Currently filling the linkage with lead shot

If this sorts the PMS rattle. I’m going to cum myself with happiness. 😂 it’s been driving me mental
You're better just filling the boot with red grease mate. It'll take 95% of the rattle away and doesn't lead (no pun intended) to a weighty shifter.

Changing the bearing, adding an oring under the sleeve and applying a silicone layer between the shell and the shifter also helps.

Interior looks lovely now! Some renaultsport show plates would finish this right off 🫦

To be honest, the slightly weightier movement is actually more to my liking.

Defo needs show plates 😜😘😂

As mentioned. I’ve got a few things to sort.

Next up I need to sort the rear calipers / handbrake cables. They really aren’t doing much and one is more involved than the other. It is noticeable under heavy braking.

I’ve still got some paint to sort. And the headlights.

Somehow the light level sensor has popped off so need to sort that.

I have a very slight exhaust leak in the middle section. Which is a nice easy fix.

Need to order a carbon splitter.

Oh, and the right hand volume control on the steering column keeps falling out. So need to figure that out.

Starting to refurb the front grille and fog surrounds.

They’ve been done before by the looks but it doesn’t appear it was prepped. Eitherway, time for a refresh.

Few before pics. I shall be doing these and and when I get a minute over the coming days.

Will be going satin.

Small update.

Car sailed through it's MOT but I am aware that the rear brakes aren't playing ball at the moment. Seeing as I'm already balls deep in to this project, I've ordered new calipers, SNR OEM discs, another new set of pads and a new spacer to renew the lot.

I have a constant 'whiring' sound from the car. Not sure if it's the PS3's or a bearing thats shot. It does it even when coasting so it's not the diff or box or anything motor related.

I also have a very slight exhaust leak on the mid pipe, so have some Wurths high temp silicone sealant for that so will strip it off, clean it up and re seal it.. Pending it all arriving, I should get it up in the air to sort this coming weekend as well as the headlight level sensor.

I need to sort some bungs for where the rear bench came out as well, any suggestions?

Oh, and this rubbing situation. Need to investigate if it's the well known bracket on the front rubbing or it's caused by the spacers..... regardless, the front 18mm PMS spacers will be coming off as it's too wide and no good for handling.

My front bearings failed on my BG. Despite driving it daily, I didn't realize the extent of the issue until they nearly fell apart.

I had a suspicion that something was amiss. To test it, I would drive along the motorway, shift into neutral, and let it coast, but the problem was difficult to detect thanks to the drone of the exhaust.

Just before the bearings finally gave out, the sound became unmistakable, particularly when approaching a roundabout — a sort of rotational whirring or rumbling that would diminish as I applied the brakes and turned into the corners.

What a difference when I changed them though. The car was so quiet.

I will get her up on the ramp soon and rotate/feel the fronts - just in case.

Be a new car after this haha! Coming from a motorsport background though I prefer to preventative maintenance/over maintain things anyway. My race bike has oil after every race despite the fact it comes out pristine and costs a fortune.

I'd rather spend the money upfront and ‘zero’ everything than breakdown/have issues. I know you're of the same cloth

Well, all you're doing is making it reliable, so it's not wasted money if you intend to drive it. Some people like to chance it on 18-year-old rusty parts.

It's why there are so many posts on here lol

And I bet the parts you don't replace are the ones that let you down. That's certainly been the case with mine anyway.

Did you do the SSL recon/exchange service via eBay? I've just sent mine off to be done by them too. Yours looks great.

Exchange yeah.

Was hoping to swap them over this weekend but the snr discs didn’t turn up in time annoyingly!

I’m happy with the calipers. They look spot on

Went up to the unit today. Whilst idling the cars already on EML light started flashing. It goes off when you boot it though.

Any ideas ?

Car is decat so obvs the light is usually on steady anyway

Bit of a head ache of a day.

Discs didn’t turn up until lunch time so didn’t bother with the rear brakes. Will do those next weekend.

Rotated all the wheels. They sound fine, but pretty sure one of the bearings is knackered as the noise goes away whilst driving under brakes or when turning hard right.
Got new oem discs and bearings to go on the rear, so let’s see if that cures it.

I stripped the exhaust from the manifold back and resealed everything with wurth sealant. It still smells of exhaust fumes in the cabin… so f**k knows.

I took the sabelt wheel off. Reset the angle sensor. Dash lights are still on though? … abs/serv/tc. I did some testing on the way home, abs defo isn’t working. I also intermittently have a flashing eml light now (used to be constant). But it only does this when idling and then goes constant again..
Going to get it to a garage to plug it in tbh. Getting pissed off with it now.

I took out the arch liners, cleaned and acf’d everything and dealt with the brackets that have been rubbing.

I also acf’d the underside and all the sills.

Here’s some pics of some bits waiting to go on:

I’ve also now got a knock when pulling away (joy).

So this evening I’ve ordered:

Powerflex dog bone mounts

Powerflex engine mount

10mm spacers for the front as the PM’s 18’s make it handle like s**t.

If it’s any consolation my RB still gives me a whiff of exhaust first thing and that has a brand new flange, exhaust, cat, gaskets and been fitted by a professional exhaust centre. There’s very little insulation under that gear shift gaiter. Door seals have seen better days etc…so I’m sure it’s just old tart fumes you get at start up finding it’s way in somehow. Once I’m moving the car behind me is getting it 😂

They need warming up first to get the best seal tbh.

See, mine doesn’t smell in the cabin on start up. Only when driving. And if I open the windows it’s loads worse. I guess as it’s vacuuming it in. It’s at its worse at motorway speeds….
