Odyssey ph1 172 pure track car. No tax discs here........

Looking good mate.

Forgive me if you've said already but are you intending to do any MSA sanctioned events in this?

On the steering rack/column situation, I perhaps didnt explain exactly what I was on about, when I said the rack movement, I didnt mean the rack or column physically moving in its moutings, I simply meant the relationship between the input you provide by turning the steering wheel and how much the rack extends by doing so.
A UJ operating at any angle will have a fast then a slow phase, the more misalignment you put the UJ under the more pronounced this effect becomes, in effect it's like having a variable ratio steering rack.

I'm not intending to do any event's as yet, just pleasure.

I understand a little more what you mean. So at specific points on turning it can become faster or slower which obviously upsets the steering and is more to the point dangerous. I will have another look tomorrow. My only consolation is I have quite a range of movement in the column so if need be I can move it upward to hopefully overcome any problems if they do occur.

Ah I didn't realise that. Best bet will be a motorsport shop then I would presume. Mine don't need to meet regs for now :)

What series are you planning on racing in Sonny?

  ph1 172
Also at the spray shop on Saturday was this project.

Can anyone guess what it is? A passenger ride in my car when done to the fully correct answer ;)

Yes sir! And I cannot tell you how much I WANT that shell! It's from the 1999 championship. The cage makes mine look completely inadequate

Im just a genius really arnet I? sorry for ruining the fun though as its a given i was going out in your car when its done ha

IMO it does look awesome, always thought something 5 door'd and caged would look wrong.

Today I have plumbed the brakes in. Bias valve in passenger side of the bulkhead.

A job that I hated and IMO is not neat enough but it just got to the point where, that'll do. But functional.

Sorted the door release handles and door cards so will finish them off tomorrow and get some pics up.

Engine and box will be going in tomorrow. I think this engine crane will suffice...

I hate making brake lines!

Out of interest why haven't you put the bias valve within reach of driving position for adjustment on the fly?

  ph1 172
If it is within reach of the driver it then breaches race regs if ever I decided to go racing. So it's in a random place because I didn't want to run lines through the car.

I opted to run fuel and brake lines through the car to protect them from inevitable excursions through gravel traps and the like ;)

Cheers chaps:) Once again another day has flown by and I haven't achieved everything that I wanted to. (Maybe I am setting my sights a little high..Or I'm working far too slow) Today the engine and gearbox went in, along with the exhaust manifold, suspension, door card, spoiler and cleaned and few bits and prepped others ready to go on. Finally starting to look a little bit like a car.

I was going to do this but despite the spec of mine, atm it isn't an out and out race car so our trip to the ring will mean carrying item's in the car and a passenger so I thought maybe it could get damaged quite easily.

I can relate to that!!

On the brake lines, thats a fair comment, easy enough to re-route later if you decide, but as long as they're tucked up out the way they should be ok under the car.

just had a good look through this thread as i have never come across it before but after seeing the car today i thought i'd have a look for one and a good read, hope it all goes to plan

  ph1 172
Sorry Dan, didn't see your post. Haven't had time for updates been working hard :)

Should be on the road within 4 weeks as of today

  ph1 172
Coming together nicely Rhys. When is its first outing?

First proper outing will be the Nurburgring at the end of May! Car will have hopefully 2 weeks of road testing before we go

Rhys that was what i was talking about last night when i text you! No worries about no update, I undertstand how busy you are! That your trailer? Also shouldve painted the inlets ;)

Yep that's ours :)
The inlets were going to be painted wrinkle black but I ran out of time so stuck them in the dishwasher and tbh they look alright in the flesh. The blue inlet hose is only temporary.

Thanks mate :) I got a pair of Motordrive pro 2 at a very good price new. They fit tight like your Revos. The flywheel is my favourite piece of kit on the whole car! Weighs so much less than standard. I got it from a chap called Pete but can't remember his company. I have his number if you want one. They are £250 and billet steel. It was Neil Roper that put me onto him as he is a good friend of his.
