Update on the car;

he was out in it when I arrived at the garage, so I went back 10 minutes later.

He says he fixed the problem by doing something with the dephaser, possibly moving it I think he said and it's now running perfect, it's fast as f**k and he was giving it some welly in his words apparently no noise from the dephaser or anything, which proves that wasn't the problem. However there's now another Spanner in the works as when I walked in the car was going up on the ramps again and it's now got an oil leak, he reckons it'll definitely be done and fully sorted tomorrow.

Hmmm. I'd still take it to a specialist the day after you get it back to check the timing!

Oil leak is probably from the cam seals not being replaced or fitted the wrong one in the wrong side.

Did he replace the crank bolt and pulley fixings after he loosened them off?

No I don't, knowing my luck he'll have been caught doing 70 in a 30 zone, probably say I was driving anarl.

He mentioned the cam seals actually when he was trying to explain what it might have been, so fingers crossed it's nothing major and it's sorted tomorrow

I suspect he has reused the cam seals after retiming it. they are impoissible to remove without damaging unless you damage or remove rocker cover.
a couple of new ones wil solve that, hence the extra day.

I think the idea of the dephaser in some way causing one of the timing tools not to fit is top quality nonsense, I just can't see a way it could happen. If it's the camshaft locking tool that wont fit, it's because the timing is out (or in my case some garage had mangled the slots in the camshalfts while with the previous owner) or if it's the pully locking tool that wont fit, it's because it's either just the wrong tool, or it's the right tool but without the MOT1509 01(part number 0000150901) extra long cog and spacer adaptor that adapts the tool for the f4r engines (I suspect this could be why it wont fit).

If you mean came end caps, then yes they should be. (there are other cam seals that are only exposed when the rocker cover is removed).
They are only about £7 for genuine ones, and non renault kits come with them by default.

They have to be done on a cambelt change if you do it correctly. Dan would've done them.

You'll struggle to find anywhere that will let you supply the parts to be honest.

Hours wise, maybe 4 - 5?

Dan done belt dephaser waterpump and clutch then shipped engine to me, my garage wouldn't do belt, a lot off my mind knowing he done it.

Swr will fit timing kit dephaser and aux belt for 480 with parts supplied

I don't think the timing belt ever fails its more the tensioner or bolts and the aux belt is the same it just gets shredded when tensior fails, think how reliable the fr engines would be if people only paid specialist were used and within the correct time frames

My previous megane had the cambelt fail and leave the aux untouched.
