viewed a 172

Went to look at a 172 today which was well looked after, FSH, Mot and tax but it sounded like the exhaust was blowing but when drving it sounded like the engine when pushing it so is it the engine or exhaust?

but it has somehow just passed its MOT today. I said to the guy is it aftermarket and he said no its same one from when purchased new (03 plate) so a good 6 year old.

I also asked if cambelt had definatly been done but he said where he got it serviced doesnt need it because its only on 35k (supposdly ex renault mechanic aswell)

The car is priced at 3995, and he says hes thinking of giving it to webuyanycar as it got valued at 4160 but surely with the exhaust blowing he waint get that and he doesnt sound too open to negotiating because of the mileage

What you think i should try going for price wise or just leave it?

He's chatting s**t about webuyanycar giving him that much, if they were giving him that much he'd take it there and not be offering it cheaper, they wouldn't give him that much for it anyway probs offer 3k for it they offer f**k all as they're owned by carcraft.

the thing with webuyany car is that he showed the email and i have just done the same and its come at 4135 so it must be right, but thats probably an incentive to get him to go in so they can knock it down more and find faults with it and get it cheaper

got even better when he said its his daughters car and shes been driving it today so i had to wait to see it, then when i got there it was garaged and he said it has been for a while because she cant live with it because of having a kid, but he then said its just sitting in garage doing nothing so he may aswell sell it, and he doesnt live near his daughter so why would she come and drop it off there to go somewhere else?

i would have thought it was only worth 3500 if it needs belts and exhaust. Have a look at some more.

Yeh tbh the full sevice history isn't a big deal, so long as its been looked after with regular oil changes and has reciepts for parts etc is more what i'd look for.

£3500 for a 172 with no history and belts not done is too much nowadays, regardless of mileage.

It really is a buyer's market mate; be patient and search around and you'll find a bargain.

Lol we buy any car offered me £3695 for my 2004 182 so i find it hard to believe they offered him that much for a 172.

Webuyanycar is a joke, I really dont understand why anyone would sell their car to them. I just bought a Ph2 172 off a Renault dealership. It only has 22500 miles on it and Renault changed the belts and it also needed a new set of driveshafts. If the belts haven't been done I would seriously consider looking elsewhere as they seem to cost in the region of £350 - £400 to get done!

was like a crap 3" tail aftermarket exhaust thats chavs have from outside but when putting foot down it seem to come from the front of the car but on idle was coming from about 2 places in the exhaust
