The daily driver... E36 328i Sport

  DC2 TypeR / E36 328i
476 WTF! I'm getting 330 at the absolute most. Jealous of the ambers TBH.

Actually I got 365 miles once. Never been able to get anywhere near it since. Regularly 300ish. FML.

I wouldn't worry, I just replied to his other thread with the same :clown:

Usually work from full until the light comes on, so 52L. Does me for about 300-320mi, on a 200k engine. Works out approx 30mpg. I'm on the 3.15 diff though, so RPMs are higher.

My OBC shows 27-29mpg. When I work it out of actual miles to litres its 30mpg. Technology back then was sh*t lol.

Lol!

Well mine just went to 420 this morning, petrol light not on yet!

Started ruining it at the weekend ;)

The rear battery location came good too when resurrecting the teg (Which I then had to get a new battery for anyway)

Sorry but 420 miles! Mine once indicated 440 remaining after 50 miles on the motorway but still, 420 is eco diesel warrior territory.

You can get orange lamin-x now, might have been easier to apply!

Already had the paint so no bother :)

Are you on Instagram? I'm sure I stumbled on your profile the other day but forgot to follow...

Mine showed 583+ miles remaining after filling up last time! Kerrraazzzyyyy :) Who needs a diesel..

My average this tank has dropped down to about 36mpg after this weekend :(

Updates time.

Attempting to change suspension bolts saw me snapping bolts left right and center. Luckily, the E36 oracle (Jord) had two front hubs spare. So a trip to Warrington-ish on Monday night gave me all the parts I needed to get it done.

After a week of commuting in the DC2 I woke up Saturday morning and got busy.

Then an awesome gift turned up. My best mate sent me this from down south.

Didn't take many pics after that. It turned out those bolts that snapped were camber bolts. Clearly not high tensile though as they couldn't have been more than a year or so old.

I went out and got some pics yesterday to showcase it all done. VERY very very very happy with how it looks now :)

Bright and early Sunday morning to give it a good clean.

Driving to work this morning felt AWESOME. (Apart from the tyres scrubbing slightly but that will be fixed with smaller tyres on Wednesday!)

C+C welcome

Think they both look fab, can't help think they would look better with the spoiler back on.

Thanks mate.

Kinda just ordered some Nankang NS2 tyres for it... £38 a tyre and the oracle rates them. Going against everything I believe in here, but the Vredesteins I want don't come in 205/40.

Did I just see "Nankang" and "rate" in the same sentence?

Joms are shocking too. Car looks lovely though.

I'm seriously impressed with the JOMs...

Lol.. Maybe against the old tired bmw stuff on there. Give it a few weeks and they'll start to disintegrate. Or bend as they did on both my mates golf and my bora. Makes for good camber though..lol

Hmm not sure. I've experienced many coilover kits and this is the first time I've used a 'budget' brand.

The ride is very near OEM, exactly what I wanted. Haven't tested their performance yet though.

They are alright for cheapys, put any sort of proper use through them and they just get worse. Mate had a set on his E36, and I have HSDs on mine (so £190 vs £800), swapped cars for a drive and there is a MASSIVE difference, but so there should be for the price. Difference is how they ride over bumps and how the damping works obviously, but for road the JOMs are fine tbh.

I find mine fine for road use, bit crashy but nothing like some of the budget coilovers I've used in the past. They're fine for the money you pay if you just want to go a bit lower. Will be upgrading to HSD's in the future, however.

My JOMs have lasted a year so far, fine for normal everyday driving. Also have a full set of Nankangs and I'm not dead yet.

Looks great, Dan. How easy were the top mounts? Mine are utterly fucked and need swapping out, anything to look out for/replace at the same time?

Piece of piss to change on coilovers mate! Just take the shock out and undo the top 2 bolts...

Be careful with the bolts that connect the shock to the hub though lol...

BTW I'm scrubbing like f**k on 245 tyres and 15mm spacers! Will be going down to 225s on the rear soon.

Looks like it might already be a Z3?

That was mine before it was fitted. Great mod but do get some slight grinding at times, mostly when going into 5th.

Dan, do you mean just whip the top nut off the strut and pull the mount off?

Mine was like that on the old clutch, its never done it since I've changed to the SMF!

Not sure what it is, but its good!

Yeah, there will be two top nuts - remove them and the mount just pulls away.

Lemforder ones are £20ish from GSF! (BMW OEM)

I thought mine was on OEM with lowered springs! Took the wheels off to clean them up and it appears I'm on these JOMs too! Had coilies on an Ibiza Gti a fw years ago and they were terrible, vowed to never get coilovers again.

These JOMS are great for the money and comfy for coilovers. Thumbs up.
DanielJames - what spacers are you using and tyre sizes? I'm gonna get spacers but unsure on 7 or 10mm. 15 look a bit much from what I've seen.

I run 15mm which is too big unless you run smaller tyres or roll your arches. I now have 225/45 rears and 205/40 fronts and get no scrubbing.

Cool. think I'm gonna got for 10's all round with 225/45 rear and 215/45 fronts.

did you just get ones off that MTEC shop on ebay? Can you get longer locking nuts or are locking nuts as much use as a chocolate teapot these days?

That will be fine, I wouldn't go for 205/40 like I did. Way too small.

I got them from MTEC yeah, they aren't lockers, but as you say lockers don't seem that important these days - more of a hindrance when they break.

The BBS wheels have that fancy locking center cap anyway, thats enough IMO.

Do you use a tool to get the centre caps off on the BBS? Mine are genuine and I just twist em off by hand.

yeah I have 40 profile on now and they're dead uncomfy and hard. 45 should make it a bit better.
