Been trying to get the aircon fired up again as back at work and doing mega mileage as usual.

Had the local aircon specialist gas it up with leak dye a couple of weeks ago, and aircon worked briefly as they added a little bit of refrigerant. Took it back for uv light and they said its the condensor leaking.

The bad news is its a rad pack and condensor combined. £144 delivered seems to be the cheapest i can find :cautious: might bite the bullet as its running well and planning on getting my moneys worth out of it.

Small update

Still waiting for the aircon rad to turn up, at this rate by the time its fixed, i wont need to use it:cautious:

Anyway i fitted a cup holder today. Not the most elegant but should hopefully do the job

Got a flier from work this afternoon, just had to endure a 2 hour teams meeting with 50 of us in it:sleep:

Anyway straight out to fit the new rad and condensor pack. Whipped grill and slam panel off and it was out in ten mins.
20200703_161110.jpg

Black mark shows the leaks on the old condensor.
20200703_171140.jpg

Bolts holding rad fan on were rotten so got the grinder out. New rad fitted, had to re use the old aircon seals, the new oem renault ones were different to the originals, new ones were basically normal o rings and the old ones are about 6mm wide o rings. They did not look bad at all, lubed them up with pag and went in tightly/snug, so fingers crossed they wont leak.

Shiny
20200703_175445.jpg

Booked it in for gas and service 12pm tomorrow so hopefully all goes well.

Took for a test drive and coolant temps are good, usual dci around 83deg, let it idle for 20 mins to see if rad fan would kick in, never went above 87degrees which is typical for these dci's, never heard the rad fan come on before even on a hot day.

I wanted to make sure rad fan was working so hooked up clip. Clip is great for stuff like this, dead easy to do an actuator test.

Reading parameters
20200703_175112.jpg

Tested low and high speed, both working ok.
20200703_175051.jpg

Scanned the diesel injection ecu for faults whilst plugged in. Df134 accelerometer circuit is always intermittently stored and has been since ive got the car. Not sure why and it runs ok with no eml or any other issues. Probably wiring or sensor might replace it one day.

Aircon gassed up and working great. Noticed die leaking around the top fitting on the condensor yesterday so it wont last long. I guess the original seal gamble did not work. Waste of £60 :cautious:

Found the oem seals now so when it runs out of gas will try again

Been all over in the blue clio, trip to London a couple of weeks ago and plenty of miles local ish whilst at work. Aircon still ice cold touch wood, works great.

Oil change time as done 8k since last one. Ten min job with vac pump, invested in a cheap oil filter socket kit as the oil filter is always tight as feck and hard to get off. Worked great, oil filter straight off.
20200711_145759.jpg

Boot microswitch failed so the boot was relocking when opened. Dug one out of the spare parts aka box of shite in the garage. Wires were chopped for some reason so had to swap them from the knackered switch. 20 mins work nice easy fix.

Corroded switch

New one soldered up.

Ac is still working awesome (touch wood) have stayed nice and cool in the current heatwave. No regrets at all spending a small fortune recomissioning it.

My mate was breaking a dci so robbed the front fogs as mine were knackered. Repaired the damaged o/s rear bumper bracket from previous owner damage, tigersealed it back on and refitted so the bumper corner does not pop off anymore.
20200809_114023.jpg

Give it a clean up as was covered in flies and brake dust. Tried out some Bilt hamber autowheel on it, epic.
20200808_192815.jpg

Its no show winner but fits in great in the ghetto and i reckon its paid for itself several times with the great mpg it returns. Great little car.

Cleans up great for a bit of a workhorse @Brigsy glad to see the hard work fixing all the niggles has been paying off. I too have been having difficulty with the A/C on my clio 1st compressor failure during lockdown a month after having the system regassed thankfully I robbed the known good 1 from the car I'm breaking and then just a few days ago noticed dye all over the dryer still working at the moment so touch wood it makes it through the heatwave. Also had to treat some rust in the same place as your Orange DCI wonder how many more are like this.

Both clios still soldiering on, blue one still clocking up loads of miles at work.

Changed oil and filters on the blue one a couple of months back and boshed an airfilter in, old airfilter was black.
20201023_163653.jpg

Clutch started slipping shortly after on hard acceleration, so have limped it for 2 month or so as too busy/couldnt be arsed to do it

Mpg has been going up as slower driving, currently up to 68.3, mixed driving
20201027_152508.jpg

Clutch survived and now off work until 4th Jan so straight in the garage and get it done.
20201205_151118.jpg
20201205_151124.jpg

Gearbox oil came out golden again as expected so have another low mileage jb3 box to fit. Was going too smoothly to be fair, pulled new exedy clutch out to fit and found out gsf have sent the wrong one. So its currently sat in bits until the motorfactors open tomorrow.

