EGRs are cancer, my 335d was the same and that'd only done 55k!

On the VWG hate train - I found out this week that mine has a water cooled ALTERNATOR. Jesus wept.

I love their ambition but it's honestly like the German brands have a look at what works well, then complicate it.

Finally, the dreadful OEM wheels are gone. Collected a set of Ultraleggeras a couple of weeks back.

Fucked the Up! GTI off after 5 months. Took a bit of an L but not as bad as you might think, between mine being delivered and now they’ve stopped production so that probably helped. That and I’d only done about 1800 miles!

Replacement is this.

I had a MK7.5 GTI on lease back in 2017-19. Adored it and should’ve bought it off VWFS.

Righted that wrong and got this. Manual, Performance model.

Instantly feels like I never left. They’re so bloody good it’s unbelievable. Keeper.

Ive got a rusty Mk5 GT Tdi.
Had it 18 months originally as a runaround.View attachment 1634924
Rusty wings, rusty sills, rusty boot, but it was remapped and had a lot of other new bits in the last 3 years like starter, battery, alternator etc. I had to get the belts done though as it looked like it was going to snap.

Last year me and my mate decided it would be a fun track car so the decision was made to break and sell off our Hyundai project and build this instead.
Money from the sales got us some good bits to go with the seats and belts etc that we kept.
Egr, egr cooler and aircon removed. Ramair filter kit fitted
20221012_121713.jpg

Interior pretty much stripped from the front seats backwards. Kept doorcards, dash etc as its still on the road. Bucket seats and harnesses fitted, new steering wheel.
20221019_172231.jpg

Found some new old stock Raceland coilovers cheap, so made some sleeves in work and fitted those
20221021_165348.jpg

Also got some adjustable droplinks.
Chopped the turret tops and fitted Compbrake adjustable topmounts
20221101_161237.jpg

Stud conversion for easier wheel swops
20221101_171429.jpg

Cut off the old shite and welded new sills on both sides
20221115_213323.jpg

Picked up some Audi A6 Allroad alloys as they have a wider offset and fitted them with Michelin rally tyres
20221121_105347.jpg

Took it to Oulton Park in december and we had loads of fun
IMG-20221205-WA0011.jpg

Will be making a new exhaust next, fitting new engine mounts and replacing the rack and road ends and probably bottom arms to freshen it up.
Might do one of the rallydays at Anglesey for a laugh too

Those standard OEM wheels are so s**t. But other than that, nice motors 👍🏻
Yeah Im not a fan, never have been, there are worse wheels but these are pretty awful.
19" Pretorias will sort that
Na, dont want to go bigger.

Wasnt clicking for me. After spending loads on wheels, tyres, suspension, it still wasnt quite right. I've always missed my 7.5 GTI so ended up getting a nice low mileage one!

That dealer in Reading has my Up! GTI for sale now if anyone cares.

Had our Audi in our local specialists to check for an oil leak it’s got at the moment.

This is what they have come back with.

The car is only worth about £4K+ and now in a not sure what to do position?

Ignoring the service at the bottom which I can easily do myself I’m a bit snookered with the rest of it.

You need a price from an independent garage don’t you.
I certainly need a second opinion from another independent garage, it’s finding one that’s trustworthy that’s the issue. So any recommendations for somewhere east Manchester would be appreciated?

anyone swapped a micro switch in a VW key before. The unlock button has stopped working on our key.

Wondering how hard it is and if I’ll end up just ruining the key. Or maybe I should just pay the £1million that VW will want for a new programmed key

This is the key type in question

I’ve replaced a couple and if it’s soldered in like most is quite simple if you have a steady hand and a soldering iron. Definately worth a go as they are only a few quid.

Anyone had any experience of an A7?

A mate has offered me his for 8.5k and a spare set of wheels. Seems like the right time to move the Megane on and get a better daily

Aye that's the bit that puts me off. The 7 speed box is cack for mechatronic issues and likely to bleed me dry one day
Can't remember if the ZF was 7 or 8 speed, but I think that was only on the BiTurbo, and if I remember correctly, that was the 'trouble free' one.

Update to this, got a local garage to take the turbo off so I could take it up to a specialist who fitted a new cartridge for a fraction of the cost of a new turbo. Garage refitted and did an oil change. All in it cost about a grand which didn’t seem to bad as it looked like a c**t of a job to do without a ramp.

I was back over at Awesome last Friday for a couple of bits:
Interim service
Powerflex dogbone insert
Racingline OEM+ ECU & TCU remap

I went for the red insert which is the softest available, it's actually made for the GTD I believe. There's quite a bit of vibration at idle and a lot more again when reverse is selected, but it should ease down once I've put some miles on. Otherwise it'll be coming out:ROFLMAO:

The map is superb, can't really fault it at all. Drivability is much improved, power delivery is smooth and the gearbox is a lot less lazy.

Before 256/288 | After 318/347 - A bit more than anticipated to be honest.

Got one of these for Father’s Day. Wireless Apple CarPlay is seamless now as it was pissing me off plugging phone in every trip.

I got similar recently...such a game changer.
Only thing is my phone gets hot whilst using it wirelessly (android auto)

I've had my eye on this lovely Audi S2 on collecting cars, it's already too expensive (by the time you add VAT and fees anyway), plus I need to save money not spend it on a car. However, has anyone owned an S2 and are they as awesome as I imagine a 5 cylinder turbo car would be?
I love how it looks, even in a relatively boring colour.

I don't know a lot about them to be honest, tried to find some decent buyer's guides or a decent YouTube video of someone reviewing a standard one, but not much out there, seem to be massively overshadowed by the RS2.
B3 Audi 80 Coupe’s were both FWD and quattro.
I thought that one would be a B4?

I get confused with Audi model numbers to be honest they are ambiguous so could be a B4.
