Still loving that VW life 😵

It's just clocked over 160k. Flew through the MOT, and still giving over 700 miles to a tank.

Keep thinking I might map the Golf, then I punch myself in the face to remind myself how stupid that would be for what is just my OH's daily driver and get on with my day.

I purchased another 7.5 GTI back in March, this time in Tungsten Silver.

Had the car checked over by Awesome and had them do a full service including the DSG gearbox. PS5's fitted to the front also (PS4's on the back with plenty of tread still).

I was back at Awesome on Friday to have some Eibach springs fitted, along with spacers and a TCR backbox. It really had livened the car up with no compromise to the ride quality. The exhaust had added a little bit more character now too, but still sounds OEM when pootling around at low revs.

Looked smart this on Saturday. What did awesome charge for the springs fitted? Which did you go for?

Thanks Dan! I can't remember the exact price they charged. I had the exhaust and tyres swapped along with a service done at the same time.

The springs are Eibach Pro's. Tweeks are still by far the cheapest place for them (bizarre I know..)

The Skoda looked just as good in the flesh, someones getting a cracking all round motor(y)

My old estate has ended up on AT, perhaps they have finally got to the bottom of the fault which I had with it. However I’d be pretty dubious buying it as it’s a private sale now so comebacks would be quite difficult.

My father is looking at a used Octavia VRS 245 petrol auto, with black pack. Anything to be aware of?

Thermostat housing issues. Check no coolant leaks from front of engine and coolant level is right.
Maybe uneven rear tyre wear but that's about it really. Also that heaters blow hot (sometimes heater matrix gets blocked when the silica bag splits in the coolant bottle)

I had wheel bearing issues when I test drove mine. Usual howling noise at 70ish, and obviously the garage didn't bother test driving it and then told me there was nothing wrong lol. It got fixed in the end. Worth noting that the car was only on 24k miles and 3.5 years old, fairly premature failure IMO.

Oh yes good point. Mine did too at 25k. I think it was more the way the previous driver used it as 3 of the 4 wheels were buckled too.

Which wheel bearing, front/rear, left/right?

Also is this a Skoda issue or a wider VAG issue?

Front passenger - so most likely been driving over grids and puddles and the like. Which also explains the buckled alloy(s).

They're not prone to going I'd say, but they're not as robust as other car manufacturers by the sound of it. End of the day it's wear and tear, however, they did fix it under warranty. Would expect them to last a bit longer however, regardless of how hard a life it's had. Not had any issues since.

Have a look at service history as well. A lot of people (judging by posts on Briskoda) run these on long life services when they really shouldn’t be. There are constant posts about what actually needs done as well, nobody seems to have a clue.

Depending on mileage, DSG should be serviced every 40K miles as well (iirc).

Also a good point about the servicing. There's lots of chat out there about which oil to run, from what I have read, the 245 should run the 0w20 but some dealers out there seem to use 5w30 instead. I had some comms with VW in Perth regarding this and they were insistent on 5w30. Bit of a minefield.

I have a Skoda Service pack for the next 2 years, but do my own oil change in between using the 0w20.

Full history, loads of bills. Previous owner had it 11 years.

Need to get an mot on it, will be this week hopefully. I've owned the car 6 months and love it. Great on fuel and never let me down.

If the chap in work doesn't for any reason want it I will get all the work done and list after Xmas. He's been after buying and selling it on for a while.

Spent an hour and half giving the inlet throttle valve a little spruce.

The car now drives faultlessly. Took the car out for a long drive so it got up to temp, mixture of average road speeds and then duel carriage way and motorway. Turned the car off before returning home and it turned off clean with no judder at all. Rescanned the car, no codes whatsoever and then fired it up to return home. Quite a simple job, shame my hands dont illustrate that lol.
