Give the orange dci a good clean up. Its been neglected a bit in the cleaning department recently, been used for tip runs and allsorts so was looking a bit sad.

Headlamps needed a polish as had went yellow, good 2 bucket wash, coat of oldskool collinite 476s wax, AG trim gel and cleaned the glass.

Still looks mega when cleaned up, especially for 157'000 miles and £80 purchase price several years ago. Brilliant little runabout.

Blue dci due mot this week. Ive given it a pre mot check over and apart from a pinhole in passenger side cv boot it all looks decent and should pass without too much drama.

Done a few long ish runs in it and the mpg is even better on the £25 map. Went to gainsborough to pick up a bottom end for my Kangoo yesterday and trip reported 70.1mpg at 70mph even rising up to 70.3mpg in places as lower speeds in traffic. To get 68+mpg on the stock map had to sit at 55-60mph before. I never reset the mpg so this is average over my local journeys recently too, so cant moan at all!

Orange dci beads up nice with a bit of rain on it.

Pre mot update.

Cv boot done, hour of mess yesterday. Shaft out, good few choice blows to cv with large hammer and cv popped off. Note genuine renault cv boot in the background.

Typically would not fit as aftermarket shaft and slightly bigger outer cv. So had to scrouge round and found a suitable boot in the random shite cupboard which fitted fine. It might be an inner now ive thought about it, but is flexible enough to move ok on full lock and clamped up ok so better than a split one. Its the o/s shaft sand bearing is wet on the inner so ill bang a shaft in soon.

Mot later. Fingers crossed, rest does not look too bad so should be ok.

Blue dci went through its mot ok. Mot tester said its clean underneath for a 19 year old car.

Its been getting loads of use recently covering 750 miles in the last 5 days or so. You know the miles are racking up when your filling it twice or three times a month. Work has picked up a bit so been out and about visiting live sites, and also picked up a r5 engine in it the other day. Consistent 68mpg.

Serviced it. Its covered over 11k since its in situ re ring and still running great. The semi synth oil had been in for 8k and its hardly used any. Changed it over to Elf fully synth 5/40 this time round, new oil and air filter done at 153k.

So easy to service. Its a one cup of coffee job/20 mins max. That should do it until spring/160k.

Give it a clean up last weekend as the front wheels were absolutely black with brake dust.

Same for orange dci too. Its also had quite a bit of use recently.

Next jobs will be to check over the orange dci ready for mot in December.

Small update

Blue dci pinged the eml up a few times recently. Scanned with clip and egr fault logged

With CO.0 stored and it was also chucking up 1.Def and 2.Def, i assumed the solenoid had s**t itself and performance was a bit flat. Id had issues with this egr before so treated it to a new pierburg oem for £50.

Fitted in ten mins

Stuck clip on , cleared fault codes and egr adaptives. Started engine, and to my discust eml was permanently lit with the same fault.

Back apart and the black earth wire has snapped at the egr connector.

De pinned, soldered a short length of wire onto the stub, crimped to existing wiring and covered with dual wall heatshrink.

Fixed. Probably would have been a free fix, but anyway its got a nice shiney egr and performance is back to intended.

Noticed drivers side front fog light was cracked on the blue dci, assume a stone done it on the motorway. Had the old ones off the trophy which are the same so ten min swap/free fix.

Took my compomotives down for refurb and collected them in it.

Collected. Tighter squeeze to get them in on the way back, i ended up ringing the mrs to come down and pick one rim up to save stacking/risking marking the faces.id already chucked all my work kit in the front passenger side in this pic lol.

Done loads of miles in the blue dci recently. All motorway stuff, loads of site visits to Bradford, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham and Sheffield. Done over 3k miles in 5 weeks taking it up to 156k. 67mpg all the time at normal motorway speeds 70mph. Consistently making money out of the 45p per mile fuel allowance.

It was starting to look seriously unloved so give it a clean up as weather was good.

Also have been checking the oil level on a weekly basis and it doesnt appear to be using a drop which is great.

Orange dci cleaned today and given a coat of gtechniq c2v3. Didnt bother doing the wheels as they are going in for refurb next month. Mrs is using it for daily/work as shes back in the office quite a bit.

Mot pre check on orange soon and get it ready. Need to do cambelt too as its overdue now, will get a kit ordered.

Drivers side outer cv on blue dci started clicking when turning approx 1000 miles ago. From previous experience they usually click forever on lock so was planning on ignoring it until it developed furthur.

Anyway done 280miles on Wednesday (Goole, Rotherham, Scunthorpe and return) and on the return leg of the journey near home, it started clicking on acceleration/slight lock. Cant moan as original shaft at 156k.

Rang up local motor factors to get a price on a shaft, and they had one in stock for £50, cheapo napa brand but im sure itll handle the diesel power.

Original shaft had at least 4mm of slack on the outer joint when checked so well worn.

Fitted on Thursday dinner time in 36mins and took the rear brake shoes up which took another ten mins, and good to go for next week which will be 500miles or so.

