Advice on cambelt change please - Mk1

Hi, My H reg Mk1 Phase 1 (1.2 E type engine) is now on 102K and 16 years old and it is due for another cambelt change. I want to do this myself as it is a good learning experience and plan to do it over Christmas (that can be the cars Christmas present :-) so I have plenty of time if it goes...

Strange Light behaviour. Could it be the shunt?

Hi, my Mk1 Ph 1 Clio is troubling me. The nearside side light, nearside tail light and both licence plate lights are all kaput. The bulbs & fuses are fine, there are just no volts getting to any of them. I had a quick look at the Haynes wiring diagrams and after a lie down with a...

How much are prepared to spend on modifications?

bout £50 front grill was broken so replaced it with mesh (£57 quid for a new one from Reno, I don't think) and the rest spent on paint doing trim changes. Have 3 children so money goes on that /Mad

    De-Badging....

All depends on which Mk you have. The Mk1 Ph1 def has glue and pins and they are stuck on to the boot strip, not the actual boot. /Mad

    Starter motor

I have just fixed the same problem on my car. Symptom: intermittent starting either hot or cold. I was getting a clicking sound but I later found that this was not the solenoid as it was too quiet. The solenoid on my car (Mk1 Phase 1) makes quite a considerable clunk as it shoots the gears...

    central door locking

I think I have a spare plip lying about that you could have. Had to butcher it as my key wouldnt fit the plip my central locking came with, so took a hacksaw to the pcb board and cut it down in size so that it fitted the other plip and all works fine. Let me have a dig about and see if I...

    central door locking

Here is a scan of the Haynes manual showing the central locking wiring schematic. I colour coded it a while ago for my own benefit, not all the wire colours are the same on the car, Renault seem to swap them about a bit. http://img100.exs.cx/img100/5764/wiringdiag7xj.pngLink to schematic...

    rear boot light led (mk1)

Just buy a LED holder and the right resistor and you can fit any LED, remember that LEDs are very directional so you wont get very good lighting in the boot. I added two LEDs to the boot which come on automatically when the boot is opened, and also kept the orignal white light (with new...

    Valver door panels

The door cards have a sealant that goes round the edge. It is like a combination of superglue and bluetack. Took me over a week to remove it and the hairs from my arms. Now I wear a long sleeve top when taking panels off. /Mad