Done a few small jobs whilst waiting, freed off caliper sliders, greased up brake pipes, renewed riv nuts on subframe as were spinning.
20201206_120258.jpg

Should see that back together this week hopefully.

Orange clio still grafting away, mot runs out this month and a few small jobs needed, so will sort them and get it in for test.

Stuck a valeo clutch in the blue dci from the local motorfactors. Drives great, the used gearbox is spot on and changes gears good. Have done a couple of thousand miles in it since, no issues.

Orange dci needed a few small jobs doing for mot back in December. Steering rack boot was split, steering rack had a clunk when going from lock to lock so changed it for a used rack that i had in stock. Awful job to do without dropping the subframe.

Also changed a track rod end as boot had split and changed the rear brake cylinder on the n/s as it had started leaking, bled brakes all round with Ate typ200. Had the geometry set up again as miles out after rack change.

The work paid off with a solid mot pass no advisories, mot tester said it will be good for a few more years. Had a nice comment from him, he said that its spot on like all the cars i bring for mot.

Give both of them a mid winter clean last weekend. Bh snowfoam, 2 bucket wash as usual.

Bought some AG Polar seal to try out, for a quick spray top up on the protection as too cold to be messing about.

Orange still cleans up great for 153k.
20210131_164006.jpg

Blue is presentable but well used, perfect for blasting around at work.
20210131_164208.jpg

Beading is impressive of the Polar Seal, no idea how long it will last but great for ease of application in winter.

I remember removing the steering rack from a breaker car I had was a pita, poor access to the 2 mounting bolts because the roll bar is in the way and then the rack was seized to the column, not fun [emoji53] Hats off to you cars are looking great for the age/mileage! Need to sort a few things on mine for the mot mainly D bushes and thermostat as it's sticking open. Wanted to ask you about the A/C seals that you changed a few posts ago and if you have a part number, my A/C gave up during the heatwave and there's all dye around the condenser seals but I can't seem to find them anywhere.

When I swapped the rack on my dCi it was a massive pain in the arse. Bit easier on the 100 though as the starter is at the front so there's less to contend with down the back of the engine. Still pissed me off though 😂

@Conor L i had no joy finding the fat style air con seals so reused my originals. They seem to have swelled up ok after use and a/c is holding gas ok. If yours are shot, theres mk2 megane ac seals on ebay that are very similar and might be the ticket.

Was hearing an intermittent grinding/squeaking this week on the blue dci when braking first thing on a morning. I thought it was a build up of brake dust or poss weeing brake cylinder so pulled the drum off quickly to check today.

N/s was greeted with shoe lining starting to come off on the leading shoe, can see a small gap in the pic on lower edge. No doubt would have failed and locked the drum at some point.
20210227_122303.jpg

Checked cylinder was ok so shot down the motorfactors for new shoes. Usual piss on with springs flying off
20210227_140801.jpg

Got to the o/s and checked the cylinder and the boot was full of fluid. Back down the motorfactors for a cylinder. Old one below
20210227_144055.jpg

No pics of new one fitted, bled up ok, shoes adjusted properly and brakes are sharp, decent improvement.

Ive had a slight rumbling from the back recently which sounded like a dry bearing or on its way. A little bit of pick up on the stub axle on o/s so investigated.

N/s bearing split when removing drum so regreased and looks fine, popped the bearing apart on o/s rear and race is scored/plastic bearing cage is cracked. Motorfactors were closed at this point so getting an snr from euro tomorrow.

Joys of old cars/higher mileage. Cant moan as i do tons of miles in this and its very reliable.

Unfortunately mine are leaking [emoji53] funnily enough I've just seen a post on here about the megane seals so I'll give them ago as I'd like reliable A/C this year!

Had to revisit the rear brakes on the blue dci yesterday. It pains me to have to revisit a fixed job but was getting noise from the passenger rear drum. Took drum off and the brake cylinder was pissing fluid out of the rear piston, typically was dry as a bone when i fitted the shoes on this side and pushing the cylinder back has caused it to fail. On the plus side it was £7 for a new cylinder and ten mins to fit, so now both sides are changed for new so should not need to revisit again.

Give them both a clean up and give the headlights a once over with some compound with the da, sealed with collinite wax. They have done well as only started going yellow recently, and last time i done them was 18 month ago.

Passenger caliper seems to be intermittently sticking a little on the orange dci, noticed it recently as brake dust was horrendous. Will get the caliper changed before it gets worse. Cant moan at 154'000 on original caliper!

Long time no update

Both dci's behaving as usual. Clean up as weather has been decent.
20210523_133757.jpg

Changed dog bone mount on the blue dci as noticed it was torn when i changed the clutch. Oem this time instead of aftermarket
20210430_122649.jpg
20210430_132847.jpg

Fitted, 15 min job.
20210430_132855.jpg

Been using the ac all the time in the hot weather in the blue one. The heater blower has been a bit wheezy and not changed the pollen filter for 25k so stuck a new one in. Spot the issue.
20210604_192756.jpg

New one fitted and air con is absolutely on point. Nothing else to report apart from 68mpg combined motorway and street driving.

