The daily driver... E36 328i Sport

62L tanks, fuel light comes on at about 8L to go. Probably get a tiny bit more in the filler neck too.

Looking clean, although the carpet looked clean enough to me beforehand haha.

Well I took the car out tonight to get some pictures to use in a For Sale advert. I've been lusting over an E46 M3 for the past few weeks, and with insurance renewal time coming up I need to make a decision fast.

After seeing the pics from today though, I'm really in two minds about what to do.

I didn't really know where I was in this pics, I just went hunting for nice locations. Being in Yorkshire, that's never too hard a search ;)

I think the problem with selling it is because it means that much, to me being a manual sport in Techno Violet. Even if someone offered me 3 grand I'd have a very hard time accepting it. I don't think I would, actually.

If I keep it, I'll have to get some paint done. The bootlid as you can see in a couple of pics isn't in a brilliant way, and after 165k the front end could do with a refresh.

I'll also need to get Evo top mounts and some 330i brakes for the front. The difference in camber front to rear is pretty bad!

Who knows what will happen. There isn't an M3 out there that really shouts at me though. Nothing like the 328i did when it came up for sale on here. I guess I'll just have to wait for that day to come, but I fear the decision won't be any easier to make.

I think the colour is stunning, looks really good and it'd be a shame to let it go...

Unless it was for the perfect M3 ;)

I know how you feel, sucks having to wait for the right car! :(
It's like hell, lol!

I've calmed down a bit from the initial "OMG I WANT AN M3" hype I had the past couple of weeks. After all, it took me 2 years to get the perfect E36 lol.

Looks awesome tbh.

E46 M3's don't do a massive amount for me. What you have in that 328i is lovely, I know I'd think long and hard about getting rid.

Completely stunning!!
If you can't find a perfect M3, could you convert that with an M3 engine?

There are some out there with S50s and S54s in them, but you will need to pretty much just buy a full M3 to do the conversion as you need the engine, axles, box, wiring etc.

It would be cool, but you'd lose so much money.

Looks awesome tbh.

Thanks mate. I've always had a feeling for an E46 M3, ever since I had my 320d. It's just an itch that needs scratching - although it's not going to be a cheap itch :\

Does look great that. I'd swap for an estoril blue m3 mind

Estoril blue with the silver or tan leather would be epic.

Looks great Dan!

Cheers pal! More mileage than your 172? :rasp:

F'n love that, well in mate.

Thanks mate.

Need this in my life! Actually stunning.

Haha thanks, sell the shitbox GSi and get one.

Looks awesome. Just needs some body work by the looks of things?

Aye, the bootlid needs doing, and the front arch is starting to bubble. Not a massive amount of work, but I think if I kept it I'd want to get a full respray done.

The plan now is my mate is going to take the car from me. He'll be giving me enough for it, but still quite cheap IMO. As he only lives 5 minutes down the road I'll never be too far from the car, and I'll make him sign a contract (that wont be worth the paper it's written on but he doesn't need to know) that means I get first refusal/can buy it back any time I want :rasp:.

Currently in contact about 2 M3s, a Techno Violet one and a Silver Grey with Cinnamon interior.

  DC2 TypeR / E36 328i
Haha trouble is finding one! Would sell it for yours and only 1 other I've seen. The rest for sale are rough.

That's the problem.

For example I thought I'd stick the car on the M3cutters forum for a possible PX and they made me state a price... easy, I stated £3k.

That caused a bit of an uproar lol. Problem is a rare enthusiasts car like this is worth whatever someone is willing to pay, and whatever the idiot who's fallen in love with an old BMW (me) would sell it for.

I don't care if your mate just picked up a "mint" E36 M3 for 3.5k :banghead:

Mine's not 'mint' (to use a horrible chav phrase), but there are some real sheds out there. The sills on mine are perfect, the arches barely show their age compared to most. The wheels aren't falling to bits, the interior doesn't have some s**tty analog clock in place of the OBC. It has the proper steering wheel, and climate control with working air con. The engine hasn't used a drop of oil in the 16,000 miles I've done. It doesn't have tatty black leather. The cooling system works perfectly. The rocker cover gasket has been replaced with BMW parts, along with new plugs etc. The gearbox doesn't sag like a Wakefield girl's minge. It has the M50 inlet and M3 LSD, crucial OEM mods. It has good tyres with plenty of tread, not Nankang NS2s (Believe it or not, I'm seeing M3s with these f**king tyres). Manual gearbox with a clutch less than 2 years old.

Ah well. I guess that's what happens when you can get SMG M3 convertibles for £6.5k.

Mines getting detailed after nurburgring. Can't wait, makes such a difference.

You need that front splitter bud!

So tempted to get an m50 plus remap for mine too.

See I would say 3k was fairly priced. The last one I seen that would of been worth buying, went for around 3k as well and it was just a silver one with black leather. Nothing fancy about it.

I would of happily give you 3k.

I wouldn't like to see the condition of a e36 m3 that was only 3.5k lol.

My sister's fella has a really really good nick P reg M3 Evo - silver, no rust, totally standard, cloth vaders, conti sports all round. He paid £6k a year or two ago.

328 Sports are £2,500+ and M3 I'd say £5,000+ for decent nick ones. These facebook groups are deluded, but you can pick one up on there for sub £2k but you get what you pay for.

Best thing I've done to mine so far is polybushes and 4 wheel alignment. Feels like a 7 year old rather than 17 year old car again.

Yeah the Evo Splitter makes a huge difference.

I'd highly recommend the M50!

Exactly. These guys are nuts man.

Or maybe we're the nuts ones :rasp: though I'm happy to be the nuts ones with the better cars

Yeah mine has a few polybushes. Anti Roll bar and lower front wishbones. Love the way they drive.

I went to get a 4WA done but the gauges wouldn't fit over my tyres as it was too low. Never mind. It looks too damn good to raise up.

That was for sale on BMW owner for £2100 a few months ago. Just goes to show eh!

I wouldn't say that's an overly desirable colour either.

Same with mine, no one could align it as mines as low as yours. Take it to drury lane on Manchester he knows Bmws inside out and can align them when they're like ours too. 140 quid mine as bolts were seized. Saves money on tyres and feels much more nimble.

Yeah not a big fan of the colour, but its list of receipts/the way its been looked after sounds impressive.

There's a guy in Wakefield who can do the same, just haven't got around to it yet. Wouldn't want to pay that much though! I only paid £95 for a full track setup on my DC2 lol.

It's a bit like this E46 M3 I've seen. The colour combo isn't my favourite but the receipts etc for work it's had is too impressive.

Yeah didn't think it'd be that much but I was there for a god 2.5 - 3 hrs!

Another lad on here from Manc (got an MX5 now) pointed me in their direction and had same price. Cos they're so old the adjusters were all seized. Defo worht it though, it drove cr@p on 40 profile tyres before all out of alignment and tired bushes.

That's him!

No seriously though, Drury Lane are brilliant. I know you come over this way sometimes, I was at Jord's getting my bushes pressed into the lollipops and you were on your way over for a hub or something.

Isn't the M3 LSD harsh on the motorway miles? Would love to check out the diff in feel between mine and yours with M50 + LSD.

Just got back in the EP3 after 6 months being SORN'd - you'll be able to relate to this with a DC2 but how different are these cars!?

VTEC feels mental after the lazy 6 cyl.

I would pay 3k for this rather than a shed at £1800 that needs tyres, wheel refurb, sagging seats et etc.
