I would NEVER trust anyone telling me my brakes needed renewing without first seeing for myself. One of the oldest tricks in the book. So many places try this on, it's unreal.

Great minds Dave. I just priced it all up on GSF. £280 using premium parts and new wear sensors.

That was based on the reg of a 2009 335i sport.

Ive just replaced the front brakes on my partners 1 series.

BMW wanted £440, i replaced the discs/pads and sensor myself with pagid items for £103 from ECP.....

Get the car back, sign their disclaimer, buy the parts yourself (from ECP/GSF/Cotswold BMW or anything of the other dealers that do discount) then get someone to fit them for you!!!

Is that using the -25% code thats usually floating around as well? Fitting would be peanuts though, not exactly rocket science to change discs/pads, so just find a local member with a toolkit/brain and give them some beer, or find a specialist.

I've just checked and i got my initial price wrong. Going back through it all again using "premium" parts and theyre current discount offer -

Thats the thing with BMW's they are pricey to maintain at the main dealers, but for DIYer's parts are easily available from ECP/GSF. Much easier to work on than VAG's as well in my experience!!

Local garage have priced the Pagid discs/pads/sensors/shoes at £615 all in.

What's the ECP codes you're using? Are the Pagid as good/OK compared to the ones BMW would have fitted today?

Also, if your pads were as knackered as BMW say, your brake pad warning light would have come on!!

Thank god you didn't have them do the brakes, for a start, shoes on a relatively new car? Are you having a laugh? Sensors? It they're the removable type then if the brake warning light isn't on there's no chance you'd need new ones. Scum bags

In fact that is a point Rob, if the brakes needed changing... surely they'd have a broken sensor and therefore a warning light on the dashboard?

I know for a fact the pads had 17k and 45k on the dash when I last checked (2 weeks ago).

They told me today the pads were new-ish, but the discs were below minimum.

​Maybe the previous owner changed just the pads? AKAIK the sensor only monitors the pads?

Theyre starting to sound like expensive cars to own! I'm after a new car at the moment and thought the 335i fit the bill but I'm having second thoughts.. Just worked out how many miles I've done in the z4 over the past 12 months, 2500 miles!

I've been looking at these recently, a lot!

It seems like some sort of warranty is essential going by your last post though..
It seems that with basic mods: duel cone intake, catless downpipes and a jb4 map they produce silly power. Tempted doesn't quite cut it

But doing all those mods make your warranty worthless!

Glad I got mine warrantied rather than mapped.. It's quick enough as is.

On another note, BMW warranty is one of the best as is their aftermarket, this is from a guy who has done warranty work for over 35 years now, almost retired. Barring LandRover, the BMWs are the worst for reliability.

The reason people don't see it is because they sort the issues quickly and quietly. He also did warranty for BMW before working for Warranty Direct iirc and he says they have easily the most claims per marque per year. Food for thought.

Newer BMW's do get slated for there reliabilty. I think its just the case there's so many of them on the road.
