Nowt wrong with the D40! I only got rid of mine because I was pissed off with the ISO performance.

Just read all this.
Never realised until now, that the shape is so classy. It just hasn't dated at all.
Fair play for you sticking with it.

Surely a wheel refurb has to be one of the easiest things you can have done, given your proximity to that working environment.

Can I have a go?

Let's face it, a free job isn't going to get priority is it?! I usually get mine done as and when, just never got round to getting these done.

Have a go, it won't even let me have a go!

Spot the mistake...

Probably a blessing in disguise, because I don't think there's anything up with the current alternator. Bloke I got it from on eBay was sound enough so a refund is due my way.

I do like this car - I had a nosey on pistonheads a while ago and most of them are too pimped for me.

Dude as I said on Fduk that alt don't even look like a fd alt... That pulley is defo wrong! How much u pay for it?

The pulley is wrong I know, but that's interchangeable. The mounting points were correct, but backwards, but it was listed as an FD one. £160, getting my money back and just chancing that my existing one isn't the problem when my belt comes.

It's probably the air pump, it makes an horrendous sound when the clutch engages/disengages.

U got someone building it back up for u? Or u doing it? If you are on the rear housing where the brushes are... Slide them in then from the rear of the housing slide a pin through there to hold the brushes back... Then you can slide it back together easy.

Yes I know the guy he bought it off, yes I recommended him, I have got a lot of parts off of him, never had an issue or problem with him, I know many people who have bought off of him and still use him.

He was at my house a couple weeks ago delivering a gear box.

The car was an import anything that was done to the car wasn't done by him lol... Another issues aren't my Business....

People on here are quick to jump but I can bet 95% of you have never been in or worked on a Japanese imported car... The issues gaz has had with the car are not unique it happens all the time.

Thewhite fd gaz looked at and was messed about over I know the guy who was selling that... Guess that's my fault too.

Yes he's your mate, but frankly I'll never have anything to do with him again. What's done is done, but there's a lot more to it than anybody but himself and I know.

Thanks Jamie.

Im not claiming to be any kind of specialist when it comes to rx7's or imports for that matter but my DC5, my freinds DC5 my mates numerous CRX's, Supra's,200sx's and skylines haven't been in such a poor state of repair. As someone pointed out earlier in the thread if this is one of the best he has so sells complete I cannot imagine what ones he considers fit for breaking looks like. Its all well and good the japs wiring is shonky but from my personal experience my own cars and the cars of my friends have been wired up pretty well.

The car in my opinion is getting there having quickly scanned over the progress but to claim it must be one of the cleanest rx7's in the country is probably one of the most ludicrous statements I have ever heard.

Now not knowing much about these cars this may be a stupid comment but the car is more or less standard is it not? Apart from the wheels and suspension which was fucked. I think what probably happened was the guy bought it on good authority at a good price of it being a good condition car, paid for it without seeing it and got it, being standard couldn't break it for much so decided to punt it on. Forum status is one thing, being potentially massively out of pocket is quite another. Now as I said im not up on the rx7's so could be mistaken but that seems logical to me. No doubt malice will be along shortly to shout me down with petty insults but since this is a forum I thought I would give my opinion.

I've not fixed it yet. Just waiting on some air pump blanks and I'm good to go. I've got new bearings in the alternator, some Dragon performance underdrive pulleys and a 5pk780 belt ready to eliminate the air pump though.

Whilst I'm waiting, I'd bought a few bits to tidy it up. Unfortunately, couriers love to break my s**t, but these sidelight/indicator units survived.

They were a bit yellow and cracked when they arrived (although eBay images didn't show that), but nowhere near as bad as mine so I cracked on polishing them up.

I took one yellowy light...

Then wet sanded it with 1200 then 2000 grit, then polished it up with Sonus polishes on my DA polisher...

Hopefully I'll get her back on the road this weekend with a few other bits sorted too.

Cheers dude, they were seriously bugging me!

I've rebuilt it this morning. Underdrive pulleys are on, and it now runs.

Just need my blanking plates to arrive for the air pump, and also need to go get a new tyre pump as I've got a very low pressure rear tyre, and my pump decided to s**t itself after 30 seconds of use!

Was going to fit the rear brakes but after the pump failing I just thought sod it.

I really need to to see this. It makes me think back to when I had the rx8. I bet they are both completely different in every way.

With a bit of luck I'll get to a meet at some point!

Yesterday, I fitted the rear brakes. Well that's not entirely true, I fitted the discs only. Reason being, I couldn't bodge a tool to wind the calipers in. Luckily the old pads were still full of meat (about 7-8mm), had worn evenly and were Lockheed Delphi, so hardly some pissball brand nobody had heard of.

About a mile later, I'd made the black paint perfectly circular!

Today has also been a busy day. After cleaning the car yesterday, I noticed some brake fluid on the drive. So took it over to SlideMotorsport and had it on the ramp, but luckily nothing is leaking. Then I picked up a stone chip on the motorway in the windscreen

This afternoon I also managed to get it aligned. I'd put up the printout but frankly once I got home I just wanted to drink, and now I can't be bothered to scan it. It drives far better than it ever did (I was running daft camber all round ranging from -3 to -4.5!). I'll put the printout up in the near future. To make up for this, have a pre alignment image I took with my new camera midweek...

I might get some more bits sorted this weekend, weather and beer providing.

wow! this is one of the best rx7 around imo, nothing tacky about it!

are they driftwork wheels nut?

Adz

  Work van
they look like the ones i got from driftworks, mine are all covered in rust now though :(

Doesn't surprise me, nuts are nuts at the end of the day. Wanted some Part Shop Max ones but they're alloy, and I'd rather have steel and know I can tighten the f**k out of them without fannying around with the torque wrench like some kind of homo. Same here on the rust, the key just wears the coating, especially seeing as I have the wheels off it so much
