Gavin's Black Gold 182 - Progress Thread

Hey everyone,
If you saw my other thread in the media section you will know that I recently lost my gold ph1 non-sport due to a rotton subframe and sills so it had to go unfortunately! I absolutely loved it for my 5 years of ownership, I had a blast doing it up and it was absolutely sound mechanically throughout as well so I didn't have any big bills for it :grinning:
Naturally the replacement had to be a Renault Sport... I've always wanted one since I was younger so its awesome finally owning one.
I wanted a racing blue but instead I've got hold of a Black Gold 182!

Short spec on picking it up:
FF
Black Gold
Mileage is 50k
Full Milltek exhaust system (with sports cat)

It's had two owners in Northern Ireland and before coming here I know it was owned by an English girl. It is an absolutely fantastic example, paint work is in great condition and so is the interior.
Someone has replaced the steering wheel thumb grips during its lifetime and repainted the gear knob insert

So I've had it for around 3-4 weeks now and I have:
  • Changed the side light & reverse bulbs to CREE LEDs
  • Detangoed front & rear lights
  • Refurbished the headlights
  • Changed the number plates for standard UK font & 3/4 plate on front
  • Replaced wiper blades for aero style
  • Got an alloy footrest courtesy of M.A.D
  • Renault sport key ring
  • Skoda fabia splitter (to fit)
  • Custom induction setup by Fatty (to fit)

Update 17/11
Full years MOT on the car now along with two new track rod ends and gaiter refitted on the nearside as it was displaced before.
Other additions include:
Skoda Fabia Splitter & Cliosport.net sticker for the rear window (no photos for now unfortunately)
At ~£40 I decided to give fatty's induction setup a go over the standard airbox for a while :grinning: I may swap back to the standard airbox again in the future with a performance filter such as an ITG but for now I'm going to enjoy this setup!

To decrease the arch gap a bit and improve the suspension I picked up Eibach Sportlines, hope to get these on in the next few weeks along with some photos of the car to show off my changes.

Another update for you guys which I hope you enjoy :grinning: New additions include skoda fabia splitter, french flag vinyls for the front grill thanks to @kieren17389, 197 style 'Renault Sport' badge for the rear, a Cliosport.net decal for the rear window positioned below the spoiler brake light and carbon dipped interior dash strips / wheel insert thanks to @Darius.

Next additions to come in the new year include a steering wheel refurbished by @snappy, fitting of my Eibach Sportlines, starting of a red/black theme and some servicing. First thing in terms of servicing will be a change of gear box oil

Photos taken after a quick wash and going over with Poorboy's QD+ :grinning:

Thanks for reading!

The carbon dipped trim looks spot on!
Tempted to do the same:monkey:
I highly recommend you do :tonguewink:
I wasn't sure about the weave pattern at first but once fitted in daylight I love them! Gear knob insert will finish it off nicely along with red decals :yum:

looks like my car. Same milage. Same mods (sort of) apart from mine is a 172 :tongueout:
Haha ditto! I couldn't believe the 50k mileage of mine. As I said in my first post I Racing Blue was my first choice of colour but once I viewed this I would have been absolutely stupid to walk away from it!

Can you send me the link or let me know where you got your led bulbs from. They look great. Have you got a picture with them working? Do they make a difference?

All my LED bulbs are CREE. The reverse bulbs are brilliant!

I wouldn't recommend the sidelights however. They are fantastic in terms of the light they produce but I no longer use them. Main reason is because they are a difficult fit into the bulb's holder, I've lost one twice inside one of the headlights. So now I'm not using any sidelights at all except for the regular bulbs come MOT. Check out what other folks have over these in my opinion.

