Re: James/BigAsh 182 Race Car by TDF... It doesn't get much better than this! *Pic He

If KW actually try to give you the "not for track use" line after they were built to a custom track spec - they need a slap lol
Haha lol! We will see from what Matt said on Friday KW are just going to replace them but we will see what happens :)

Heard it loads of times Phil, even when theres nothing wrong with them if you complain about how they perform they normally just say they're not meant for it.

I'd imagine Matt spends a fair bit with them though!

AST's seem to be very well proven on the burpspeed car, so seem like a safe option.

Big money though of course, but the suspension is the most important part of any race car really so not an area to worry about costs too much (easy for me to say when its not my money, lol).

Yes that is true they are the safe option which is why I have slight reservations about going with a new make to the Clio market but we will see!

Haha yes but you are right, Should of done it from the start but easy to look back in hindsight and its just one of those things that I need to soak up I think! Live and learn, gosh I've said that a lot recently lol!

I use AST's... its not a racecar, but it gets driven very very hard and I am sure it does ALOT more work and tracktime than most racecars. I've had no problem with them so far.

For a racecar I'd be going with these on a budget I think... or if not what Ian at Godspeed has on his Rally car I reckon. Sexy, strong and at the price he paid, pretty good value! Obviously would be different valving and spring ratings to what he runs I presume. Or what about using what the original cupracers used?

Hi Lee :) Yes I can imagine your car does ;) I don't suppose you know what your spring rates are do you?

The one's Ian run are a very good option although Reiger don't specialise in circuit suspension and mainly the rally stuff so not sure how that would affect things. Also having three way suspension would mean lot's of testing and lot's more money to get running well although I'm sure the end result would be good I don't think I can justify/afford at this stage :(

best way to describe cup racer suspension is to fall on a breeze block on your arse multiple times

yeah i thought you had KW competition (cira £3K), using road car stuff on a race car doesn't work!

Will ask Mark, I remember Mark changing the rears totally from what it went to him with. Like double as hard!

Think 800 rings a bell?

Maybe give Mark a call yourself. You couldn't be in any safer hands in my opinion.

dont blame ya mate :(

As this stage... I would have broken the Clio and bought a Honda if I am honest!

Bear in mind when considering rear spring rates that the total rear end roll resistance of the car is a function of both the springs AND the ARB add together essentially.

So given that you dont run an uprated ARB on your car, your spring rates that mark has set will be harder than if you did.

And the relationship in terms of roll resistance front to rear as a ratio will alter the dynamics of the car in terms of whether the front or real is what feels looser.

So copying the spring rates from your car without having the rest of the suspension setup the same, could be a bad move.

I am aware you probably realise all this, but just thought that others reading it might not and might rush out to copy that bit of your spec, as springs are very cheap but your overall suspension solution isnt, lol

Hi pal, I had a good nose around your car on saturday.
The level of preparation is a credit to you. Especially the welds on those seat rails :p

It's a shame you're having suspension issues, but stick with it as it will be worth it.

Nope just V2's and the spring rates are really soft! Must of been bottoming out hence shagged! AST's or Nitron's Fred?

Yes would be a good option but was trying to sort it out a bit more local and low cost but as a few people have said it's not really an area to skimp so will have a think :) Thanks mate!

Haha I am sat on the floor next to the car and you don't know how tempting it is but I have put too much into it and love it too much when it works to break it :(! I have always said I would never sell it and don't normally give in :)

Yeah I was just wondering for a reference from other setups and gauge what everyone has done with regards to them :)

Thank you :) Haha yes all thanks to Stu!

Yes just one of many issues along the way but i'm sure i'll get it sorted! Thanks

p.s Were you racing the blue 106? :)

I actually do have a rear ARB chip. Never been fitted. All yours if you want it for any of your Clio fleet?

Just had a thought, you guy's with wheel bearing trouble, do you all run with the solid rear beam bearings ? The pure motorsport ones.

Lol @ fleet, it is starting to get that way, got bloody four of the things at the moment.

Thanks for the offer mate, but TBH Im not a massive fan of rear end roll resistance on these cars, I know its not very fashionable to say so at the moment what with drifting being the coolest thing in the world etc, lol, but I prefer neutral or even very slightly understeery FWD cars to twitchy rear end oversteery ones most of the time (slow tight corners being only exception really like the hairpin at mallory), especially as that sort of behavior can be introduced with a little trail braking anyway when required.

Looks good mate :) I will watch the first bit later on! I could see in the distance where me and the proton were tussling :)

Indigo - good god your car goes well for a 106. You got a build thread for it anywhere? or any more details?

I agree with Chip on this one. Took my rear ARB off in double quick time as I hated the loose I'm gonna let go and kill you any minute rear end feel. I like a good solid rear end myself :p

i was going to suggest nitron's,
the chaps there are spot on and they are already into development on the meg's, still yet to do anything on the clio's (as i know)

Yes I am dealing with Mark at Nitron at the moment, Could be quite interesting but we will have to see what happens! Will update in two weeks when we have more news on them :)

Yes it certainly could be :) Just got to make sure it's the correct direction to go! The work they do is pretty epic and i'm sure they can produce a really good kit

as said i talked to them a while back, (over 18months ago) but they wanted to develope the meganne first,
was also speaking to Ohlins at the time who were also very much interested,

will keep an eye here to see how you progress

Nitron's would get my vote out of those 2, not a fan of AST's at all! Or you could go to LEDA, bilstein (they made the clio cup stuff for the mk2's) give Black Art Designs a call too and have a chat with them, just install a set onto our E36/46 hybrid - sexy stuff!
