1st Basic Mods

As well as the new Milltek cat-back, added :-

ITG panel filter

Hillpower inlet hose (had to cut down length to fit)

Removed rear headrests, jack/tools + Milltek is lighter - total weight loss 15kg

70mm CAF (this ends just above the opening to the top of the acoustic valve assembly, picks up cold air but because it's open ended you get plenty of induction noise) It's same pickup point as the Maxogen so it'll do for me

Along with the Milltek sounds great, throttle response improved, pulls better in every gear

Cleaned all engine bay / under bonnet with AG EC and AG Vinyl..........

Next round is :-

Remove rear ELF sticker
Add Cliosport sticker
Add Cliosport tax disc holder
Silvervision clear indicator bulbs
Different Renault Sport badges (Meg 225 last gen)
Eibach Sportlines + tracking
Brake bleed
New plates
Possibly matched inlets
RSTuning remap
Spray side badges in anthracite same as alloys

You sure you have only lost 15kg?

I though the wheel would weigh about 14kg, the jack 3 or 4 and then the tools at least a kilo and the headrest a couple.

Milltek is 8.2kg less than OEM
3 x rear headrests + wheelbrace etc is 7.1kg less
Total 15.3kg, not amazing but suppose every little helps !!

not keen on the hose.

Is the cold air feed bigger than the 172?

The airbox is the same as the Mk2 172 I think
Still experimenting with the air feed, ideally I'd like to remove the whole acoustic valve assembly, for now I removed the OEM feed pipe, seperated the plastic end that goes into the side of the airbox then put a 70mm pipe over it, this ends pointing at the entrance to the top opening of the valve, picking up air from it and general areas against side of the engine bay where the Maxogen would do

The original pipe I found to be of varying diameter, even collapsed at one point and the material I'm sure absorbed some induction noise, it'll do for now but all the mods combined have def made a noticeable difference imho

I may remove the valve and improve feed when I get the inlets + remap

^^ Anyone know how much these are from Renault? ^^

  Not got a car
its very tight in there, I found that there is another air feed wih no pipe to cold air on mine it just exits out in to the engine bay. Like a big funnel.

^ About £20 new, I bought some for my 172, Suited the rear just nice, slightly smaller, different style and just a bit different, I think I've the part number + pics somewhere, will check and confirm

What's the advantage with the Hillpower bend Rich?

I've got an ITG panel filter on the 172, but not modded the bend or the cold air feed.....yet.;)

^ To be perfectly honest, prob very little, the inside def is a smoother finish and looking at the pics it seems like its a constant 70mm end-end whereas the OEM I don't think is, but I also wanted to brighten up the engine bay a little, I'm not kidding myself the pipe has added 2bhp or something !! Honestly it's prob not actually worth the £52 inc postage but I just thought why not

That would be great mate, pics would be a bonus as I've not seen them on a mk2 yet.

Did you let your insurance company know about the mod's ??
If so how much is the increase in the premium?

Want to change to an ITG panel filter myself, but as it's classed as a non-standard performance mod, they want 35 quid on top (!!!) .... same price as the filter.

I was with Norwich Union direct, they would only allow 2 mods and wanted £125 one off fee and another £200 on the annual fee at next renewal, ended up going with Adrian Flux and I've disclosed absolutely everything to the nth degree, it's simply not worth risking imo

Cheers for that - wouldn't risk not telling them anyway - was just interested to no how much others pay and decide if worth upgrading. 35 quid not bad it seems.

Be good to see how your future mod's take shape - good so far !

^ soz for delay guys, been away, found some off-car pics will post tonight, cant find my on-car pics though

Only pic I have is off-car, it's not clear from this pic that the last gen Meg225 RS badges are smaller than those on the Mk2 172/182, and slightly different font too, theres no underline under the badges, I'll try and find them and take a pic of them alongside those on my 182 to compare

I took them off my 172 before I sold it last August, the letters aren't spaced out correctly now

Pic don't really seem to look much different to 172/182 but they definitely are, I can vouch for that

I tried the new 197 style RS badges on my 182 but they didn't seem right imo, too small

Part number = 82 00 324 611
Approx £23 approx 1 week delivery

bollox its a direct replacement part!!!, would you tell them you had ferodo brake pads instead of renault, or castrol oil instead of elf??!!!......

wonder how some of you guys sleep at night, for the thought of never waking up

lol

And in the event of an accident the chances of the insurance company undoing all the bolts and opening your airbox for no reason, and knowing that you've used a different type of foam to the renault item is...

In fact, its quite high! Ive put castrol gtx in instead of elf oil! s**t!

^ at the end of the day it's irrelevant what we think, the simple fact is that in the eyes of your insurance company your technically uninsured, it's an excuse for them to not honour the policy, they don't need much of one to walk away so why make it easy for them, lying by omission don't work either, if it's a direct replacement part then why do we buy them, why not just buy the OEM one lol

i dont buy an OEM one as my itg doesnt need replacing every 12k

maxogen, yes i'd tell them, but NOT for a direct replacement panel filter. You will get no gains over a new paper filter. The only gain you get is not having to replace it. If your paying extra a year for it your a mug ;)

Can't be bothered labouring the "invalidated your insurance policy" any further, people makes their own choices about what their comfortable with at the end of the day, I just know I'm 100% covered without ANY comeback

As for ITG v OEM, don't think anyone genuinely believes there are power gains over std, but combined with a few basic breathing mods their are improvements on the road, the std air filter looks like it came off an Atco lawnmower ;)
