Cheers @Une_Baguette thats a good help. I was just winging it the other night and disconnecting things on a whim. Didnt even consider throttle pedal! Did see fault change when rail sensor was unplugged so poss that.

Currently been dying from man flu for a couple of days so not looked at it yet. Rail sensor has turned up today so will have a look at it over the weekend.

Updates.

Blue dci is running again. Plugged in the new fuel rail pressure sensor which cleared the df127 and live data showed correct readings with engine off. Also ac pressure registers 3.5bar again now the sensor is receiving correct voltage.

Changing the rail sensor looked to be easy and i was expecting it to be a 10 min job. I managed to remove the old sensor in situ which was easy enough but could not get the new one to start in the threads and couldnt even get the old one to go back in. I ended up unding the diesel pipes and taking the fuel rail off to do on the bench. No pics but rust had wicked up the threads in the fuel rail causing the first few threads to gall slightly on removal. I was quite suprised to see this as it had came out quite easy. The thread is not standard, looks like an thread or similar and you cant get any swarf in so retapping is a no go really. With this in mind i got the old sensor and got it started in the thread, working it forward and backwards which recut the leading threads letting the sensor wind in easy. Had to be careful keeping everything very clean as these delphi setups s**t themselves at any dirt ingress.

New sensor went straight in and refitted the rail/fuel lines. After an extended crank of the starter to prime the system it fired up sounding absolutely normal.

Logged rail pressure on a couple of starts and all good. Ive noticed with engine off, ign on the new rail sensor reads 0bar where the old sensor would linger between 12-30 bar for whatever reason (doubt this was correct as never any residual pressure in system) so might have been on its way for a while.

Anyway test drive went fine, goes normal no issues. Ive started it up a load of times and it runs much better, no low idle or surging on idle so do wonder if the rail sensor was contributing to all of this with iffy readings as never managed to log the fault with it been intermittent.

Orange clio has a full tank of diesel in so will be using that up before the blue one is back in daily use.

Very lucky mate. Stainless sensor in mild steel was not the best combo but was shocked when it recut the thread after some working forwards and backwards.

Updates.

Blue clio back in daily use. Its been running great, no starting issues and none of the low idle carry on, 100% confident that its sorted.

A few posts back i touched upon spinning the egr to essentially blank it off whilst eliminating things causing low idle. You can only get one bolt in the top and pikey one bolt to the underside of the egr when its 180deg out. I thought this would be ok/sealed but after looking oil had started to spray out of the top and bottom, not loads but not great either. This also highlighted the turbo was getting pretty tired and blowing oil out of the compressor side seal, which is not ideal on a diesel, if it suddenly got worse it could be a runaway situation. Id noted oil when cleaning egr and it looked like it was getting worse so time to change the turbo.

Experimental spaced out egr solenoid which did not work and put it into limp.

I got the turbo for free off a breaker kangoo when i first got the car and its done 90k in my use so its done well. I went through the turbo collection in the lockup and dug outa dci80 yellow plate turbo with no play in the shaft/no sign of oil on inlet or exhaust so deemed good enough. Decent weather and a spare few hours so set about changing it yesterday.

Old turbo off and new one on in 2 hours, replaced oil drain seal for new whilst on with it. Checked wastegate with mityvac and set at 1.1bar so all good. Smoke tested for leaks.

EGR put back to standard to eliminate leaks. Still leaks very slightly on smoke check but not bad so thats as good as it gets i guess, rest of pipework ok. Anyway test run and all good, performance good, done ten mile or so and removed egr to check for oil and all dry so id say thats job jobbed.

Dirty d back in one piece.

Now its back to good running order its upgrade time. The original wheels were in poor shape, lots of corrosion and needed a refurb as the bead area was in poor condition. Did consider refurb but if spending money might aswell get something different as not really keen on the originals. Have been looking for a while at various sets of wheels and had agreed to buy a set of comp mo5 but deal fell through at last minute.

Looking through fb marketplace i noticed lad i know was selling a set of mk1 clio 16v steel spare wheels. I dont mind the look of them and fired a message over, next thing im on a roadtrip to Lincoln last week to collect.

R26 on wheel collection duties.

1x set of et35 15x6.5j valver spares powdercoated in matt black. 2x new uniroyals & 2 knackered uniroyals. My current michelin crossclimates are around 4-5mm so got them swapped over off the original wheels and fitted today.

Much better than the corroded originals. Et36 also sits a bit better.

Stuck a bid in for a private reg JB03JON on ebay and ended up winning too so stuck that on.

Updates.

Blue dci running great. Has not missed a beat and around 198,500 miles now as had a few site visits at work.

