My right grip has two massive splits in it now and the top of the wheel is totally melted.

I'd say it worth a shot. Considering even newer clio's have the same problem.

Glad someone agrees! I mean the people who have bought their cars brand new and it's happening, it's not on. I don't know of any other interior that does that!

Last car I know that had a VERY bad interior fault was the series 1 rs turbo dash. Cracked like a biatch!

Give it a go if you like but i have already done this and so have a few other during the life of this thread, dont think anyone ever heard anything back from them, i know i didnt.

I know this thread is dead but...
I dropped my missus of at work yesterday morning at 9:30 then went home, steering wheel still in same condition, top of wheel melted and the right thumb grip split about 1inch but super glued back together and holding well. It was a warm day, about 18 degrees, i left the house at 14:30 to find the right thumb grip had totally exploded, a section on the front had completely fell off about 1 inch wide by 3 inch long and the whole back of the thing was hanging off and had also split in a new section. I have now super glued it all back together but it looks really crap.
So just to sum up after the car sitting in direct sun, 18 degrees, by its self, with nobody inside the car, for approx 7hrs the thumb grip that was in the sun light had burst open and fell to bits, not just a little split but totally fell to bits. And Reno say it has nothing to do with heat melting the steering wheels!!!!!

What number are you on now? My clio thumb grips fell to bits when we had the hot spell a month ago.
54 V6 Right thumb grip completely dead, left grip coming off and split. melting wheel on right side!

Doubt anyone is even trying to keep this up to date but mines the same - 04 182 Sport - right thumb grip destroyed and "leather" round top of wheel melting!

Its the heat generated from your hands on the wheel that causes it to melt. Mine has finger prints melted into it ffs !

at least ranault could sell the thumb grips separately and we'll deal with the melting stuff (clean it, re-trim, etc)

Right, i have been in contact with renault customer services and have been advised by them to get a definate number of those affected by this problem. They have already been notified and have a number of complaints logged regarding this problem, but didnt think the issue would be of this scale and so have agreed to try and resolve it. They say that when a decision is made regarding this issue they may require contact details of those affected, to inform them of a solution or prevention, so i should start collecting them now so when the time comes i have as many members contact details as possible. Hopefully this will speed up the whole process.
I have spoken to both revels and griff regarding this, so we think the best answer is to repost the list from the other thread and those on the list that want to (and are comfortable to) send me their contact details can you please send them to:
