Track phase 182

So the clio passed it's MOT yesterday! Which is good! It was also my 21st birthday so happy days!

The rear brakes were showing about 28kgs of effort, and 1 kg less with the bias valve reduced... So one point the bias valve does s**t alll haha

Second point the rears still lock up.. So I'm going to use the pressure reducers on a mk4 fiesta and put a couple of the inline to the rear brakes. This should hopefully sort it, aswell as obviously buying a working bias valve (my one wasn't even a bad make - OBP i think

So those who remember I had problems with the fuel tank in my ph1, well I got a bit drill happy.

Turns out the previous owner of the shell did aswell, and there is also a hole in the top of this tank [emoji85] [emoji36] This was only apparent after the MOT when I filled up half a tank where I was driving home and the rear bench started to fill up with fuel the pump was totally dry so I was very confused... So got it back had a little feel ontop of the tank and yep could feel a small little 6mm hole..

So that night meant draining £30 quids worth of fuel while loosing about £10 worth on the way home haha

The next morning meant getting the car up nice and high ready to remove the fuel tank.

First off, the rear axle. Nice and easy this time as all the bolts were replaced last time so was easy off.. Annoyingly I have only just bled the brakes so this means I'll have to buy another tin of fluid. hey ho

Just had to undo the exhaust and remove the back box.

Ta daaah, one fucked fuel tank.

Please enjoy the solid exhaust mounts proper good quality stuff that.

Yep £100 [emoji16] gonna buy some ford pressure reducers and remove the compensator valve, then see how that goes... If not I'll remove the OBP and replace with a tilton one I think...

Explains why the tilton ones are double the price
Buy cheap buy twice though I suppose. You need to read up on the specs to be 100% sure that it will do what you need.

@Ph1 Tom did something similar to this and was successful.

How bad is it whilst driving. What pads are you running on rear

Pretty bad, say if you're in a situation where the lights change to red, and you've got to put the brakes on pretty firmly, well if i over cook it they lock up, they used to lock up for fun before i put the bias valve in and made up my lines, so must of done something...

standard i think, nothing special.

Wilwood. But I would say it's similar to yours. Apparently it does 0-57% and from 100-1000 psi.

Yeah tbh a lot of people have positive reviews with the same set up using Wilwood, I think mine was maybe a cheap copy I'm trying to think where i bought it from.
So yeah might just buy another bias valve, and then if that doesn't work we can point the finger at the compensator etc

  Clio 172
I know plenty of people using Wilwood and ap bias valves on other vehicles with no problems. The only bad bias valve I have heard of is the compbrake.

  Clio 172
Lol. The type in that link does look exactly like the ones compbrake supply. Do you know of
Any one that has a working one lying around. Just so you can eliminate that. I bought my Wilwood one off demon tweaks

I don't, well i know loads of people with them installed haha, but bit of a ball ache to borrow a bias valvee ;)

Yep they look cheapest.

Was that without a bias valve?
Yep just sourced some pressure reducers cheap! so will get them installed tomorrow if they arrive..

Not an exciting update, but had some sleeved spacers made up to suit the m12 thread on the asts to work with the PMS top mounts.

as you can see the old ones ID was m16 and slipped over the ridge so meant when fitting the top threaded sleeve nut wouldn't clamp down on the bearing (2nd picture down)

Tonight after work, I'm gonna get the flood light out and make up some new brakes lines which included the pressure reducers in as stated above! and bleed the brakes. Then I'm going to drive it to work Saturday woo

So Fuel tank back in, rear axle, etc etc

So last job to sort was the brakes, lines made, brakes bled, car down and wheels torqued up.

216c2f42e46d099e3bea82a6a7b52e3d.jpg

Excitedly took it for a drive, put my foot on the brakes hard... STILL LOCKING UP ON THE REARS [emoji36] [emoji36] [emoji36] [emoji36] [emoji36] [emoji36] [emoji35] [emoji35]

Sooooooo.... I put two reducers inline and still nothing tbh, made no difference really at all!

This looks like I will be ordering a Wilwood brake bias asap.

Let me know how you get on once the Wilwood is fitted

I think you're looking in the wrong direction with the hydraulic side of the rear brakes
If the rear wheels only recorded 28kgf on the MoT (presumably not locking) there's no way they should be locking when driving,
I would be looking at how the cars load transfer is either drastically unloading the rear axle and the rear wheels are genuinely only
needing 28kgf to lock, Or
how the handbrake cables are routed and pulling the cables tight as the axle drops away from the body easing the brake on,
Is the rear axle running lots of negative camber and the tyres are running on a very narrow band of the inside edge, did the tyre fitter put 50 psi in the rear tyres because he was to busy texting his mate?

I was thinking along the lines of above regarding the handbrake cables.
Can't remember if you still have them fitted but depending on where you relocated your handbrake too the cable might be getting stuck somewhere and jamming the brakes on.
Could go for a drive with them disconnected from the caliper.

it will lock if handbrake is connected or not,

The tyre pressure are good and not s**t tyres direzzas.

I've had 2 sets of suspension on the car and it has been doing the same thing over both (ghas and asts)

I have changed the height of the car around varying different levels of rake and lower on the rear.

Do you reckon the rear brake lines coming out of one port is causing to much pressure being exerted on the rear lines?

But I know what you mean as I think on the last MOT is was pulling 14kg, so could the rear compensator be f**king it up?

I thought you'd done away with the rear compensator??

Thanks dude, but I ideally want to get rid of bits not add more on :) Will give the suggestions above a go, then go from there. :)

Guess what lads...

Still no f**king difference! (the compensator valve is out)

So yeah next steps:
- Have the 2 rear lines coming out to MC then T piece is back down to 1 line, logically it makes sense that there will be more pressure if 1 line is blocked off rather having 2 lines
or
- Buy a decent bias valve that actually works rather than changes the bias by 1 kg.

Anyway the car got its first wash in probably 5 years today. Didn't even dry it off, race car yo and all that s**t.

Daily got some loving too... ish.. no wash though
