My Nissan 200sx S14a **Jap Crap Content**

Been just over a year now, almost a year since I washed the c**t and my heart sank at the state of the paint.

Well, a fellow SX owner who lives literally 2 miles from me and happens to be a spray painter made me an offer I couldn't refuse, so I took him up on it.

Here's some pictures I took when I went round to strip mirrors and handles off and raise it yesterday...

Bonnet badge holes smoothed out.

Hiding my moment of rage.

He also took some WIP pictures that I'll post when I get them, and it's all finished, but I need to wash it before I unveil the shine. Needless to say, I'm well and truly back in love with the car now, despite it's horrendous handling issues. Still a bit to do, we're going to do something with the rear bumper, and the spats need fitting.

Thanks Daniel. Got so much to do still though.

I keep thinking about selling it, then I'll have a thrash in it, popping and banging, rear end trying to snap round on me, and it all makes sense again.

I just need to find somewhere I can take it off the road and defeat the rust before it gets really bad. Then I have all sorts of ideas in my head, but time will tell which will come into fruition.

Same scenario as me with my valver. My garage at home isn't big enough and i've moved out of my unit at work so i've got nowhere to finish it. I keep thinking about selling it and buying something already done but then I look at the pictures of it and I start all over again. I fcuking hate cars.

You're not kidding. I'm supposed to be buying an Evo this weekend and I just know I wont be able to leave it alone.

Its like an illness.

Sadly this is nothing thsat impressive. It is a lovely car though, ex show car and minty mint throughout. Its a white IV.

Got some WIP pictures. Unfortunately, there's no spray booth pictures as his phone died.

So bonnet...

Gosh, been 2 months nearly since I updated. Well, not had a lot of time for the car with being on outage at work, but it's pretty much over now! Excuse the iphone snaps, didn't realise the DSLR battery was dead.

Did a few little bits to keep me occupied. First up, I got something sent in from Japan. A Kouki grill. I didn't like how it sat at first but it's really grown on me.

712e9e39.jpg

Then I got my rear bumper modified by the same lad who painted the car. It's had the reflector/fog removed, and is colour coded and kind of smoothed in. The fog light is now in the driver's side reverse lamp. Vast improvement.

Not much left exterior wise now. A smaller plate, the spats, the 18" Regas, possibly modified rear lights and de-chromed headlights, maybe a tad lower too.

On the sidelines I'm working on polybushing & building up the back end. So there's a blasted/painted and bushed subframe in the garage. I've all the polybushes for the hub uprights, which I'm modifying some R33 GTS-T HICAS ones into non-HICAS. I've also got these puppies to go in the lower rear arms.

Nagisa Auto rear roll centre correction ball joints, fresh from RHDJapan. Love Jap parcels lol.

cb4a95b6.jpg

Also got myself a spare VLSD. It's going to be ripped apart, and I've got this Kaaz 1.5 way LSD to drop in it.

32152295.jpg

So once I get some holiday time off, I'll build it all up and get it fitted. Also debating whether to drop the fuel tank at the same time and protect all that part of the chassis.

There is probably going to be a good engine related update soon too, watch this space.

It's just a bevel gearbox at the end of the day, I'm well versed in adjusting them thanks to my profession ;) I'll be making sure the backlash, runout and contact patch are acceptable. I'm not just dropping it in like half the people who fit them. As for bearing clearances, there's nothing to really measure on a taper roller bearing dude. It's totally different to a journal bearing like you'd find in the engine.

Yeah I know, like i said, the DSLR is flat and let's face it, the iPhone camera sucks.

Cheers Luke and Dweeb.

Love it Gaz, updated on your paint thread aswell. Keep up the good work. Such a transformation mate.

I take back what I said about it lying in bits on your drive..

Cheers guys.

Some small updates...

Smaller front plate is on, haven't took a picture!

Did this though. Fitted some 330mm front discs, as I felt the 296mms were a bit lacking on a long thrash. I've kept the 296mm discs for winter though, as they fit under 16" Wheels.

So, they're DB-Power's brackets and discs. Could have done this myself seeing them, but why go through all the hassle of finding discs in the right offset, modifying the PCD (as nothing with a 114.3mm PCD is 330mm and the right offset it would seem) and making up the brackets when somebody else has already done the hard work?

So brackets on...

Oh, finally go the right spacers after god knows how long, 3-4 months! So they went on the front after the discs (30mm spacers), then the wheels did too. Fill the wheels much betterl...

Quite tight under there now mind, seeing as these 17s are now promoted to track wheels, I couldn't go any bigger...

Also, got these done yesterday. Tried getting the 4 ball joints out in a vice (yes 4, those are Hicas hub uprights from a skyline), I failed. Ended up paying to get them and the bushes pressed out, was less hassle, rather than sneaking back into work on my holidays and doing it.

Only problem is, turns out Driftworks bushes aren't up to much, which I didn't search before buying them. So this will hold up progress for the time being, until I decide what to do. So much for thinking bushes would fit properly eh?

Bit of an update, which is no mean feat now I'm relegated to my phone.

Right, by now, I should have had my new subframe built up, polybushed and the kaaz 1.5 way fitted. In reality, the diff is half stripped, and the lower arm bushes are driving me mad. So that hasn't happened.

b6b94b79.jpg

Not impressed with the Driftworks bushes, just can't stop them from doing that.

In other news, I fitted some H-Dev 4300k HIDs...

Need some LED bulbs that aren't so bright White to match them.

I also bought this.
0dfd09be.jpg

An SR20DET from an S15. 30,000km on it, fitted with Tomei Cams and pulleys, Rocker arm stoppers, Metal headgasket, and probably uprated valve springs. It'll be getting some uprated headstuds, forged and maybe some other bits in the future.

So I got up today and thought I'd finally fit my new manifold and fix some small coolant leaks.

Got all this and the crap in the way off this morning...
549f9471.jpg

Knocked up some gaskets to hopefully stop my small leaks on the thermostat housing and coolant outlet...
acb2ed51.jpg

481eb71e.jpg

Ripped the turbo assembly apart, new downpipe gasket and downpipe refitted to it.

9f81060c.jpg

Then went to fit the manifold. And the studs have been drilled and tapped slightly too large...
46a87331.jpg

Tried drilling out the turbo flange, and ruined 3 decent drill bits. Good job work paid for them. So now I'm at a loss for the time being unless I refit my old manifold. That is something I don't want to do, as I'd want the flanges skimming for piece of mind. No car = no skimming. You can see the predicament. Bloody cars!

lol was gonna say hammer lol, your thermo... you thought about getting the faces skimmed?? might be warped?? i snapped one in half by pinching the corner of the stat under the edge and i tightened it down but never had any issues with leaking like you lol!

on my way in a min to take the rx7 for a mot :D

TBH, the leak had pretty much stopped there, but the stat was playing up so put another in. The gaskets are 1mm thick, better than the sealant I have to hand.

I'm probably going to step into the 30series of turbo eventually.

Anyway, It lives!

Hammering the studs level got the manifold to fit. Soon got that all dropped in.

68d7f62c.jpg

Cracked on getting it all together and fitted a different decat, and made up a sturdier mount for the downpipe. Gained a good 2-3" of ground clearance now the system is fairly droop free.

14318544.jpg

In other news, I think my front ball joints are dying. No big issue, they were on the list to replace anyway.

All ready for a jaunt in the hills on Saturday now.
