You're lapping it up!

Now you've put a few miles on it, how does it compare to the 350?

The car is pretty much used 7 days a week, and I've done around 1,200 miles in it.

Performance
Before the Z I had an Audi TT225 (remapped), that felt quick but the lag was a killer. This has very minimal lag, it doesn't matter what gear I'm in it just pulls. I've tried a handful of 0-60 runs for my own amusement, and managed to exceed book figures (even 2 up). It never 'feels' fast, as you feel safe plus the cabin is quiet with little road noise.

Comparing to the Z the gear changes/clutch is so smooth, silky smooth. It's enjoyable to drive as I'm not having to put my bodyweight into my left foot.

It's not as loud as the Z, and I miss the V6 sound, but the exhaust note is very nice (one of the reasons I went for the 335i over the 330i I test drove). Once you boot it, it opens up, and that sound is addictive.

Comfort/Ride
Yes run flat tyres are bloody hard, as is the MSport suspension, but it's not a huge difference to the Z. The comfy seats make up for it. Everything feels so solid and very TT like.

Style
I prefer the 335i over the Z. The Z was rarer on the road (I'd see 1-2 a week), as opposed to the BM I see 4-5 a day (albeit not a 335i).

Gadgets/Equipment
Well this has everything. The thing I miss which the Z had, is heated seats. I didn't even realise I didn't have them until a few days after buying. I was surprised, considering every extra was added otherwise.

I love the iDrive and iPhone connect, memory seats, welcome/home lights and handsfree. It's surprising what you need.

Running costs
They are higher. Insurance is about the same, I've got extended BMW warranty which is £60pm, tax is double the Z (£270/£460), MPG is slightly worse daily (24/25 compared to 26/27). Servicing no doubt will be more, but I've got another 9k miles.

Would I own another Z? No. It was enjoyable, but overall it was too basic inside and felt very cheap. The 335i feels like a nice place to be, even when tootling along with the other rep-mobiles on the way to work.

Town around 27, long A roads/Motorway 32/34.

OBC reads average 29.7 since last fillup 210 miles ago, with just under half a tank left.

Massive improvement over the 350z.

Currently reading 25mpg over 600 miles iirc.

Very nice I think the black complements the dark grey colour, shadow chrome would continue the "shiny" bodywork tho nicely. These mod very well even a nice air intake system would sound amazing and any warranty work needed you can swap it back! I'm currently looking into the extended warranty on mine as its just run out so no modding for me either! well maybe!

I'm baffled as to why the majority of the forum classes your black wheels on a BMW as awesome and my black wheels on a BMW as chavvy... However i still think it looks really smart. I'd love an e92/3 but it's not going to happen any time soon!

I think this car is stunning! In those last pics it looks so evil and "don't mess" !!

Any more plans or just enjoy it as is?

Looks superb CJ. Even those wheels in Silver would be stunning but works well with the colour of the car.

Lovely machine, i'm sure it covers ground in crazy fashion!

Your thoughts on the 330i coupe? Assuming it would have felt fairly pedestrian compared to the 335i?

I drove one Dave...

They go very well, they're not 'that' much down on power compared to the 335i just lack the torque. So if you're happy to rev it you;ll be happy.

I've not driven an R32 but I'd imagine that would be similar. The ED engine has even more power and better fuel economy but that's the engine that throws injectors etc etc for fun.

No plans at all yet. I'm happy with it as it is.

The 330i is a great car. The one I drove was an SE, so felt like an old mans car (I was never going to get an SE). The power was enough, but it didn't excite me (maybe the lack of noise compared to the 350z).

Once I saw the 335 and heard it on tickover, I knew what I wanted. It's effortless quick, and just pulls. I've read the mpg isn't much worse in the 335, only the tax is double. Insurance is £15 a year more than the 350z with 'mods' declared.

Thanks mate, I'm really enjoying it. Nice place to be.

A little update today.

Recently, the car has had a rattle coming from the front (usually from cold, while de-accelerating). Also from cold, there's sometimes a hesitation under hard acceleration. Thought maybe coil/spark.

Dropped it off at BMW 8am, just had a phone call.

Wastegate rattle, which means two turbos need replacing.
HPFP is failing too.

No idea on cost, maybe £3/4k? Under warranty, so should be fine.

I've been looking at these recently, a lot!

It seems like some sort of warranty is essential going by your last post though..
It seems that with basic mods: duel cone intake, catless downpipes and a jb4 map they produce silly power. Tempted doesn't quite cut it

DB.

Thank god that had warranty on it. How long have you got left on the warranty?

Two fresh new turbos, not bad.

£4k minimum from what I've read on PH!

Odd that I was reading this thread ready to ask if it had been reliable lol.

I wouldn't have bought one without warranty. Not worth the risk.

Just gave the go ahead on the brakes. Thanks for the 'free checkup'.

New tyre last week at £301. Bloody expensive 2 months of ownership.

If BMW are like Merc they tried to get my dad to change his pads/discs with about half their life left.

Very! You be mental boi! Yes i'll decide when I come to see the car if the discs need replaced.

So what exactly are they replacing for nearly £1000?

True, but I'm not 100% sure if warranty would be affected?! Can't risk it, plus mine seemed fine (even though below min).

Nope, I assume/trust they won't f**k me over?! Naive?

A bit. Ask them to see the brakes.

Its bills like that that make me glad I have poverty spec brakes!

The guy scared me into it, tbh.

"If you decide against having the brakes done today, you will need to sign an agreement, that we're not liable should any problems arise from your brakes blah blah blah"

With this claim now hanging, I didn't want the risk.

So what exactly are they replacing for nearly £1000?

Discs/pads. That's it.
