    Broken gearbox

Easy there chaps, dont scare Mr G. I had exactlty the same problem, jumping out of second on engine breaking, and occasionally in third under heavy acceleration. Turns out it was one of the cir-clips split and broke off the lay-shaft (apparently common on the 16v engine). I had a local garage...

    cold air ducting

Homebase, Focus, etc etc, all seem to do either 50mm or 100mm (flexi etal ducting). You may be able to adapt to your requments, it worked for me.

    redex

Acts as a slight octane booster aswell, so has a similar effect to Optimax, etc. Give a little more poke, cleans the jets and value housings...worth a shot every so often.

OPTIMAX - is it worth it

I disagree, the optimax seems to give a little more punch at high revs. Not saying it affects the very top speed, but certainly make its it a lot nippier at high revs.. Have to use it for a few tanks to find the full effects. Worth the extra pennies.

    Valver handbrake (failed MOT)

Quite often people just tighen the handbrake cables so much there is just no travel left to actually use it. If the handbrake tighens but still not works, try to loosen the cables (from under the heatshield). Worked a treat for mine.

How low do you let your oil get

Quick tip..ignore the oil gauge on the dash. Its quite often a little dodgy, so check on the actual dipstick..

    handbrake cable - urgent !

Phase one clio is underneath the exhaust scilencer heatshield. This is removed with two nuts, the adjust with two 10mm or 12mm spanners. Its a little tight for space but can be done.

    bike engines.. (hayabusa mainly)

Great idea in something that weighs similar to a Westfield or Caterham, bad idea in anything heavier as the lack of torque will leave you revving the nuts off it, before anything happens.

    How much for williams conversion

Save your money.. buy a williams. Its not just the engine, the whole package is infinately better.

    sunroof

As Clio_novice has said, it real real common on nearly all Mk1 Clios. I got the sunroof seal sorted, but the main leak was comming in from under the sunroof to car roof seal. Its not too tricky to take the whole thing out. Start at the rear tilt handle then take the black rubber seal off (all...

    tyre opinions

Id go for the ol faithful goodyear F1 eagles if available in your size, they are working beautifully on my 16v. Also you always put the best tyres on the front..They are doing all the steering and putting all the power down on the road..Always on the front..

What sdrt of noise from a de-cat

Hi.. Ok, so ive decided to de-cat my Mk 1 16v, but any ideas where i can get the de-cat from.? I believe Magnex do one, but cant find anywhere to buy it (or a cheaper alternative) from. Any suggestions much appreciated. Scoop.

    Braided Brake Lines

Ive used goodridge braided hoses before, and in my mind are worth the money. They really sharpen up the feel of the brake pedel, eliminate any sponginess and inpire confidence when breaking hard. Only small downside, if you let someone else drive, they can find it a bit all-or-nothing.

    dodgy clutch and gearbox

Not sure if the RT is similar to the 16v, but on mine it was popping out of just 3rd and 4th. Found to be one of the c-clips worn out on the lay shaft. Local garage managed to fix it without taking the whole box out. Cost 100, but still a lot less than a new box. It would be worth getting it...

    16v Phases

Also the phase 2 had the new Renalut badge on the front (smooth not ridged), and the grill is slightly different. I think the Phase two came maily with electric sunroof, where as the P1 was manual tilt.

    Clutch fitting prices!!!!

I had to get my clutch done on a phase 1 16v last week. Renault dealer wanted £627 but got it elsewhere, parts, fitting for £340. Had trouble getting any cheaper so if youve been quotes lower, id go for it.. No idea on the 5GTt or 16v option..seems strange to go for the 5GTt when the clio...

How do you make a cold air intake

You can also run something from the side of the radiator, through the grill. Although the radiator runs quite close, cut the plastic to allow a cold air scoop (take your pick of tubing), to direct to an air box or unduction kit. Seems to work well on mine, although the induction kit is still...

    Clio 16V Tyres

Id go for the Goodyear Eagle F1s on 195/50. The 185/55 are alightly rarer, and as such a little more expensive. The 195s obviously give a little bigger footprint and protect the rims in the event that you nip a curb. The F1s were good in both wet and dry..

Yep real easy, and its a normal crosshead on mine, not the seemingly standard torx bits.

Cold start idle on a ’91 Clio 16v

Nice one all. Was not sure if was a sensor or the control valve. Ill give it a clean first, then look to replace. Cheers for all your help, very impressive. So, anyone where i can get some replacement seat covers for a 16v.? Cheers, much apprecaited. Scoop.

Cold start idle on a ’91 Clio 16v

Hi, Was hoping someone could advise me on a cold start problem Im getting on my mk1 Clio 16v. When starting from cold the idle is erratic, varying +/- 500 from whatever revs you are at. When trying to accelerate the engine tries to stall. This happens only for a few minutes, but its a...
