fast Clios that aren’t 172s etc

  VW Potato

pls, how much slower than the 172 are the next fastest non 172 petrol Clios? I was behind one yesterday (normal looking one, nice blue 3dr Mk2) that was totally hoofing along. It wasnt hard to keep up, but i was well impressed by its pace. Are the 1.6s (or a 1.8?) quite fast then?

Quickest below the 2.0 172 is the 1.6 16v 110bhp. There not to bad but nothing to write home about performance wise.

There are some high powered Mk 2 CLio ie engine transplant jobs.

The biggest none 172 type is the 1.8 engined Mk2 Clios there wernt many made though and there of the none triangular light shape ie the new ones.

It depedns on the driver though if you hammer it to the readline then it will look quick.

There are no 1.8 Mk2 Clio models (Ph1 or Ph2) in the UK, or anywhere else AFAIK. The next step down from the 172/182 is the 1.6 16v or arguably the 1.5 DCi 100.

The Mk1 Clio daddies were the 16V and Williams. Dont be confused into thinking that the 16V is the next step down from the Willy - it was the 182 of its day, with the Willy being the equivalent to some sort of special edition 182 with something like a 2.2/3 bottom end. The next step down for the Mk1 clan is the 1.8 8v RSi.
