Suspension torqued, springs changed, DRE shift light fitted in front of cluster using canbus converter to get signal, filled up with super unleaded and went for a test run...
Couple of issues, getting very hot every time you go near the throttle, and stop and low battery warning coming on. Drove back home carefully ie slowly off boost and had a look. I'm using the clio 197 radiator and fan pack on the standard wiring and relays so it should be okay certainly for road use so left the car running to see if the fan kicked in. It didn't, turns out the fan and thermostat were plugged in the wrong way round (same connector at similar place on loom), swapped over and fan comes to life and temps back to normal.
Battery warning bit more of an issue. Measured 13.8v at the battery when running, battery good, belts okay so a bit puzzled. To be honest not certain which alternator is fitted to the engine, it could be off the 172, the 225 or the 197. I had a look at the spare ones in the garage and one was 110A and the other 120A so then decided to take the one off the car. Turns out to be 110A, so swapped it for the 120A complicated by the fact I had to mount it slightly differently as a mounting point was broken. Turned out the exciter wiring is different as well so swapped the plug over from the 197 to the 225 loom and checked the wiring back to the UPC.
When it was back in the garage noticed it sounded like the exhaust was blowing. Poked around and it was blowing like mad from the turbo to downpipe join, I suspect the ebay special downpipe flange face is less than perfectly flat. Re-did the join and used some exhaust paste and its sorted. Decided to then check the other joints and they were all good apart from the lambda bung off the midpipe had fallen out. Luckily had a spare lambda sensor so bolted that up.
Test drive number 2, no battery warning lights and temperature reading normal when giving it boost.
Nearly done.
