Thanks for all your help so far everyone. I'll swap over the starter relay and see if that fixes anything. If that doesn't work then I'll run a full diagnostic on the car and see if any error codes are present.
Update:
I tried a new spade connector on the starter signal wire, and it hasn't made any difference. 4 out of 5 starts are perfect, but then all of a sudden, the old problem is back. When I turn the key, and I just hear a loud click, and then nothing. If I try again, I may here the click a few...
Hi everyone, a very old member signing back in for some help (sold my 172 Cup in 2005).
My Mrs has a Clio and it's developed a strange starter motor issue. You turn the key and I just hear a click, but no starter motor sound follows. After 3 or 4 goes, it starts normally and everything is fine...
Yeah but you know what people are like. The landlord obviously wasn't happy, so I didn't want to rub more salt in the wound by doing it one last time, only for him to evict every other car from the carpark too, spoiling every ones fun.
So that's why I opted for the granny drive by instead...
Hi all,
I really enjoyed the meet. Although I sold my 172 Cup a few years ago, I still have a huge soft spot for Clio Sports and probably always will.
I was just going to jump in my brother's Trophy, but decided I'd take the Evo instead as it was such a beautiful day.
I hope no one...
Must just be the imobilisor code.
I sent him a PM saying that the new ECUs have a blank code in them and the first time they are started the code from the key is written to the ECU. From this point they are paired.
Hi Rob,
Im very sorry to hear what has happened, but at the same time I am happy to hear that you are not hurt in any way. Things could have been much worse.
The damage looks significant, and as you say, will it ever be the same again??? Perhaps its better to move on.
P.S. Thanks for the...
I was there with the MLR too. Was in a Silver Evo VI. Where you in the convoy on the way there?

There is a space to the left of the head unit near the front. You can tuck loads down there. It points towards the glove compartment.
Cant help with the alarm though!
Youve done no damage at all. Get some sleep.
As long as you dont do it a few times a day there is no harm in clipping the limiter.
Also, 172s are good for 8k revs and the standard ECU only lets you rev to 7250 IIRC so you would be nowhere near the engines limit.
My Evo VI is capable of 60 in 4.4 sec and 100 in 11.2 (Autocar figures which do not lie). VII figures are a little off.
Im all for people modifying their cars, but for me, trying to make a 172 faster than it already goes is like beating a dead horse. What you gain in some areas you lose in...
Do you know what - I had a little go with a Nova 2.0 the other day and the thing BLOODY FLEW.
I got a crap launch (Im quite careful with my clutch) and i only just started catching him towards the end of second gear.
I think I would have left him in 3rd gear but it was in a 30 zone. When we...
You saw the Evo owner not wanting to lose his licence, and the chav in the RS not caring if youre referring to the "WEVE GOT AN EVO" video on the motorway sliproad!
I have a friend with an Escort RS Turbo running just over 220bhp and my car takes the absolute piss out of it.
A 250bhp RS...
Firstly stay well away from hi-spec based on what Ive heard from many sources.
Secondly - the only reason you would need big brakes is if you do trackdays. Otherwise you just dont benefit.
The AA dont do them anymore.
I used RAC and they were bloody superb. Didnt miss a thing and they are not the guys who tow you away if you break down - these guys are properly trained.
I did pay £170 for it, but was worth every penny.
Something like this mate.

Is it really "Evo eating" though? I mean come on - it might have the same power as the Evo, but I cant see it running 11 seconds to 100mph through its front wheels!
You can also get some really great amps that have 4 channels for the speakers, and then a seperate channel with isolated filters and controls for the sub.
I looked at one a while ago, but then spent my money on something else!
Id sooner go this route that the convertor route too.
Just look on the amp for a high level input. Its normally about 1cm across with 3 pins in it. Your speaker wire goes straight in.
If you want to avoid the fee then just get the seller to sign a decleration that any outstanding finance on the car shall be down to them.
Thats free and is quite common!
