Another R53 Mini Cooper S

Yea Windsor is not far - we need to see how they go with the pulley fitted - off to Uxbridge with the big sprog this morning doing his RAF Cadets
What exhaust have you fitted?

I've just done the 1 ball mod, where one of the backboxes is removed. Bit more noise, loads more pops, but no drone.
If I was changing it I'd get the works backbox. Can be made to fit the standard centre section and sounds superb. Iirc can get it for 200ish. It's pricier for the facelift (different mounting bracket) but can be made to fit.

Quite like the Janspeed single system as long as it doesn't drone when your on the motorway - I was very keen to get a new ST but it just worked out too much and my credits a bit poo as I was made redundant a few years ago - you know how it all happens - MCS seemed like a good idea - what do people's use Mini Torque forum or?????

What other systems are used - had a milltek on my 200 which was quality

It seems most people use the Milltek system or the JCW system. But both around £150 more than the Janspeed.

So, Larkspeed have just phoned me to say that they can now no longer get stock from Janspeed as they wont produce less than 5 items at a time. So I'm now looking for an exhaust again.

So I'll buy one - that makes two ha ha - someone else must have them in stock surely

Yes indeed Dan at DC has confirmed that Janspeed are quote "
Sorry. These are not currently available. It seems Janspeed are basically no longer making performance exhausts!"

Look elsewhere then!!

I phoned around quite a few places and got the same answer. Never mind. I might have to go for a Milltek once my money has been refunds. £477 for a Milltek non res on eBay.

Sorry to hijack the thread a little but are there any common problems to look for on these? Looking to upgrade from the Clio soon and the Cooper S seems a good option.

Yours looks pretty much what I'm after, is that the Aero front grill? Not too clued up on them I'm afraid. Hoping I can grab one in British Racing Green.

Your best bet is Mini Torque for all the common problems and buying guides.

Yea it's an aero grill which I think is a must.

Started to look at these again. We had one about 4 years ago. Might replace the ST with one instead of leasing again..
Mine may have to go in the new year.

Works backbox. Cheap, and sounds superb

@ForceIndia any chance you could send me some details over as I'll be buying in the new year

2005 car (facelift) 77k miles
Full service history
Has Xenons, 3 spoke wheel, lsd etc
Since I bought it, following has been done
-15% pulley with matching spark plugs (engine health check including compression test done at the same time)
-front wishbone bushes uprated at the same time (£555 for both jobs)
-r56 calipers /discs /lines (big improvement in braking performance)
-one back exhaust mod
-jcw airbox/bonnet scoop/gear knob (approx £250 total)
-gp intercooler (£500),the best intercooler made for these
-refurbished wheels with new Bridgestone non run flat tyres
-sparco reclining drivers seat
Think that's it!
I bought it in June with the intention of keeping it long term. But change in work means I need a big boot and 5 doors.

Any chance you could PM me with a price and when you're looking to sell please.

Health check done on my R53 today (as well as a full service) all clear except one top engine mount on the way out and some rubber hangers for the exhaust so I had ordered 15% pulley belt and cold plugs within minutes bugger I had just cleared my credit card - see this going down a slippery slope ha ha

@ForceIndia Yeah, i'm starting to see a pretty obvious theme here.

TBH, shame it wasn't a few months back or i'd have bought yours for the missus tbh!

It's in the for sale section..
Cheers Budgie, had a little look @ForceIndia and it's a lovely car but I don't have the money right now, I'm looking to buy in the new year but good luck with the sale :)

OT - Mini looks great Wozza, I assume this is your daily, how are you finding it compared to the 182? My biggest worry is I'll lose the driving sensation of my 172.

I've had too many 1*2 to count. The mini is a nicer daily, and more fun more of the time. The clio ultimately has the better chassis, but I'd much rather have the mini.

Cheers mate, that's good to know, looking forward to getting one in the new year :D

Once you fit coilovers, adjustable top mounts/rear control arms and some decent tyres, the extra chassis rigidity & better steering of the mini make it better on track imho ... as long as you set it up for "maximum oppo" anyways ... standard for standard, or half-arsed on the mini and the clio is better out of the box however.

I'm loving it, I've only done a few short trips. Need to take it for a blast. Will be taking it to Lohen I reckon for their Stage 1 starter pack in December as they have 50% off fitting. So it will be a different car altogether.

I need to get my brakes fitted at some point as well.

The Lohen one will work out at £400 fitted. I think ill get the wishbone bushes down when I get my new exhaust.

Do you not need a re-map after having the pulley done? Also, does it totally destroy the MPG?
No just disconnet the battery for half hour then when you take it out go easy for the first 1/2 hour or so and the ecu will learn the new fueling etc.
No the mpg doesnt change much tbh.

I'm guessing these tuning companies will do that before I travel home.

Mine has marginally improved. Extra 20 miles per tank. After the first week, when you end up hooning everywhere.

Car has now been booked in at TWG Automotive in Camberley, who are a Mini/BMW specialist to do the 15% pulley reduction. I now also have all the bits to do the R56S brake conversion.

R56S Calipers
Brembo Brake Discs
JCW Pads
HEL Braided Lines
Dot 4 Brake Fluid

Also have all the bits to do the homemade K&N air box.

Going to order the MillTek exhaust this month. Can't wait for it all to be done.

Did you gather all the bits separately?

Don't suppose anyone offers an R56S brake package? @Sir_Dave
