The VW Audi Skoda Seat Thread

Had mine in for a service a couple of weeks ago, and they confirmed it had the infamous coolant leak from the thermostat housing (I’d been topping it up every so often). Got it sorted by the lads over at KWJ in Warrington before heading down to South Wales for a few nights away.

How much was the thermostat housing fix? Did they do the pump too? Mines under warranty still but it’s always in the back of my mind.

I paid £671 with the water pump included. They all seem to let go at different times, so it’s pot luck really. Mine’s on 55k miles now, which is pretty good going compared to some.

Do they put a revised part on it or is it a case of playing roulette again?

Alway get pump and stat housing both changed, If you don't it will leak again soon mine did.
I had just the stat changed under warranty then months later it liked again I traded it in then so wasn't bothered.

Have just replaced the AC compressor and condenser on my Leon (Mk6 Golf platform)
What now? Do I have to inject oil into the compressor? Can I drive it to a place to get the AC charged, will they have the PAG oil?

Also, f**k this job. What a total pain in the bum!

Can you use one of these kits which has gas, oil and sealant till you get it to a garage?

Yea I've got the filling kit and the can's are not expensive, are they ok to fill a system from empty? They only connect to the low pressure side of the system.

or does it need a professional kit because it's completely empty?

No local mobile regas people round your way that would be less hassle.

@Scrooge knows about this stuff but I've always been of the understanding that to properly fill the system you need to vac it first which also removes any moisture.

I accidentally turned my Clio ac pump upside-down when it was off the car and poured all the oil out, I bought PAG oil and refilled it however there was really no spec on line (that i could find) telling you how much oil to put in so I guessed, I also didn't think the proper garage style refill systems added oil?

Anyway, Scrooge will know and won't be just making stuff up like me.

Always use a proper machine with a proper set of gauges imo.

If it’s empty it needs a vacuum etc I also like to fill with nitrogen first as sometimes systems leak and don’t show on vacuum etc

You also usually need something like a Maxidas to double check pressures and make sure everything is working correctly. Mobile Ac. Guys tend to have these

The can are a false economy

American EZ conversion. 1600 on twin carbs with a nice interior conversion. Slightly lowered on replica wheels. Has later braking system with discs up front. Bottom of the pile for Splitscreen officianos and with plenty of patina but one I/we can use and for once a vehicle the Mrs approves of!
Nice one!! Is it LHD or RHD? (can I work this out from the position of the wipers?)

I've always wanted one.

@cat171 Thanks. It’s a German van that would have been imported new to America so is LHD. It came to the UK in 2012. Fingers crossed we should be getting it next week 🤞

I replaced the inlet valve on the A3 like 12 months ago and then started getting the ol' engine management light and starting to shudder on shut down. I've since learnt these VAG bags of w**k need to have the inlet "Coded", do you think that's what is causing the issue again, a brand new unit shouldn't have failed after 6 months surely?

Our A3 was causing us all sorts of headaches in the end so we just fucked it off.

How you getting on with the 320?
Absolute dream, we've had 2 issues but relatively straight forward. Creaky top mounts, £50 a side and track rod arms at £55 a piece, but that was because we took it for alignment and they were seized. Mrs loves it, I weirdly love it.

Haven’t given the RS3 any love lately, so with a bit of free time today thought I’d give it a wash. We had got in the habit of having a chap we know who is a detailer come and wash them every month or so, but have been slack getting him over and at £60 a pop (for 2 cars) I’d rather do it myself.

Had bought the trio of polar blast/wash/seal ages ago so have that a try, seemed ok and looks alright sat on the drive.

The pipes were looking pretty grim, sat polishing with some brasso for a bit to get them a bit better, but need to work out how to get the stubborn bits off.

Then as I’m a 44 year old child thought I’d get a video of the cold start, and ‘normal’.

Cold start:

Warm, starting off in dynamic mode then cycling through to show how it quietens a little…

Car is still completely standard, no plans to do anything especially whilst I’m still covering it with the Audi warranty (I’ve won the warranty game given the work it’s had done, including a new front transfer box)

I am slightly tempted by an exhaust valve controller for when I want to be a child and make loud noises, even in dynamic it doesn’t fully open them until higher rpm so might be nice to be able to override that. Also on the flip side, shut them when starting it up early morning.

Inside needs a good clean as I’ve not touched that in ages, and the wheels badly need a refurb (any recommendations @Poopensharten :ROFLMAO: )

Keep looking at newer models but cost to change seems high and I still love it.

Looks so unassuming that 👍
Credit to the first owner who specced it with things like body coloured mirrors, debadged (I have added the front grill badge back on, and have a rear badge sat here if I fancy it), no bad mans tints, silver trim etc.

Although did also spec the red calipers which give the game away, along with the sports exhaust option 😂

Kept the standard silver wheels as well which I prefer over the two tone black or grey diamond cut hobbies.

I did pop along to the local Audi garage as saw they had an Ascari blue RS3 in and I wanted to check the colour out in the flesh as couldn’t tell from pictures/configurator what it was really like.

I liked it and it passed the wife test too.

Although we both said the rear bumper area looks like it’s trying too hard, it’s a bit ‘bulgy’ and fussy.

Probably around a 40k difference in price to mine which seems nuts (think this was up for 62k, can get a new one for that on Drivethedeal specced up with the new very smart bucket seats).

Other than having CarPlay built in (I’ve got an add on box which isn’t as integrated), and a reversing camera (I could retrofit), I almost prefer the more basic interior on the older model, there’s a lot of black gloss plastic on this which doesn’t look as good to me.

Can’t say I’m a huge fan of the new RS3. Also how much of the options on that new RS3 are hidden behind a “function on demand” subscription?

I wouldn't say no, but I prefer the pre-facelift version of the current RS3. My main gripe is the front badge sticking out, looks weird!
