Yeah. Integration of content isn’t unique. I said in the beginning there are various services doing this. Even to the extent of a roku TV, Netflix button etc.

Like all of these changes. It’s not just one company but a move several players will make in the market. It will come down to who does it best.

All of the services above really lack when it comes to live TV. Live and recorded live TV still makes up a bit part. So if you want to confuse customers with switching between services and missing out on half their viewing recommendations crack on.

I find it laughable that switching to a recorded freeview box and a fire stick is even compared to this to be honest.

For sure, the live TV does seem to be the extra offering here. Given that I don’t watch live TV (unless I’ve sub’d Sky Sports on NOW for a specific event) I’m clearly not the target demographic here. Perhaps that’s why I’m struggling to see the point.

I’ll have a nosey about YouTube for reviews when they start to appear. Get a better idea of what it’s all about.

I think the point is to make it really good spec and simple. 99% of people couldn’t care less about all the jargon that TV manufacturers use to justify you buying a new TV.

Don’t see a fire stick every doing the full live TV stuff. But you could use NOW as a lite version.

No absolutely not what they are offering at all.

You need at least one Sky Glass TV.

You can then activate other TVs for multi screen viewing using “pucks”. But at least one TV needs to be a new Sky Glass one.

What terrible journalism. Seems simple concept for people to just “kick back”.

But Sky’s subscriptions / pricing models are too confusing. Ok then. I think we have all over estimated the intelligence of general public if they can’t deal with picking a small, medium and large TV size. [emoji24]

As a general comment. I hate how the sports channels are bundled. I want to watch the golf. That’s it. I don’t want to pay for football, racing, F1 and whatever else just to watch the golf. Meh.

They haven't yet provided me with a fully functioning Sky Q box, sod then putting it in a TV that won't be as good as a top end calibrated unit.

If they fix the issues I have now I'd consider it but the reliance on broadband puts me off, I like the fact I can still watch TV if I lose connection.

Yes. You have to buy the TV for this service.

They will continue to sell sky Q for people that don’t want to buy a new TV.

Will you? J think the point is there are many many services people use just now. Yes you have to buy sky when you purchase the TV. Don’t think the TV is redundant if you ever leave sky though. Could be wrong but not the way it’s been explained to me.

Surely one of the biggest parts of it is the fact you're doing away with the dish? There's a massive chunk of the population who rent and perhaps can't get a dish installed. Or live in flats, and don't have a dish. I'd bet a lot of these people wouldn't also see the appeal of being able to have everything in one rather than having to buy a TV, soundbar, whatever else and then get it all working with each other.

Also, for people who aren't massively tech savvy but like to have the latest tech, how often do they upgrade their TV's? Every 3-4 years? Certainly takes the hassle out of buying a new one if you can get it in your sky package.

Saying that, I would never buy into it. Doesn't appeal to me at all, I think it looks pretty terrible and it won't be the best tech out there at the time. It'll be good, but not the best. But I can absolutely see why it would and will appeal to a lot of people out there.

I'd disagree that the pace of change of technology has never been faster when it comes to TVs.

We bought our Samsung smart TV in 2012 and it's still going strong today with all the usual streaming apps available and pretty great picture quality. We've just bought a new Philips / Android TV and whilst the picture is marginally better (HDR & 4K), the jump up from our old Samsung is nowhere near the jump to that from our previous Full HD set, and absolutely nothing like the jump to our first ever HD / LCD set.

And in comparison to what you've described, it feels like Android TV does everything glass does anyway as the home page presents content from all of the streaming services and is voice searchable etc.

I think everyone would fully get it, if it were an internet connected set too box / dongle / app for smart TV.

But, a hard product with limited portability, in a market that demands portability, seems wide of the mark.

It’s obvious what Sky want to do, which is lock you into the TV as part of a wider subscription, and treat the TV as a ‘money box’.

I didn't know we had a Sky employee on here, I have questions!
I'm quite keen on the idea of this, but I'm also fully paid up member of the Sky fan club... however I'm a shift worker and don't quite get the idea of not being able to 'record' live sport anymore and having to stream it. So if I've recorded the F1 on a Sunday and my shift pattern is crap I might not watch the full race until the Thursday, so will I still be able to stream the live coverage then? Or would I only have the option of some edited highlight package? What about a week old premiership match? In the same vein how long would things be streamable for, I've still not watched season 3 of Westworld (I don't think I'm missing much) but it's remained in my recorded programs for when I next get Covid/Flu/Zombie Plague and have the time to binge watch it. I know I'm probably in a minority but I was talking to colleagues about this and they had similar concerns about recording live golf for watching much later.

Also it's likely that the 'puck' would become my main way of accessing TV because it would be in the snug where as the Sky Glass would be in the living room, so I was trying to find out about the functionality and performance of the puck, but all the reviews are just for the TV, so does the puck have the same as the TV?

The only downside I can see with this is putting all our TV eggs in a broadband basket, having the dish gives a certain amount of flexibility if BT breaks something.

It still has all the functionality of SkyQ. It’s streaming TV that will store your recordings “in the cloud” like everything these days. So might be even better in your situation.

You could record the F1 as per with SkyQ. But let’s say you wanted to watch the rest of the race on the go. You can log in to Sky Go and watch the rest of your recording. (Without having to find the right on demand replay / highlights). Same for anything you record using this.

The TV functionality sounds like it will work really well... Just about the puck, will it output 4k/HDR/UHD (what ever you call it) and atmos via my AV box and speakers? The 'step' you mention is what I was concerned about, is there a spec list for the puck anywhere as I really can't find details.

Yes it comes with a wall mount or a stand. You do have to arrange to get the wall

Thank you for replying. I should be able to manage that. I’m in the 7 year bracket and sky are sorting out 8 and longer customers at the moment. I hope they bring back bookmarking of programs too!!

This is so true. We still use our Samsung set purchased in 2012. Admittedly the smart functions have limitations but it’s attached to an Apple TV so use that. It also looks as good today as anything new on the market!

TV with sky built in. So if you already have sky Q you hand that back and get sky glass.

You get pucks for the multi screen functionality. Essentially enables any TV to have the sky glass interface. I don’t think it’s limited to 2 pucks. But not sure.

As for recordings. No you don’t have recordings as such. You have a “playlist” and add programmes to that (live or streamed). The live playlist additions are not recordings but links to a central source for that stream. Complicated but it works quite well. This playlist is common across your main Sky Glass screen and other Pucks.

You need to buy one of the three TVs. The is the “main TV”. But you can add to the playlist from any device.
