GDI/AWT 182, 205bhp - 177lb/ft.

Spec is,

AWT billet cams
AWT stage 1 manifold
OMEX 600
172 ph1 cable throttle body
viper
sports cat
2.5" custom single exit exhaust
silicone bend

Leda coilovers

The car has been at GDI for 2 weeks, a bit longer then originally planned. Picked the car up today and am very pleased. Under the bonnet is spotless (see pics) and every thing is very neat and tidy. Not that bothered personally how it looks but it gives the impression that Andy takes alot of pride in his work and has put alot of effort in.

The car is quick standard but know it is different again. There is no 5000 kick the car just accellerates hard from 3000rpm to the limiter. It is stronger at the top end but now due to the torque the car feels much better mid range. It sounds sweet on full throttle know aswell maybe due to the viper?

The cable throttle makes a surprising difference, throttle respone is instantaneous.

Small issues are the engine judder off the throttle below 3000rpm. Nothing major though and nothing a bit more time mapping wouldnt sort out..

Overall very impressed with the car and GDI, will no doubt be visiting them again when I have saved up some more cash. Also mention AWT, Bens new cams have done the buisness

Thanks Andy and Ben!

nice, the only thing that lets that install down is the placement of the ECU, but i'm a bit picky about that!!! lol

top result as ever

mine's going in the glovebox! i'm not having a £1K bit of kit dangling in my engine bay!

Long day yesterday looking after my kids then the long journey to and from GDI down the A14 so maybe lacked a bit of enthusiasm.

Went out this morning to test cold start, running etc.
NOTE to Andy - cold start is fine needed a couple of minutes on the drive to warm up a bit before it would idle. But -4 today so your not going to get much colder.

So warmed it through then had a bit of fun (not to much though with the slippery conditions!)

ohmyfooking god!!!!!!

Noise + acceleration = BEAST

No traction control so interesting, I think I will go through front tyes quite quickly. Most impressive part is put your foot down in second at 2500rpm and it feels like you have just hit the 5k kick the torque is immense.

It is harder to drive doesnt like it below 2500rpm but all part of the fun. Changing down into second at low speed the exhaust lets rip with a few nice bangs.

All in all an amazing transformation if youre into a bit of a race car feel that is a beast to drive I cant recommend this conversion enough.

I just need to find some Type Rs to embarrass!

You don't have this work done and expect the same fuel returns though, i bet realistically you can expect 26/30 average, with maybe 20mpg when gunning it. Just a guesstimate though...

Sounds excellent mate, but do be careful with this cold weather - the understeer you can get sometimes in the Clio with ESP off if frightening in bad conditions. Oh and watch for the rozzers while your going nuts.

Interesting reading about your rough idle though, perhaps needs another day on the rollers once everything has bedded in to map that out? That said most 172/182 idle lumpy anyway.

  EK9 + Mfactory gearing..
shame the weathers crap at the mo Mark, ice everywhere no chance of full throttle eh, unless im in a mega hurry i always warm the engine for a few mins anyhow, as for mpg etc i think its the last thing on the mind of somebody who has any engine work.

There is not a rough idle... what the problem is, is the crossover from the main map to the idle control.... it can be sorted.... and does not need to go on the rollers to do it.

just wondering why in this case you've no pipe to the viper, is this for any reason in particular?

are there pros and cons to having/not having the pipe?

yes the idle is fine.

it did need to be manually revved this morning as it cut out initially on its own idle. I did this for maybe 30secs, if that, then it was fine.

Just to stress the car is amazing if I have picked out a couple of things they are only minor. I will get Andy to have another go at it in the summer as I will get my servicing done there now.

i do, because i might wanna get some work done when i buy a clio sport early next year just wanna no how it affects it, sorry i asked!

it goes down obviously, more powerful engine = less mpg

some of the top power cars can go into single figures on track

I had the jerky point moved to a place where revs dont sit during regular traffic, but then the engine would occasionally sit at about 1600rpm (you could blip it back to normal)

This was just done by moving 'dfco' down to about 1800 and 'idle on' down to about 1400. Not sure it has the processing power to cope will all the changes in such close proximity ;)

Need you and Ben to explain some elements of the initial setup and some of the abbreviations as they mean nothing to me. It's more my kind of thing than the subframe bastardisation.
:)
