Looks like mechatronic unit going off the symptoms, £1200 or so job at VW without a contribution because going off the forums, is a known fault.

If somebody puts £9000 in my hand they can take it tomorrow.

I worked for MBUK for 10 years at their defleet centre and often saw costs at 13k plus for running and maintaining a C63 for a year.

I'd do some in depth research before taking the plunge.

The research that I have done on C63's shows that there are no major issues with the car, except for head bolt issues on some early C63's, but I read that MB contributed to the cost of the repair.. What did you find that was going wrong? Definitely interested to hear.

Otherwise all I found was petrol/brakes/tyres/insurance being a major cost

Sorry to hear about the DGS, 2 things though.

1. ECU-Testing will fix the mechatronic for £350: http://www.ecutesting.com/vw_and_audi_dsg_gearbox_ecu.html you just need to get your local specialist to pull it out/re-fit it for you. R32oc will suggest who to use no doubt.
2. You bought it from a dealer slightly less than 6 months ago iirc, if you dont have warranty, you do have the sale of goods act.

I bought the car on the 23rd of March, meaning today is 6months. Is there any mileage in getting in contact with the dealer and seeing what he has to say?

Cheers dave that's very useful. Just got in contact with the dealer who says I had 3 months and isn't really interested in what else I've got to say. Complete ballache.

Go to CAB and speak to them. They're useless but they'll help persuade the garage.

I've just rung VW to tell them to log todays date of booking if they haven't already. Being that today's date is bang on 6 months and it broke last night, said dealer is clearly going to do his best to negate any responsibility.

This has literally just happened to my mate and his ED30.

Luckily LandRover where he got the car from last month, are footing the bill.

£1500 for the parts plus a lot of labour they said!

Yup. Still alot of money but not the end of the world I suppose. I also asked VW to health check the car while it was there and everything has come back perfect, which is some good documentation to help with the sale.

VW wanted £85 for an oil filter ffs.

Well after 5 weeks without it, some serious f*cking about and alot of money spent, I finally have the car back. Doesn't feel any different than before it went bang which is seriously annoying.

Currently deciding whether to run it over winter and then sell, or put it up for sale now.

Faux by fours will go up in value over the winter months, RWD performance saloons will no doubt drop (or at least demand for them will). I'd sell and buy around about now.

Keep thinking the same about the Panzer over a Z4MC. But then I go out in a friend's classic (soft top) and realise Winter driving with the roof down is the only way to roll. In your case "Riding through the snow, with a full lock slide going on, la la la la laaaa, la la la la laaaaaa".

Mine was very good in the snow, although even with the Haldex Controller in race, i found that you had to be really brutal to do doughnuts/drift, would always understeer quite a bit before getting sideways.
