According to autocar the VXR is quicker round track and in a straight line (see last weeks autocar) but they voted the 197 best hot hatch under 15k the VXR came 2nd.
Take your VXR to Courtenay Sport for the tuning, I had a stage 1 remap done on my VX220 Turbo and they really do know there stuff.
101mph in 14.1 secs from a 181bhp 172 cup? Seems very very optimistic considering a std 172cup hit 100 in 16.9 (Autocars figure). I suggest where ever you had that tested you go back and get them to test their timing equipment as 9bhp increase doesnt lead to 3 secs quicker to 100mph.
Just...
I felt the same, when I swapped the 182 for a VX220 I never really considered the N/A version as the performance was similar to a 182 and I wanted something considerably quicker.
The common opinion though is that the VX N/A is a better drivers car with better handling but the Turbo version is...
I think the Cup looks good but yet again feel as it just another marketing excercise by Renault. You pay less but get much less. I think most people will have air con so thats the main weight saving gone.
If they can reduce the weight to 1200kg (40kg lighther than std) and the car actual...
the 182 takes 3.4 secs to do 90-100 becuase as speed rises the time it takes to accelerate increases. Just for your info it then takes another 5 secs to get to 110 (so 0-110 in 22)
The VX220 Turbo does 50-70 in 5th in 5.5 secs as tested by autocar.
Nobody believes your time becuase filming...
Your confident your DCi will pull away from my VX220 Turbo in 5th between 50-70? or are you confused and think i own a 182?
Also refering to the 172/182 debate i never mentioned in gear times, i was talking about 0-100. We all know diesel/petrol turbos are quick in gear
According to autocar the 182 to 0-90 in 13.6 and 0-100 in 17
So if yours is doing 0-90 in 17, 0-100 is going to be about 21 secs at best
Either ways its significantly slower than a 172/182
yes 172/182 are very evenly managed with the Elise and VX's.
Its the VX220 Turbo and Elise R you have to worry about as they have power to weight ratio of about 215 bhp per tonne
I always used Optimax/Vpower where possible, the few times I didnt I could notice any difference in performance but the MPG seemed to drop so I think the extra cost is returned in more miles, plus it cleans your engine.
From my experience of Renault dealers they would probably roll over laughing if you said you wanted a car for 4k under asking price! Not saying it cant be done though it depends how desperate they are to sell
Easy decision if you can live without the toys get a cup if not get the ff 172.
If you can stretch to it buy a 182 with cup bits best of both worlds then!
Just wanted to say what a cracking looking car they are. I have always prefered the new shape clio over the old to look at but have recently seen a black and a blue 197 and they both looked awesome.
Now if only it had the 225 enigne in then I would have ordered one!
The old Evo thing, I have never read as much crap in my life as i read during that issue.
Look at it another way the M5 lapped top gears track in 1.26, 182 did it in 1.34 so lets knock half a sec off for the trophy (not that it would be half a sec quicker as it was slower round evos track...
To be honest I have never thought the 182 was as amazing a the evo and co made it out to me but it is a bloody good car.
In Roy's case i think he is just bored of it
can anyone do me an HPI Check? Also is it possible to find out who the previous owners were as I think the car was a demonstrator?
If so let me know and Ill Pm you the no plate
