If we can show Renault that there are over 400 problem wheels amongst only 0.5% of the cars or something then that has some meaning!

Below is some of my post from a couple of pages ago:-

Bored so just did a bit math.
Out of all UK registered Clio sports from 172 ph1 to the Clio Trophy, which is 13069 cars.
Based on the amount of names on this list 388.
388/13069x100 = 2.968%.

So thats 2.968% of all clio sports on this web site whos steering wheels have fallen to bits. Can you imagine what this % would be if all people with RS Clios had their names on this list. I think it would be well over 7% or 1000 RS Clios, which IMO is a major design issue, bearing in mind this started happening to most cars with low milage.

Ok shall i contact watchdog and get them to do a report on it like they did with the bonnet catch thing?
With over 400 people having the same problem and renault just saying they have not had this problem before i think the news or likes of people like watchdog would take great interest.

I think so, this is obv a problem that needs to be taken higher. I have contacted Renault about this, to be advised that it is down to wear and tear. Its worth a try..

I posted about problem wheel back in July but seem to have been missed from list so now added above.
May be of interest that I bypassed the local dealers and contacted Renault UK Customer Services direct by phone about this problem as car was over 5 years old and clearly out of warranty. This was around middle of last year and I was almost immediately offered a 60% contribution towards a replacement wheel subject to dealer inspection which needless to say confirmed the problem. This left me with a bill of £172 which I finally accepted as it was clear I wasn't going to get anything more. (I think the wheel ex VAT was £300 and labour about £75 so, with recent VAT increase, full dealer cost now including VAT must be about £440.)
I suspect an aftermarket wheel would have been quite a bit less but that would have meant sacrificing the driver airbag and the steering wheel contols which,to me, wasn't an attractive option.

Ok i have been in touch with watchdog and sent a nice ish letter to them.

Dear Sir/Madame
When buying the renault i have had for 5 years now i was told it was a leather steering wheel and would last forever, in recent months my steering wheel has melted or in some cases destingrate.
I have contacted my local garage about this but they have said its a minimum of £500 to fix and is a one off case.
I have done a search on the internet with a groupe of people and found over 400 other owners that have the same problem.
We have asked renault UK again but get no responce from them.
Also talking to some of the owners of the newer renaults an they are having the same problem as soon as it warms up.
Such things as the thumb grips have come away, edges of the steering wheel sticks to you hands like road tar, people have used wheel cover but now can not remove them.
The number of people who have this problem is growing by the day, yet Renault UK say its a one off case.
Please i hope you could feature this program so we can build a stronger case and find other that are also suffering with the same problem.

Whats the cost from Renault for a new steering wheel?
