172 Cup Hillclimb / Sprint Car

I also really like the look of your car / might copy the naked race car look was considering wrapping mirrors bump strips and having sunstrip. Already got the roundels on 👍🏻

Cheers, got all my inspiration from Cup Racers of the era, came out ok I think :) Hardest part was finding the decals tbh. Sunstrip is a god send on track on a sunny day tbh.

Found this OEM blanking plate existed for the stereo remote control for a fiver from RPD. I'd never even used it and covers up me breaking the clip, plus must be at least a 5 gram saving [emoji23] got to be worth a hundredth a lap!

Good write up!

Have you got a part number for the remote cover? i also broke the clips on mine!

I don't have a standard stereo so it doesn't mater but would be good to tidy up the hole!

Looks awesome mate. The steering wheel is a great addition. Look forward to more updates.

So tomorrow would have been my first race of 2020 Curborough Championship but for obvious reasons its not happening, no race permit until end of June from MSUK and maybe nothing this season we shall see.

I'm permanently working from home, my wife works on Covid wards at hospital and likes driving too so managed to get agreement to get racing online and have a bit of fun...

Stay safe everyone, hopefully be on track later this year.

So unfortunately but not unexpectedly Curborough Championship has been cancelled for 2020. 5 of 9 races are before end of June plus a full calendar for the track for the rest of the year means Championship cancelled.

I'll likely do a couple of stand alone events at Curborough when things are back open, the other thought was to look at other places to go race or track days even. So if any has any recommendations I'm all ears. Harewood and Blyton only an hour from home, Donnington closest but obviously track days only there for me.

I've heard Curborough will run a few individual events but without spectators, which is a pisser for me as I've been going there for years with it being close to home.
If you want any advice or have any questions regarding tracks or trackdays, send a message this way.

I got a very nice 40th present of a voucher for Harewood Hillclimb Academy, cancelled for this year but will book on to first one of 2021. As its not racing its sitting here nice and shiny.

Also considering getting new exhaust (slight blow) possibly custom one as would like stainless steel to OEM design as not much choice out there.

New front brakes fitted but was a ball ache. Stuck disc bolt so had to drill out, non standard slider had to find one of dads old spanners right size to fit. Then realised I didn't have anything to press back pistons. After a rummage in garage found this sealant gun, worked a treat 😂

Brembo HC discs and Mintex M1144 fitted just needs a drive to follow bed in procedure then MOT to be booked next week.

Finally played a bit of "thats Numberwang" stuck black numbers on to magnetic vinyl. I got mixed up on races still on this year so fingers crossed as second reserve for BMMC at Curborough end of August.

A bit of good news, phone call this morning offered cancelled place for me for Saturdays race. Another phone call to garage and car goes in and passes MOT this afternoon.

A couple of advisories to sort PAS pipe weeping and inner ARB past their best, not sure time to sort before Saturday but otherwise I'm good to go! It's pretty much a year to date since been on track looking forward to it.

First sprint of the year today, got a new personal best of 69.81 seconds (3 seconds faster than my best last season).

Finished 4th in class (another personal best) now less than half a second off 1st, some bloke called @Rob Thomson apparently he's quite quick? 😂

My aim was to crack 70 seconds today and get in the mix with the fast guys in this class so was a good day at the office.

Always tempted back mate, but with 2 kids now and a wife who works weekends it's difficult to attend. I did a members afternoon in the bm a couple of weeks ago which was great fun!

Soon as spectators are allowed back in I'll be bobbing down with the boys!

Well done James, that was a seriously good effort to find so much time from last year! You're right with us now. I reckon there was only 0.52s covering the top four in SC, so competitive.

This was my mistake in T2 -

Cheers all. Its my fault for telling you about Dave C last year going through speed trap at a record 52mph and still making the corner, then telling us we all needed to be braver literally everyone in our class went off at that corner trying to better it on the next run.

It must be some psychological trick as after telling you that story we both then went off at same place. I just checked results I went through final at 49mph but completely missed the corner! Think you went through at 37mph but it was sideways!

Thanks for that ..I recognise most names...what happened to Jack Twomey in the Mg ?? No timed run ?

Yeah think Craig is fastest (the one to watch when events are regular again) in MGs won that class in last year championship and was 2nd overall.

Yeah..I entered my standard MG into that class this yr to see how it goes ..superb handling cars , if I'm honest feels sharper chassis wise that my clio ..but obviously a lot slower in a straight line ...as you can see from his lap record ..72 odd seconds on figure of eight ..not bad for a 100 BHP car ..
