Cup 0-60, 1/4 mile times

Got hold of my mates electronic gizmo today that measures 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. Eventually got it working and recorded some very suprising times.

0-60 best attempt 6.2 secs (got one reading of 5.9 secs but I dont think it was set up properly)

1/4 mile best attempt 14.68 secs at 98mph.

Well pleased. Hope to go to Santa pod next Sunday and compare results.

AP22? That seems a very high terminal speed 98mph? Unless AP22 is set up properly its not accurate at all.

6.2 to 60??

I doubt that mate, the cup is not powerful enough for that kind of speed. 6.6/7 is the book time, but a certain magazine have managed a 6.5. Probably with a launch king, so your 6.2 seems a tad inaccurate.

A 14.7 does seem feasable for a cup though so no worries there. Your terminal seems to be a couple of mph too high though.

I do not trust these devices at all. There is too many variables to get right for an accurate result. Was the road completely flat or down hill and what kinda tilt setting are you using?

Mitchy what 0-60 do you think the 14.0 1/4 mile Cups are doing? Because Chris did 14.1 1/4 mile and made something like 151 hp @ wheels (only 7 more than the standard 172s on same day)

It was actually 151bhp atw m8 ;). I dont see how 6.2 0-60 is really that unbelievable. I agree with the variables tho. Must get an ap22 soon.

Took me a long time and a lot of testing (using GPS) to get my AP22 as accurate as possible. Even then it gave some strange results from time to time.

with ap-22 set up in conjunction with york timing gear (ie when york said i ran a 14.5, so did the ap-22) it showed 0-60 in and around 6.2 for my old car, adi was managing almost flat 6s iirc.

This is probably not an AP-22 then, it will be one of those performance meters...

I borrowed one before and we tested 3 cars with it, but it was a tad "generous" to say the least! ;)

When we took the same 3 cars to York dragway & compared the 1/4 mile times we got there, they were all slower than the times the performance meter gave and terminal speeds were all lower!!!

The "certain magazine" that got 0-60 in 6.5secs also timed the 0-100 as 17.7secs and the 1/4 mile at 15.2secs @ 94mph...

However, my totally standard Cup with a mere 1250 miles on the clock ran 15.0secs dead at Santa Pod on the hottest weekend of the year and even with camping stuff in the boot!!!

Then I ran 14.5secs at York a few weeks later with 2700 miles on the clock, and now a Pipercross Viper, but a nice cool day, so plenty quicker than Evo got.

Remember Autocar timed their Cup as 0-60 in 6.5secs, but 0-100 in 16.9secs which is quicker then Evo got, so these cars are capable of this performance!

If I can get mid 14s in a near standard Cup and people like Chris, Tim & Charlie are running 14.0/14.1secs @ 98mph in lightly modded Cups then why is 0-60 in 6.2secs soooo unbelievable?!

The AP22 can be pretty reliable if set up properly.I took mine to Santa Pod and just from inputting the weight got figures within +5%.With more fettling of the drag etc it could be made even more accurate but there wasnt time.Just treat them as a guide rather than gospel.Useful for comparing performance after new mods are fitted.
