It'll be quick when mike and I have finished with itAbsolutely gutted to read this, although i'm very much in the "your just throwing money away" camp now. Put a standard engine in it & enjoy it. Its never going to be particularly quick anyway (even with 210bhp) so just enjoy it for what it is. Maybe its just luck, but i've had 3 Trophies (& endless 1*2's), kept the engine standard on each, & barring routine maintenance, thrashed the ar5e off each of them with no issues.
Id suggest you do the same, you could have probably bought a CSL with all the money you've ploughed into this :weary:
Because, boost?? [emoji41]It'll be quick when mike and I have finished with it
They call me 2 bar terry, not atmospheric AdamBecause, boost?? [emoji41]
It'll last, several things on the current spec aren't to our recommendations for the build itll be having.Whatever happens I just hope it lasts.
I can't deal with the stress. [emoji4]

Thanks for replying and continuing to follow the thread mateAndy I'll echo the above and say how gutted I am for you. I had hoped Russ would have fixed most the issues, obviously didn't appreciate how deep they ran. I respect your attitude and commitment to the build.
Hopefully we will see you at combe next month?
I don't think there is a single person on the forum that doesn't want to see you driving his in anger again
I hear you mate. With all the money I've thrown at this car since I bought it I'd be well on my way to BMW 1M ownership by now (a car I secretly desire). Hindsight is a wonderful thing but, sadly, I went past that line of no return a while back and it's a plan that didn't work out. As hinted at already there are many options on the table and I'm going to consider them carefully. I think I've pretty much made up my mind after a chat with friends and, importantly, my bos- good lady. She just wants to see me in a car and happy again at the end of the day. As sad as it is, the car/driving is my only real hobby. I'm not big on lavish holidays, don't drink, don't smoke, am generally boring. Hence the lack of car to have some fun in has been frustrating. Sure, I love the Type-R and will continue to get my NA kicks from that but it still can't deliver on the smiles that the Clio can bring. When it's working!Absolutely gutted to read this, although i'm very much in the "your just throwing money away" camp now. Put a standard engine in it & enjoy it. Obligatory (misleading?) image now coming up...Because, boost?? [emoji41]
Russ, you've been my rock dude! x LOL! Replacing the boot struts was the icing on the cake my friend!it will be good once done, and as s**t as things have been, it WILL be worth it in the end.
I'm looking forward to this build
Cheers Andy. I'm pretty much over it now; only the odd breakdown and trickle of tears! A few days away courtesy of my amazing better half has put me in a good mood and the fact she has agreed with my choices / ideas so far (in terms of getting the T back on the road) has also helped my mood. LOL!Two bar terry Dan LOL
" If it doesnt blow it sucks"
Chin up Andy lad

Boost is certainly a possibility mate and one of the options being looked at. And you are quite right, regardless of how the build / mapping comes together there is always going to be a risk. I was aware of that from the start hence made sure I had the finances together and enough in reserve in case something went bang. And it has. Sure, I'm upset and it's a lot of money down the drain but I'm not broke and I appreciate I'm in a very lucky position to be able to try different things with the car. I guess it's one of the benefits of being almost double the age of many people on here and not having a family and/or expensive hobbies/habits!Andy I really get the feeling you're prepping yourself to throw more money at this in the form of boost and giving it one last go. As cool as it will be I think if you are considering ploughing more money into this (more than a standard engine and ecu will cost) then you want your head looking at lol.
I never thought there would be issues with this thing after Fred spent so much time on the build but apparently even after that much careful consideration with the engine build it can still go wrong.
Stick a standard lump in it, see if it lasts more than a few thousand miles of abuse, if the new lump proves to be good then consider boosting it but only when you know its a reliable engine to start with.
