Where would you buy a PS3 console from these days?

The cost for a new one is almost the same as a PS4. I own a PS4, I want a PS3 to go play some oldies that I missed - they're pretty cheap used, but I don't like the idea of buying a console via eBay...

That's one of the reasons why I prefer PCs. I spotted that GOG were offering Master of Magic for pence the other day - a game I played loads of at uni over 20 years ago.

Pay the pence - download it - and it just works. Obviously there's dubious shelf-life in a game of this age - but at least I have that choice. Given how cheap the hardware is on the previous generation consoles - all manufacturers should be able to support at least one generation prior - in terms of games and peripherals. Nintendo had it right with the Wii that had the Gamecube (?) ports on it. Ironically given what I just said - I never actually used that part (!) - but the option was there if I had previous gen games and controllers.

Yeah - people were 'dying' for 360 games on Xbox One, they then did it for many of the most popular games, but I for one haven't played any old ones. Perhaps it's because X Com Enemy Within isn't one of them!

EDIT: apparently X Com Enemy Unknown now works!!! Not sure about Enemy Within though. The disc is at my parents so need to collect it and try it out ASAP!

X Com 2 obviously...
BF1 to me doesn't look interesting. The graphics and presentation look great but WW1 was just a horrific mess of a war. Trying to simulate that for a game just doesn't sound very entertaining...e.g. lying prone for ages waiting for people to pop over a trench to mow them down? No thanks!

Bro, do you even history?

Some of the greatest battles happened during WW1. A lot of stuff takes place before you reach the point of settling in a trench.
How do you think it happens lol?
"Right everyone, cease fire, you see ze Germans? We've agreed to dig a trench 300 yards from them, we will remain there for the rest of the war"

I'm sure the game will concentrate on the interesting offences. Gallipoli rush would be amazing - beach assault to cliffs a la D - Day? Yes please. Verdun, Somme, Paaschendale all were very exciting - well the 'before' part. Tannenburg in the snow??! Come on...... Trench warfare would be AMAZING for Rush. Clearly defined Offense / Defense etc

Besides - I don't think EA make realistic war sims? Unless I missed the game where you sit around for 8 months setting up a base, go through the emotional turmoil of your missus doing Sgt. Stayathome before being bombed accidentally by your allies.

Battlefield Iraq would be great - you can play the whole game without ever completing the "Find the Weapons of Mass Destruction" objective.

Battlefield Afghan could be even better. Play the whole game without seeing the bad guy only to find out he isn't even on the game map.

A valid and brilliant response! Although still not entirely convinced I'll probably end up getting it - I've had everyone since BC2, excluding Hardline

I'd love to try the new Warhammer. Although a 40K version would be my preference. Imagine controlling an entire battalion of dreadnaughts and terminator marines...dreamy!

I'm pretty sure that will be on the cards, m8. Given that the game formula is clearly popular - it uses a recognised universe and it would principally be a reskin of existing units.

I was a bit pissed at missing out on the free Chaos Warriors DLC with the recent game. I had until 6pm GMT to fire up the game and claim the DLC for free - and I didn't login to Steam until nearer 7pm. By that time, the DLC was nearly a £5 add-on. I still bought it though! ;)

Mafia 3 I'm really looking forward to. I'm not entirely sure why as I can't pinpoint what I enjoyed so much about Mafia 2 but it was one of my favourite games so hopefully this can live up to my expectations

Witcher 3 really has my eye. I've never been into RPGs until recently and, so I'm told, its excellent.
I can vouch for it - I don't like RPG's either - Fallout 4 is probably the only other one I've played for more than an hour - and I really enjoy The Witcher 3.

You were so positive about The Division though...?

Yeah I read that too. Although if Fallout 4's graphics are anything to go by, it won't be that noticable!

Mafia 1. One of my favourite and most memorable gaming experiences. I adored it even though the driving was lacklustre
2 was also good.

Im excited for bf1 too. I love the ww 1 and 2 games. Not as keen on modern ones
hidden and dangerous 2 was made by the same people as mafia 1 which was another good game

Hands up if you've never even heard of XCOM....? If this is it it's not for me

Also - Mass Effect Andromeda looks great. Looking forward to E3. Not looking forward to finding out my console is soon to be made redundant by the Xbone.5. Microsoft must be launching/announcing a new exclusive too..... only exclusive is Gears of War? Is that enough?

Sorry I stopped listening when you said you weren't interested in XCom 2 aka game of the year 2015, sequel to XCom which was game of the year...

Admitedly that demo does do a poor job of selling it - looks like it's from an early level and you don't really 'get it' until you play it. I assure you it is amazing once you get into it!

Halo Wars 2 is out though?

And me, I prefer the simple weapons and action instead of fricking laser beams and s**t.

Hope BF1 has a digging under enemy lines mission to plant explosives.
Draw distance = 2ft. Pitch black, bar one-candle power and an in-built Shovel Simulator. Sounds awesome. ;)

That said, I know what you mean. Better - would be having a round against the clock where the attackers fight to obtain scraps of intelligence. When 3 or 4 parts are located, they combine to reveal the layout/position of a large mine underneath friendly lines. Then the last stage of the round involves the assault on the tunnel entrance and mine in order to defuse it before the timer runs out.

Could be tricky to implement. Corridors are great for defending and frustrating to attack in FPSs. The Titan consoles and core were a right PITA to take out in BF2142 - if the defending team worked together. Perhaps one caveat would be the defenders (or a majority of them) have to leg it through an escape tunnel before the mine goes off? If a set number of defenders get wiped out in the ensuing explosion - then the attackers automatically gain a win. That would stop 16 defenders all cramming in a tunnel, firing an insurmountable volley of fire at the attackers until the clock ran out. Also, the idea of mass suicide just to blow up a hillside would be a bit far-fetched. It's not the Japanese mentality of WW2, after all!

Might have to give it a bash in that case. Chess meets Rainbow 6 it looks like. But no, literally never even heard the name!

It's a bit slow to start but quickly becomes addictive. Basically you have to raise a small army and create a base, there are the turn based levels and outside of that a meta game where you're developing your capabilities and deciding which technology to invest in. You can name and customise your squad (how they look, what skills and weapons they have and specialisations - even give them nicknames, different accents and nationalities) and if they die, they're gone for good! It becomes pretty emotional when a long staning vet gets mown down by a surprise attack.

In the last one I used to role with 2 mechanised soldiers in massive exo suits, 2 snipers, a support medic and an assault 'shock' trooper most the time. I got properly attached to them all and by the end they all had massive armours, plasma weapons and some bio upgrades too.

I never play it on that difficulty to let that happen! Reload the save game FTW!

Pu$$y! :)
There are lots of other fun modifiers you can try out though - I've probably done about 10 total completes but no 2 campaigns are the same and I always try out different strategies. But, I prefer big tank like units just because they look cool

I normally bypass stuff like this - World of Tanks did little for me (unfortunately). However, it has tanks in this - which is winning - and the fact that Obsidian Entertainment are behind it. Hopefully it might actually be alright?
