So after a couple of months of having a fatty induction set up I upgraded to a ktec kit and finally fitted it yesterday. Whilst it sounds like nice, if I'm honest it doesn't really sound much if any better than the fatty kit. I'm a little bit underwhelmed tbh. I'm also not impressed with the...
Does sound nice. Not much louder than the fatty set up, but more consistent across rev range maybe if that makes any sense? Does make me laugh that I'm paying about 30 quid for a Ramair filter, then an extra 20 for them to print KTR on it ?
I can confirm that Ktec induction kit air filters are definitely made by Ramair, as has been suspected. Noticed this on the bag of the replacement one I bought.
@imprezaworks you were right lol...
Finally managed to do my door trim after using a bigger torx key to get the damn bolts out. Boring, and lots of scrubbing, but definitely worth it ? I found using an old plastic bank type card helped to scrape the nasty rubber coating off along with the scourer sponge and plenty of washing up...
So I decided to do mine today, but the damn torx bolts holding them on decided to round off. Any ideas how I can get them out? I'm thinking drilling them out would be the only way. Sometimes I hate my car, nothing is ever straightforward ?
That's what I'm thinking tbh, as no plans to remove it. Will try thread lock, but if that doesn't work then a bit of superglue on top of the gearstick should do the trick.
Out of interest, did you have any issues with the grub screw working loose? Mine doesn't want to stay tight. I may use a bit of thread lock, but not sure if it will make much difference as the screw can't bite into the metal shaft. Maybe I should just superglue it on... ?
Got the Richbrook one fitted. Was a pain in the a** getting the old one off. Used hacksaw and screwdriver and just broke it off in bits. End result is worth it though ? Only minor issue is the little bolt holding it on keeps working loose, so may have to use a little bit of thread lock on it.
Logically, I couldn't agree more.
However I've just spent the last hour or so reading through the storm grey 172 track car thread and I think I'm in love lol. That colour is epic on a 172. Considering nearly every panel on my car has scratches, scuffs, dents, etc, most of the car will need a...
Purely hypothetical question at this stage, but if you had 5k to spend and you already owned a 172 that you'd already spent a fair bit on, would you:
A) Spend money on improving said 172, renewing and replacing parts, upgrading, sorting bodywork, etc. Maybe even an engine swap. Better the devil...
Mine is getting a bit iffy also. Need to get a small area of bubbling on my passenger arch addressed soon, so will get bodyshop to do filler cap area at the same time. If it does need new metal in the fuel cap area, I'm assuming any mk2 clio panel would fit, or would bodyshop just fabricate...
Richbrook do a ball one that's similar to the ph1. They've recently discontinued it, however I got mine off ebay for just over 20 quid:

Going to be careful removing the original one. Am hoping a hairdryer and a lot of patience should enable me to get it off without issue, however things are rarely straight forward with my Clio lol...
Ordered the Richbrook silver ball gear knob from Demon Tweeks Direct on eBay. Does look very similar to the ph1 one, just a bit shinier perhaps. Either way should be an improvement over the standard ph2 gearknob.
I really like the look of the ph1 gear knob over the one in my ph2 172, however I don't really want the hassle of swapping over the entire gear stick just to get one. Are there any aftermarket gearknobs available that look the same/similar to the ph1 alloy one? Had a look on ebay with no success...
Out of interest, do you clean the pipe as well as the filter? I've just bought a second hand ktec induction kit and was going to wash and oil the filter as a matter of course, but now I'm wondering if I also need to wash the pipe out too. It's black so probably won't show any dirt either...