When i repaired the xenons on the blue clio, i stripped the ns light down, and whilst it was apart i cleaned the dome of the xenon projector. It was covered in filth and looked milky like a cateract and simply needed a wipe over revealing a really clear projector, simple job as headlamp front was off. I didnt do the drivers side as i couldnt be bothered splitting the light and in use the light output was s**t in comparison, and quite obvious when driving at night.

Had a spare hour yesterday so whipped headlamp out to see if it was possible to remove the xenon dome without splitting the headlamp. Its not possible to remove it fully as access hole is too small, but i managed to rotate it 180 to be able to clean the front and the back of the projector..check out the filth causing crap light output and pattern and the clear projector where i rubbed the dirt.

Filthy.

Forgot to take a pic of it before refitting but its same as passenger side now and looks really clear/great light output. Highly recommended if your xenons are not great at night.

Cateract gone.

Also give it a wash as wanted to try out my new resin watsr filter. No drying needed and no water marks, well happy.

Update.

Been using the orange dci this week. Was sat there with half a tank of fuel and not moved for a few weeks so seemed sensible to get it used. Started up as normal no dramas, however when driving noted a bit of vibration/pulsing from o/s wheel when braking. Discs had a bit of rust on so give the brakes a high speed clean up. It mostly cleared but still noted a bit of rumbling fron higher speed braking.

Had a spare hour today so pulled wheel off the o/s to have a look. First thing i inspected were the discs and pads, pads moving fine and overall no issues as only renewed in December. Had the bar out checking for play in suspension components and noted bottom balljoint had quite a bit of play. Changed it for a new one i had in stock that @Krarl kindly donated a while back.

Clio life.

Bolts put up a bit of a fight so got the grinder on the case.

Done in an hr, no play again. Checked n/s and all good no play in any components so expected it to be resolved.

On test drive noted same issue from higher speeds, no difference. I get the feeling an abs ring may be cracked/on its way so will check that next.

Update.

Boot lock solenoid failed to commence on the orange dci. After several replacements in the past its a ten min job to swap.

When it failed last time i bought a chinese spec solenoid off ebay. Fitted that and remembered why i did not use it as the motor makes an awful noise. Looked at original to see if i could repair, and the gears were jammed as a rubber part had deteriorated stopping the mech from moving. Cleaned the rubber and old grease out, bit of silicone grease and working fine again.

Update.

Washed both dci's today, well overdue.

Blue dci is on 199199 miles currently, soon be 200thou.

Apart from that, nothing to report really just daily drivers doing reliable daily driving.

Orange dci update.

Used orange dci all last week. Had a couple of start up/conk out then start up ok on 2nd attempt chucking eml on briefly. Assumed fuel system issues and scanned with clip to diagnose.

Can clip diagnostics

A few faults stored but no fuel related codes. Digging a bit deeper reveals

DF023 Flywheel signal sensor circuit - 2 def tooth signal missing - crank sensor related

DF125 Main relay - 1 def relay cut too early so relay poss on its way

DF048 Fan - Be relay or wiring at a guess

DF037 Stop switch - 1 def coherence - fcuk knows, it done the immob red flashy a while back.

Deleted them and DF048 fan comes straight back, and fan does not trigger on actuator test. Open fusebox to look at relay and bit of corrosion/relay not fully inserted as top of fusebox knocks it when refitting as crap fit.

Corrosion visible.

Clean up the corrosion, fault clears and fan working on actuator test. Refitted fusebox carefully to ensure relay stays seated.

I then pulled the main/locking relay out and checked for corrosion. Was ok, so changed relay for a good used spare.

I then removed the crank sensor to have a look to see if end was covered in s**t. Noted the end has rotted to a point - that is clearly the issue. Actually resistance checked ok.

Id say thats about knackered.

I briefly cleaned and refitted this as no spares and it did not fail to start again so prob could have limped on a bit. Ordered a new aftermarket sensor and it arrived and fitted today in ten mins.

Super easy to change with long 1/4drive extension.

Fired up straight away and faster than usual. Logged fuel pressure on clip and flys up to over 230bar so assume still OK. No fault codes returned since so id say its job done.

Blue clio update.

Running absolutely fine. Went to Doorslammers/Santa pod in it last weekend 450ish miles, 69.3mpg. Its getting close to the 200k now.

214 miles to go.

@Martin_172 kindly donated some van spares for it, rear trims, spare window blanks and floor panel. I was missing the upper rear plastic trims and had cut down car trims which didnt fit great but were passable with carpet bridging the gap. With the vans being rare ish id not seen another set for sale.

Had a spare hour today so stuck them on. Looks much better with it all fitted and no gaps.

Ive got a week or so in the big smoke coming up with work so should see 200thou soon.