Updates

Orange dci is due its mot in a few days. Tyres were getting right down and one of the williams wheels on the back was like a 50 pence piece causing a wub wub noise on certain road surfaces. Id prepared in advance by buying another pair of wheels to refurb a couple of years ago so decided now is the time to get them done.

Checked all the wheels to see if true, and the front pair are straight, one rear has a slight buckle, and the o/s rear is pretty bad so decided to use the new pair as straight, which makes a good set of 4.

Loaded up in the blue clio

Collected, the place i use was quiet on the run up to xmas so got them turned round fast. Fitted with a set of ex ginetta pilotspoet 3's with loads of tread.

Give them a clean up and seal with collinite before fitting.

Fitted. Look a bit fresher, and the silver is brighter than the old finish so a bit of an improvement. Drives lovely, no more noise from the rear.

Also fitted another alpine stereo. The old alpine had broken somehow, it actually packed in for a bit and then just started working again but the sound quality had gone a bit on the piss.

Got this alpine for £15, its basically the same as the old one but has bluetooth so slight upgrade. Cheap and cheerful and sounds 100x better than old one.

Mot booked in for next week, ive pre checked it and not expecting it to fail, will see.

I used to use Romax all the time when Rob owned it (was it rob? Forget now ) it used to be best place round here but last couple of sets they done, were very stingy with the powder on the barrels and price seemed to be ramping up.

Ive been using Motorcool for the last few sets. Eddie who owns it, is a right character, always good banter. Finish is decent for the price, these were £220 the set. You can see a few imperfections in one as the wheel was heavily corroded, but take a good set in and the finish is good.

If you want concours finish the wheel specialist in Leeds is unreal. The sets i seen that they had refinished for a friend were flawless. Price is ramped up to suit, i believe he paid around £400 for a set of 15s.

Orange dci went straight through its mot today. Mot testers comments, clean for an old car. Had tracking done whilst there as it had gone out a bit on drivers side. Not sure if anybody else has the same.issues but feel like im forever getting the tracking done on the clios!

Another year of cheap motoring ahead.

Small update. Got a few free kitchen units to fit in my garage. Infact a few too many as 2 van loads turned up! So had a few runs to the tip in the orange dci today.

Im having stupid ideas again and fancy 172/182 widetrack on this. I have a pair of 60mm hubs off the trophy and a pair of lower arms, and cup inner tie rods etc.

I guess i only need an anti roll bar and a pair of driveshafts. The question is what driveshafts are needed? Will the longer shaft with intermediate bearing fit the k9k block? Also will the povo spec wings be ok with increased girth.

Blue clio has had a new pair of tyres up front. The yokohama blueearths were s**t only got 9k out of them, not helped with drivers side tyre tracking off.

Have replaced them with a pair of Michelin cross climates and had tracking reset. Its almost on 160k, ive got to go right down south this week with work so will service once thats done as its almost due as change oil every 8k.

If you go widetrack with hubs and so on.. you can use 172 shaft or 182 if your block has the holes for mounting the support for the half shaft bearing.

From my experience shafts at gearbox sife are all the same. I tried fitting non sport shaft on JC5 gearbox without problems.
The only thing changing from non sport to 172/182 (beside legth) are the splines on hub side.
Which in case its an easy thing to solve..
In the past I swapped the bearings and inner hubs on a non sport hub to make it work with sport shafts.

Haha I’ll be breaking mine soon so just shout if you need anything.
I have normal 172/182 shaft on the “wet” pass side, 172 cup (no centre bearing) on the driver side.
Abs bearing topic: it varies depending on what you have to start with. All I had to do was changing the rear abs sensors to 1.6/dci100 on mine to make the disc rear axle work.

Seriously, let me know, my black clio won’t go back on the road after the crash at cadwell, and I think the whole dci to widetrack conversion could be good for someone !

If you need some more info just ask mate. i did a swap and widetrack conversion some time ago... and I dit it all myself so I have clear all the parts and things to do.

Beware also the subframe. From non sport to 172, to 182 there is also a difference in wishbones holes and also hole for gearbox support.

Subframes are identical beside the differences I wrote.
Sport wishbones fits without problems. i fitted some 182 wishbones on a nonsport subframe once..

If you want full track width then you need another subframe or heavy modification.

For mine... i avoided sourcing another subframe, I welded closed wishbones tabs, redrilled new holes (cup spec) and welded some reinforcements (used pms repair washers) and its rock solid and super wide (also used adjustable powerflex)

Ha yeah had the garlands in forever, i think i automatically look round them now. They swing a bit when pressing on 😆

They caused a massive stir a couple of years ago at the mrs workplace when a higher tier manager tried to shame it health and safety wise on the corporate chat page taking a pic and posting it saying its dangerous and obscuring the view, which is prob 100% true. Massively backfired on him though as these things do as its not a work vehicle and he had to apologise publically. Was f**king hilarious.

Mine runs the dci subframe, looked identical to me side by side other than the fact I had to drill a hole for the 4th engine mount
