I took this off when I took the aftermarket steering wheel off, and have no use for it, I have a feeling it may go with the Boss kit that I am selling and if it is, I need to include this, if not, what is it?
Lucky you. I bought an 06 so I get raped for £475. Pre-06 is £270.
Everything else you say is right. Brilliant soundtrack, good handling and ride quality, tons of grip, quite the hooligan, but comfy enough to demolish countries on the motorway. Love the torque, 5th gear from 25 mph onwards just...
Different type of car, but a hell of a lot better in every way TBH. It goes and corners faster, looks better, is RWD, mine is convertible, and it makes a nice noise. Even more toys too.
Not joking. Yes the one I bought was not the best but even the 182 I had before it, luckily, was under...
I bet my 350Z costs less to run this year than my 172 did in the 3 months I had, and subsequently got sick of fixing before I traded it in. And that's even factoring in the 25 or less MPG.
Even if it was reliable, don't kid yourself about best car for the money either.
I'm looking at E36 M3 as my expenditure on my 172 is pretty close but being a 172 and not an me makes it much harder to take. I still pretty big bills there though, made me think.
I bought this over an impreza thinking it would be a cheap car to buy and run.
£1,400 on the car - X-plate 172.
£600 on insurance.
Changed the 17s for 16s - Cost me about £360 after buying 4 tyres and selling the 17s.
Exhaust needed replacing - £180 (got a very good deal on this - brand new...
Mine...
2000 Phase 1 172, silver. 79000 miles. 12 months tax, 3 months MOT. Just had belts and dephaser and full service done at 77000 just over 2 months ago at Mickleton Service Station (hutchies garage). 4 good kumho tyres (fitted about 3000 miles ago). 16" OZ F1s, silver side strips...
Personally I think this is good advice.
I turned down the chance of a Phase 1, totally original, in excellent condition, at a good price just because it needed the belts doing within 12 months.
Instead, I picked one, same price, but had the belts done, but not in as good condition. The...
Maybe a lot of people are. But most?
I have mates who could help me with a lot of things, but in all honesty, none of them would have done a cambelt job, or changed an engine.
Sadly, in order to save money, I must ironically have more in the first place, since I'd need a larger property with...
Not everyone has the knowledge / time / facilities to do this though. I know I don't. So the option is unfortunately pay someone else to do it. Which is no doubt why mine cost a lot, but it seems to be the accepted norm that everyone on a car forum is good at or has the time or facilities to do...
My Phase 1 was cutting out when I got it, mechanic said it was the idle cable or something or other wasn't plugged in.
I'd expect most Phase 1's at that price needing a fair bit spending on it.
Mine was £1400. In the 3 months since I've had it, I've ended up replacing the cambelt, dephaser...
Sorry to say, but everyone these days does it, and you, I and everyone else has been paying for it for years.
Think about it as all this extra premium you've been paying, you're staking your claim now.
I agree it sucks, but what can you do, why should an individual be a martyr to a system that...
My old 182 also had more of a kick at 5K than my Phase 1, which TBQH doesn't seem to have any kick at 5K... what the Ph1 does do however, is to start accelerating noticeably quicker once you get it to about 3500 - 4000 RPM... my understanding is this is just when the engine reaches peak...
My Phase 1 sounds a lot more throaty than my old 182 (both standard), I'd definitely say the Phase 1 airbox would be a worthwhile mod IF you can get one cheap.
As for the remap, I want to get this done eventually.
The way I see it is I have a couple of options.
RS Tuner with the map. For...
Had a look at the wires and I assume this looks OK, as in nothing missing? I guess the orange one is the airbag and they never bothered with the horn (wasn't connected to anything).
So I'm guessing any phase 1 steering wheel will fit and its simply a case of remove wheel, remove boss, reattach...
This is why I was thinking of going back to standard, its not clear whether one with an aftermarket wheel will pass. I do fancy a mono race wheel though .
Indeed. Its good that Toyota have made it, but for me, it should have been £20K or just under. At £25-£30K its the same price basically as an S2000, which was better looking, faster and with a better engine.
Right, an attempt at being unbiased here...
I had to make the choice between a Phase 1 and a Cup. I chose the Phase 1. My main reasons were price, prefer the interior on the Phase 1, just as light, cable throttle, better airbox.
However, the Cup arguably looks better, and the cambelt that I...
I'm 33 and much prefer the look of a spoiler on a 197 and 200. It looks naked without it for me.
Some cars suit spoilers, others don't (E36 Coupes for me there, but I'm probably in the minority, MX5s etc).
I'll have a look at lunchtime, as the centre bit of the wheel comes off. I'll post some pics.
Got my eye on this

and this...
I'll have to see I guess - if they've chopped the plugs off though, I think that has pretty much made up my mind for me - I'll just go for another aftermarket one (leather this time).