Dont want to sound like I'm preaching but if I come on here again for updates and see the trophy has had yet more money thrown at engine modifications and its gone tits up then I'll probably cry for you.....and send a big slap in the post lol
I'm also wondering why on earth you havent just modified your ladies CTR? You'll get much better power gains from tuning that and getting the chassis set up properly will make it quite entertaining down a 'b' road
Hey, my pleasure - I'm always open to feedback, comments, ideas, opinions, suggestions, criticisms so thanks for taking the time to reply at length. Will I enjoy the Trophy? Yes - I am pretty sure I will mate. I've had many good memories and times prior to the more serious problems (even if the car wasn't exactly 100% back then either!) The RenaultSport Clio 'thing' has just bitten and I honestly can't think of a more fun and enjoyable car to drive for such relatively little money (obviously until the modifications begin!) I've always maintained that the Trophy will be a keeper and it will be; even if this is the last 'major' effort I put in to the car (not including general maintenance, servicing and car care). Whilst the car has been away with various specialists over the years I've been able to enjoy a few different Clios with different levels of modification (loan/courtesy cars) and they all have had the distinct RS Clio 'something' about them; something that makes them fun to drive. I'm confident it will be back on the road and that I will be able to enjoy it this time. Thanks for the reply Andy.
I just know how disheartening it is when things don't go quite the way you want them to, I've not went to the extent of your builds and quite glad I haven't I've just had a trophy that liked to eat engines for fun. They're a very special car in their own right and most people who own/have owned one will know where I'm coming from, most who haven't probably won't understand it's appeal over a normal Clio 1*2 so I can see why you're sticking at it. My comments about abusing it with the standard lump were really so you got chance to get back in the car and have some fun without the worrying thought of that 'yet another expensive build' going up in smoke. Do you know if you will even enjoy the car anymore? Have you had so little enjoyment from it these last few years that you're casting your mind back to the times when there wasn't any issues and life was all Rosie in trophy land?
Hey, George - thanks mate. I want to get off this rollercoaster now! :tonguewink:I am so pleased you are motivated to get this car working again in one form or another!
I have my fingers crossed for you mate - as always.
A match and a few litres of super unleaded is one of the options actually... hahahahaha! £50k+ though on your friend's VXR?! Even I think that's a bit mental! What a shitter, but like you said its always a risk even when you have built it to such a great spec. Reading it, I think I would of just threw a match on it by now but reality is if I was in this position I would be itching to make it work again and not giving up either.
You sound like a friend with a astra vxr, he must of piled £50k+ into it by now! Build it, break it, rinse and repeat lol.
Exactly Russ - you've got to take the positives. Every cloud and all that! :tongueout:I think with this it's just been one great huge pile of bad luck.
But Andy is due a good lump of good luck and we will make sure it will be all good!
At least you don't have to worry about it flooding the interior
Cheers for reading the updates Chris. I can only echo your words and say that I, too, look forward to seeing it on the road again :grinning:Gutted to hear the bad news, just read the updates.
I look forward to seeing this on the road again.
It will happen
X
Cheers Tony.As we discussed.
Sorry to hear your predicament.
But at the same time.
I'm worried!!
The sledgehammer is also still an option at the moment...Honestly, I'd of beat the f**k out of it with a sledge hammer months if not years ago.
Gutted to hear the news, fair play for the dedication though. Shows true passion .
Likewise mate, it was good to meet you too. Apologies for the interruption though!Good to meet you today mate, I've heard about this and had a read of the thread and don't know how you've kept going! Fair play to you though, and you're in safe hands now  Be good to see it back on the road  All be worth it in then end!
Likewise mate, it was good to meet you too. Apologies for the interruption though!
Thanks for taking some time to have a look through the thread; I appreciate there's a lot of waffle in between the more 'serious' bits. Yeah, the car has certainly been a pain in the ass but, as said to you and Dan earlier, I'd made that decision to throw money at the car rather than buy something else hence I have to live with that decision! Had I known a few years back the trouble that lay in store, I would most definitely have bought something else instead. That said, yes - I'm more than happy it's with Dan, Chip and Mike (and that the engine is going to be built by Steve). Another lengthy wait ahead no doubt, but I'm determined to see it through.
Talking of cursed cars, I do hope your boosted Inferno is soon back on the road mate. I was sorry to hear the ordeal you've been through with yours too (although it was good to see you making progress on it today). When all is done I'll head over and join a south west meet / social and celebrate!
Who's steve, mark?Engine built by Steve I hear? Good strong reliable engine on its way then fella.
Steve is one of the guys that I turn to for advice or to run ideas/thoughts past, and not just car or engineering stuff. I've known him for a LOT of years and his advice and help through the years has been invaluable due to his vast experience. He's a good close friend of mine.Who's steve, mark?
What's the guy's background? [emoji3]