Love this pair, I get excited every time I see an update lol! I fancy building a new daily van from a dci80/100!
Cheers mate, both have been great cars. Blue one is doing 60+ miles a day no worries, its due a service very soon but apart from that nothing to report.

Hows the 172 van going? I wanted to do a dci 100 van but like rocking horse s**t finding a good 100 now.

Blue dci does the NC500

When i bought the compomotive wheels for the Kangoo i got a set of 6 so the plan has always been to try and find another pair so i can make another set.

Ive been sniffing around for ages on ebay and the usual places but nothing has been coming up as they are ultra rare mo1880 and assume custom made to suit megane 2 rs in 18x8, 5x108 and et66.

By chance i found one for sale on ebay recently and bought it, So the hunt was on for another to make a full set. Put a wanted advert up and by chance got a response with 1x wheel on exactly the correct spec needed. Problem was it was in the North of Scotland almost at John o groats and needed collecting!

Not a problem though as i needed the wheel and ive always wanted to go up north so checked tyre pressures and fluids, filled it up with diesel and set off.

A fair bit of the route was on the NC500 which was epic as the weather was dry and warm. Great roads with great views.
20210827_175105.jpg

Stopped in a manor house and tried haggis then straight back the next day. Quick pic at John O Groats whilst in the area.

So cheap to run, theres no way im going to electric until diesel runs out. Back to usual grind of mixed motorway/street driving and down to 76.6mpg

Mot tomorrow. Done a pre check the other day and play in n/s tie rod and front discs looked about worn out on the inside as a large ridge.

Went down the local motor factors and picked up a new tie rod/track rod end, discs and pads for £60. 1 hour to fit it all and should be good for a clean mot tomorrow fingers crossed.

Blue dci straight through mot. Cleaned up as i like to present a car for mot looking decent and the amount of flyes on the windscreen was ridiculous after the scotland trip.

19k between mot's! Mostly work mileage.
20210904_133216.jpg

Orange needed a clean so give it a good once over. Quick coat of polarseal, really makes the orange pop. Boot solenoid had broken so replaced that and give it a once over.
20210904_133117.jpg

Removed turbo on blue dci and it checked out as good, no oil on exhaust turbine so the blue smoke from cold must be from worn or gummed up rings, valve stem oil seals or dribbly injector (starts too good for that i reckon).

Assuming its rings at the moment. Monitoring oil consumption which is around 800ml per 1000mile so getting up there, but not a new thing as its been using oil for a while now. Might run it until its using more oil than fuel and then give it a quick & dirty bottom end rebuild? Will see how it goes.

Had a puncture on site the other day so had to fit the steel spare with 18 year old conti tyre on to get home.
20211007_113945.jpg

Looked alright, id rock the steels on it:unsure:anyway puncture repaired and normal service resumed.

16s would kill the power or be expensive for low profile tyres  If it starts drinking it i might bosh a thicker oil in.

Egr failed today. Was stuck when checked when i had turbo off recently, it seemed to free off ok so refitted. Started sticking again resulting in rolling coal last week and hesitating like f**k today. Dug a good used one out of the garage and fitted, reset egr parameters on clip. Like a new car now goes loads better, if this one packs in its going to be spun 180 deg and sent.

141'000 on the blue one and 155'000 on the orange clio. Orange one is sweet as too, prob run forever with regular servicing.

Average mpg of 72.8 on the blue one, its amazing. Thats motorway and urban normal driving too, it runs on fresh air.

Yeah at £45-£50 for a genuine service kit it’s a no brainer. Been doing the daily dci every 7000 miles roughly as it doesn’t get shown much love but they’re cheap to run and it’s not let me down yet! 🤞🏻

Orange one used to be my daily driver a couple of years ago before i got my current job. The mrs then used it to commute for ages but has been working from home since covid kicked off, so its not getting used no where near as much as it was. Did consider selling it at one point but its worth nowt and its a clean little car, and owes me absolutely nothing as only cost £80 5 years ago.

Insurance and running costs for both is so cheap its unreal. Less than 2 months payment on a pcp'd new car.

The blue one has earned so much money over the last 18 month or so. I get 45p a mile at work tax free iirc, and last month done just over 1300 miles so around £600. Fuel cost for that mileage was only around £100, its a nice bonus.

Indeed. Run the blue clio until it falls to pieces then move onto the next banger that will do silly mpg.

Cought up with the recent developments @Brigsy, your fuel economy is unreal !
My 80 does primarily city miles withe the odd motorway drive, but I've never been above 62mpg.
Your figures make me think I'll probably have to get both the kat and EGR back on, hopefully that's the trick !