I cant remember exactly but I think 110-125? Also, he did the £50 deposit and exchange deal so zero car downtime. This can depend if he has a wheel in stock obviously. Just make sure you give him very exact instructions or a pic to follow, like I said, only two weeks total! The best money I have spent on any car, literally changes how driving feels. Either him or snappy though looks like snappys are thinner diameter overall. My CC buttons do not click any more but work easily and correctly. I changed it over myself and apart from the obscenely strong spring clips holding the airbag in it was easy enough. Make sure the airbag and cc cables are clipped in fully when replacing.

Thanks mate, reason I asked is because he was quoting me more, although im having mine done in Alcantara but am delivering and collecting it myself. I dont know why he is charging for rebuilding thumbs as they are in perfect condition.
Order:

Clio 182 - Thicker, thumbs re-built, black alcantara 9040 + black centre stripe at 12 -clock, grey 415 stitching.

Price:
140GBP + 15GBP fitting if required

I think its to do with removing the original "thumb" construction and building something to support the new material or just adding padding so its smooth under the final layer. I think the postage on mine was about that (to Edinburgh). Hope it goes quickly, I still appreciate mine every drive.

Next update coming soon :)

This week thanks to the family mechanic the car is getting treated to an overhaul of the brakes, namely mintex 1114 pads up front and brembos for the rear along with ATE supergold fluid! Second is the belated fitting of the Eibach Sportlines I purchased before Christmas. Super excited to see how these changes will improve the car!

Next I'll be getting a full alignment done along with a refurbishment of my 182 alloys. Their paint currently is just quite flat & lacks luster, a respray will make certainly make them pop again [emoji16] After that besides an enhancement detail with my DAS pro to bring out the best of what black gold has to offer I just plan to keep it clean and enjoy driving it [emoji41]

Hey all! Quite a few changes since my last proper update. I decided wasn't 100% happy with the previous carbon dipped interior trim I had so I opted to get my previous standard trim done by the guys at GTD Hydrographics, big thanks to @-Danman- ! Went for their true carbon weave finish and it is absolutely superb. Exactly the high quality look I wanted to begin with! I added my own airbag, gear knob and wheel insert stickers from @Ady182 to complete them. At the same time I ordered new interior mats that have red trim and the Renault Sport logo.

I also got my steering wheel refurbished by @snappy - went for perforated thumb grips and bottom section with a red ring on the top.

Finally got round to getting the Eibach Sportline springs fitted I purchased a few months ago along with an upgrade of the car's brakes thanks to @G 172  This included new pads going for Mintex 1114 pads up front, brembos for the rear and changing the fluid with ATE supergold. Fantastic difference made with this changes! Snapped a few photos when out for a spirited drive on a chilled Saturday afternoon :grinning:

Looking good Gavin! Will be needing to change the brakes in mine once I'm home again so may have to give @G 172 a shout!
Hopefully I'll see you about if I get home at Easter?

Car is looking well Gavin I'm loving the interior! I've just about broke myself with buying mine at the minute so ye biggish mods I want will have to wait! I'm def thinking a steering wheel refurb is a must! Are you local to me?

March 2015 #2
I collected the car from Alloy Wheel Repair Lisburn after leaving her in to have all four wheels refurbished. I opted to have them painted Honda Cosmic Grey after much indecisiveness looking through other colour options on the forum (shop couldn't paint them with IXELL 205-110 as they only use solvent based paints, I wanted to use them still however because I know their work is of a high standard). Very happy with the way they turned out! I'll get better photos of them uploaded soon. So I got the car back saturday morning in time to head out for a run with a couple of local Northern Ireland Renault Sport owners on the sunday. Meet was organised by Reallymeansounds in cooperation with Kerrs Tyres. Sun was beaming, free BBQ on the go and fantastic cars turned up. BMW M4, Audi RS6 to name a few... What more could you ask for?! Fantastic day out:up:

looks great mate, nice to see a really clean genuine example
Thanks lad :grinning: Keeping her nice and OEM is my intention. Next job on the to-do list is giving the paint work a thorough going over with my DA polisher and the Auto Finesse Revitalise system. Just struggling to find the time with working full time, studying an MSc part time and getting out with friends.
