus a high seat hight means no no to low cars.
Just pop into machinemart and pickup a low seat 3 ton jack with 2 axle stands, low seat height version available.
Cheap jacks are that, cheap.
If your just taking the engine out and replacing ancilliaries then you have nothing to worry about, its all very straight forward with the engine out.

you cant read a plug in a car thats old and that has been anywhere near idle. THe plug will only tell you the last few fires its been through, so reading them means you have to cut fuel off (engine off) at the point you want to read.
