On mine, it works with the key out of the ignition, if you operate it quickly enough. Guess there is some sort of capacitor in there which discharges pretty quickly, if it isnt used.

I should add that this is the mk1 version of the mStation where the separate LCD display connects into top of device, rather than the the mk2 version where the display connects into the back of the device.

Ive recently brought a 182 ( moving up from a T reg 1.2 clio) - impressed doesnt even begin and thats with currently keeping it under 4.5k rpm, as Im still only at 700ish miles (Im bringing in an additional 1k rpm every 100 miles ... I see myself keeping this car as long as the 1.2 :) ). Anyway...
