Right, sorry for the late update, I have been following up this despite what people have been saying:nono:
So far 94 of you have emailed me your details, everytime i get an email i add you onto the list and it gets sent to renault uk aftersales service and i will continue to do this until we get a result.
In the most recent conversation i had with a representative they assured me they take all complaints are taken seriously but this has attracted 'particular attention' due to the number of complaints. However they do stress that the vast majority of the cars listed are over 5 years old and even with the best quality materials, wear and tear is expected. He was very honest with myself and said in his opinion this is going to go nowhere, the view they take is if it isnt a danger or doesnt stop the car operating as it should then it isnt a priority for them to get it resolved. i got the impression he was trying to say, 'the steering wheel is still round and turns the wheels so stfu' :dapprove:

Well my car will be 5yrs next August, i originally complained to my local Stealers approx 1.5yrs ago about this but got no joy with them, spoke to RenoUK and they stuck by the what the Stealers said, basically wear and tear, the car was still in warranty at the time. Also this thread has been going for ages so alot of the cars would have not been 5yrs old, when i complained about the Trophy it was only 2yrs and 10months old.
The same garage which said no to the steering wheel on the Trophy actually replaced the steering wheel on my old 182 one year previous to me taking the Trophy in.
You should get Watchdog involved!

The thing that gets me is that when the car was origionally sold it said that the steering wheel was leather, which wouldn't melt.

This is indeed true althouth under the Sale of Goods Act 1994 (Which applies for 6 years from the date of sale)

States within this Act -

• If a consumer chooses to request a repair or replacement, then for the first six months after purchase it will be for the retailer to prove the goods did conform to contract (e.g. were not inherently faulty)
• After six months and until the end of the six years, it is for the consumer to prove the lack of conformity.


It also States -


For the purposes of this Act, goods are of satisfactory quality if they meet the standard that a reasonable person would regard as satisfactory, taking account of any description of the goods, the price (if relevant) and all the other relevant circumstances.


Now I would suggest that with over 300 names down on the list stating that they are not convinced that the Steering wheel finish has lasted for a satisfactory period of time that as the consumers we would have sufficent proof for a court of law should it ever have got to that stage (Not that it would as someone would have to finance such a case)


I think RUK are sitting back hoping that people go away and or forget about the issue and hoping that people are not clued up on the 6 Year Supply of Goods Act.

My mums skoda estate is 11 years old on 167k not been cleaned inside ever i dnt think outside maybe once a year by the polaks and serviced when it refuses to go anymore BUT STILL THE STEERING WHEEL IS FINE.

Can someone post a screenshot of what the "melting" looks like? Mine started to wear on the right just by the hand grip but I wouldn't exactly describe it as melting! :S

I think this also needs adding to our complaint as it may help us get ours sorted.
Its about the 197 melting steering wheel, apparently 197 owners are told its a 100% warranty item, so if the 197 is then the 172 / 182 should have also been.
