on the way to the trafford centre yesterday , gave it a good blast! ( near limiter in 5th) got to the pont where ihad to lift off and the car made a heck of a din like a walin noise. blipped the trotle and it went... all is fine.......................on the way back went o bruns got some forte gas treatment went to the garage put half a tank in with the bottle drivin home and the car started judderin then it died. stopped and started and it was makin a proper loud noise! like a blowin zorst but really loud! car has no power and will just about drive.. aa came out , said the usual cant fix it it xmas eve lol prob ur mani, asked him to plug it into the clip but he is certain it is the zorst.... help

Doesnt sound as bad as you thought then mate. defo not engine related?? Sounded proper like a proper knocking noise when your where on the phone!!

Least a manifold is cheaper than an engine!!

Check the exhaust lambeda sensors.
I'd think its your exhaust you may have cracked it or disconnected it.
The high speed runs will have heated evrything up like mad and made it expand.

Sounds most likly to be the exhaust but coil pack etc are possibilities.

I don't know what laptop they use or software. The proper Renault software is the only decient one for diagnostics.

i really hope this is not a dead internal im proper shittin it lol, had a look under the car yesterday, can see and blows and this sounds like it from the engine bottom end, but we put a wet cloth over the end of the zorst whilst it was running and it never cut out?

Sounds just like your exhaust has failed get under it and have a look for any missing bolts etc.

i had a look under the car but i cant quie see the flange the rest of the zorst looks like new but the flange im not sure, its proper loud though edde, ive got a sound clip on ma phone, if i txt it some one can someone host it?

might not help too much mate, but the same sort of thing happened on my old XR2 a few years ago now, and it was the exhaust. i was cr@pping myself coz it sounded terrible, but it turned out ok.......

put your foot over the exhaust to see if its blowing?

Have you tried getting under the car while you have the exhaust pipe covered, you stand more chance of hearing where it is from then!

^^ have done m8 but its that loud can t hear the blow

well we covered and sealed the exaust and the engine didnt cut out so does that norrow it down any more...

you won't stall the engine that way, i've never been able to on a 172

have a look at the CAT, but that defosounds like a missing plug

take the inlet off and have a look

Pretty sure thats a zorts problem mate, manifold area looks good and gradually got worse, prob been waiting to go for some time and as soon as u started to put some proper heat thru it its given up! No manifold no pressure etc all goes to rats, dont panic

Ecotec Cavaliers suffer a problem where a manifold stud shears causing a leak on cylinder no.4 IIRC. This causes a really bad tapping noise, much the same as what you're experiencing from what I gather.

Yeah just sounds like zorst, - although very close to engine, sounds "pure", unslienced. Mine went just in front of back box, and sounded rough, but not as bad as that. A mate of mine had an R5 and that went in front of middle box - sounded just like that.
