well it turns out after stripping the inlet that the engine has blown a plug out, shredded the block and eaten the ht lead, FUCKED! gona try and get it helecoiled, hears some pics..................

u won a 2 week break in L.A. with 5k spends. how much are we sayin for a heli coil then?

40 quid with head on we think. fred what im worried about is the fact why it blew out..... i have have it pluged ack in is it gona go bang again.

20secs on the limiter in 5th was the problem!!!!! LOL

it was probably ever so slightly not as tight as the others IIRC the tourque setting is around 25nm for plugs

it happens mate, you were just unlucky, get helicoiled, bang a new set of plugs in, replace HT, job done

I've just seen this thread. Basically the noise you could hear thata you originally described is the sound of the air being sucked in and forced out on the stroke of the piston as the engine internals are open to the outside.

Sounds f**king terrible. lol.

j3neds probably your best bet as he has the engines up there as well.
I'm not sure what the problem is though is it just that the plug needs helicoiling out if so any garage can do it realy and replace the plugs etc
 
If you had a serious loss of power then it could be one of the coils has failed (renaults are notorious for this). I think they are about £50 each from the dealer. My car had a similar noise and I had hardly any power and it turned out to be a coil.

ok up date so far, had the heli coil fitted today with new plugs, oil etc, whilst it was at the garage i had my 172 decat and new mid fitted, then we put the enginre together and started!

engine started all four cylinders are running but the b*****d thing is ideling at 4k, and the emmisions light is on?

i got it down to either we have missed a vacume pipe on re fit or somthing to do with the exhaust lambda ?

i have the first lambda in with the second out?
 
Does the emissions light come on if a decat pipe is fitted due to wrong sensors etc?? I'm sure I read something about it on here but not 100% sure.

Good news though about getting it fixed. Welldone mate

check for an air leak and do a leakdown test.

When stripping a plug and helicoiling, its a wonderful world of mystery as to where swarf can get....and you dont want it inside, and especially not on a valve seat.

back of the inlet manifold there is the brake vac pipe that will make it idle high is it plugged in proper?

ill look at this, ^^ got the car back today it still idling at 4k, but they put it on there clip and it brought up idle valve resitor?, is the vdo sensor nect to the t/b on the back of the inlet?

Right, now my flippin car has done exactly the same thing and blown one of the spark plugs through. Does anyone know any places in the Swansea area that could do this for me?

any good garage can do it, i got my head helicoiled. new plugs for 100+vat, just make sure they get all the swaf out!! they used a mini hover in my head, got all ov it out, then left the plugs out with the mani off and turned it over a few times which blew the dust n smaller bits out, never had any issues since
