santa pod qtr mile times

Any of you guys at the pod on sunday?

I saw one clio with the club sticker in (red 16v) and hung around for a bit but nobody seemed to obviously own it.

There was a good turn out of gtts but only a handful of clios. I didnt see any other cups or 172s on the strip. I was hoping for a friendly duel.

I managed a best of 15.06 from 4 runs but a bit disappointed not to get below 15 secs.

What are the best times for std 172/cups? I know my book says 14.8 and im sure thats achievable with a decent start.

I got a 15.03 a couple of weeks ago, there was about 5 cups there on that day!!!
Agian, i struggled to get a good launch.

Mat.

It was either spining the wheels too much or over slippin clutch or not reactin quick enough. I think a 14.5 is possible in a cup. If I took my best reaction time against my best overall run then thats about what id have got.

I suppose the good thing is that you dont shaft your clutch as quick in a fwd car because you cant just drop it like in a scooby/evo. And thats why scoobies are quicker over qtr/60 than a cup when in the real world theyre slower. (std scoobies)

Had a very close defeat to a mk1 golf with a tt engine. Nothing in it at all surprisingly...

  mk2 172

possibly, you should be in 14s with that et, sounds like your loosing time on gear changes cos 93 mph is gud

I think it was my reactions off the start that lost it, that run was about 1 sec, best was 0.5s.

dont question my changes, im a veteran!:)

Main thing is, I didnt see any faster CTRs, the ones i saw were doin 15.3-16 typically. could have missed them though if someone knows better...

Cooper s did a 15.3, not sure if std.

pugboy

the reaction time is not included in your time for the 1/4 only makes a difference if you are racing someone in the other lane

Didnt know that runner bean, i was a quarter mile virgin until sunday.

I stand corrected.

So perhaps 14.8 is a realistic time.

Matthew/runner bean.

That makes more sense cause I had wondered why I had lost by half a car length but it was half a second difference on the times.

So Im crap at changes then...:(

Pug boy!

If it was a napples red valver with tints it was me

i was up the other end helping my mate with the silver beatle

Would be very suprised to see a standard Cup running 14.5 seconds 1/4 mile. It looks like 14.8/14.9 on an exceptional run is more like it with 15.0/15.1 normally. Still, under 15 seconds is very good....

I got a couple of 15.1s and a 15.2 in my cup a couple of weeks ago (the day mat went) and again my starts were not good. First time 1/4 miling. My speeds over the line were 94.25 93.88 92.17

Ive only been 1/4 miling once. Really enjoyed it but no matter how hard I concentrated, I kept either spinning up or bogging down on the line . 15.6 was my best in the 172. Cack!

Pugboy your reaction time doesnt affect the 1/4 mile time printed on the slip!

15.9 was my best time. But that was sh*t loads of wheel spin. I rekon 15.5 with a good start.

Its funny when you look at 1/4 mile times a cup is only 0.3 - 0.6 seconds to quicker than a 16v in a striaght line!! And a 172 is slower than a cup!!

Makes you think there aint much difference!

Whats a V6 1/4 mile time??

aaronc on the road the cup/ good 172 will be noticeably quicker than a 16 valve, ive seen valvers struggle to get below 16.6 secs 1/4 mile and also their terminal times are poor.

  ExigeV6|Q5|DS3|Fiat

16.6? well you saw some shagged valvers mate, my terminnal speed was about 88-91mph. just like i must have obviously raced a shagged 172 lol

My old Primera SRi (modded) ran 15.8 1/4 mile and then I added an exhaust and cams so say 15.6 after that, now when I raced Teadys 172 he would totally and utter shaft my Primera a new ring.

From what Ive seen (and Ive seen a lot of Clios quarter mile) I cant think of any valver without serious mods that will run anything substantially below 16 seconds. 15.8s and 15.9s are even pushing it really. Terminal speeds around75-80mph usually...Aaron are you saying you did a 15.9 @88 mph?

just for those who say a standard elise is slower than a cup (from the other thread) i was there 2 weeks ago and a standard one did it in 14.3 ;-p

so not only do they coner 86.7 times faster they wip clio cups in the 1/4 mile too lol

MrDemon,

Thats purley down to traction, not grunt!!

I dont think anyone was disputing that the elise would shade it off the line!

???? i dont remember i blew away 172s......???? who said that?

Night.Icon - Yes it was naples red, and a very tidy example, shame we never had a chat/race, catch you next time.

Rhys - Youre right, I only suggested 14.5 cause I had (wrongly) thought the clock started with the green light.

Slugger - Pretty consistent times there, well have to have a head to head.

Red 16 - See answer to Rhys.

Mr Demon - Traction and rear wheel drive are the difference. Youre pi&&ed cause you paid big bucks for a few bits of aluminium glued together and a few old peugeot switches, covered with a bit of moulded plastic and an old british leyland lump. ;) Nice car though!

  CTR EK9 turbo
