Its an 02 Cup with 26 k on it. Rattle started way before the 1st serice though, just that Renault didnt do f**k all to sort it out when I asked them to at the 12 k service, but then I didnt have time to bring the car back in due to my job, so brought it up at the 25 k service when they flatly...
I have the dreaded midsection exhaust rattle, Renault wont touch it, and I am now thinking about a stainless system, especially the one from Ktec. I know this might be a stoopid question, but would the replacement cure the rattle?
Thanks. Its a Cup, by the way.:)
I had my whole f**king set changed recently at the 24k service, pads and discs all round. The whole service cost, including changing back to the original gear linkage, £868. Gordon Bennett.
I have a question I hope some of you chaps can answer. My CUP has done 22k now and still has no mods, due to financial restraints. Things are going well now though, and I usually start with exhaust( I have my eyes on the new hidden one from ktec ), an induction kit( not a Viper-too expensive )...
"imports with cup suspension, spoilers and mettalic for £12995 from jefferries farm at Gatwick."
You forgot the free range eggs that come as standard...;)
I found the Contis fantastic in the wet... Around Mallory Park on the wettest trackday I ever did! I think it depends on driving style. I have just worn out a pair Goodyear F1s, they were very good as well, and a bit less fidgety on bumpy B roads. I have replaced them with.... Contis!! And it is...
Thanks guys, took the car to an independent little garage, where the guy correctly identified it as an assymmetrically worn brake pad, with a wear indicator or something in it, that was intermittently rubbing the disc! Changed pads, no problemos!
Cheers guys, went in to Renault today, and of course they had no idea whatsoever what it was. The idea was, drive it a bit longer and see if it goes away. Its a bit like going to your GP really...
My Cup has started to develop a nasty squeaky noise when I turn the wheel left more than right whilst applying the power. No juddering. Steering and brake fluid OK. Cant see anything untoward.
Any ideas?
Cheers!
I have Goodyear Eagle F1s now, a bit less tramlining than the contis and slightly better for road use. I completely disagree with previous posters who do not think much to the Contis in the wet; I had a stonking day on a soaking wet track about almost a year ago in the Cup, and I thought the car...
Driving about with the AP22 as a permanent fixture, I struggle to get below seven seconds to sixty or 18 seconds to a hundred now. Whats that bollox about? It runs on Optimax and Mobil One oil, and feels OK otherwise.
Apart from the fact my Sparco knob came off a couple times today whilst...
Yep, cheers, Mike, I saw your RR result some time ago, seems a rather powerful one, by comparison. I wonder why there is such a difference between cars of the same make? I think my Cup is about average, it is reasonably quick, but certainly not one of the fastest around.
To all of you who have modified your 172s, whether Cups or not, and primarily relating to power-enhancing modifications, eg chips, pipes, and intakes.
a) What have you had done?
b) Have you NOTICED any improvements, or indeed any decline in performance? AP22 before/after?
c) Have you got...
Haha! Says something about the size of my mate then! There was a good half a seconds difference when he jumped out. He wasnt impressed! Lol!
Have you found a good stretch of road to try yours out then? I finally did. Live in rural Northants, and found a long, flat stretch, with no crossing...
I think the AP is a great little gadget, good crack when the weather is nice, and youre bored and feel like a new clutch and some tyres...
My times in the Cup are with myself in it, so we can safely say that Rhys Mk1 is faster, as I noticed a huge difference with a passenger in it.
Have fun!
Here are a few of the runs I have done. These are the best times, other times I screwed up gear changes or pulled off tractor starts. I am sure these can be improved upon by people who are better than me at launching the thing.
Start Speed 0.0mph
mph s g ft hp
10.0...
I think a LSD for the Cup is an interesting proposition, but only for those who spend a disproportionate time in it on track. For road use it would probably be a complete waste of money that would probably shaft all aspects of your warranty into next century.
A racing LSD may also cause a lot...
Id say those figures are much more believable than others I have seen. Sounds like a well calibrated rolling road, which doesnt use overly optimistic settings to stimulate a few referrals for more "rolling road shootouts..."
I had to VR6s many years ago. The first one was a dud, the second one a gem. I still have the original Performance Car issue from 1994, where they test it against the Prelude Vtec and the Calibra V6. The Corrado comes up tops. 0-60 in 6.7, 30-70 in an astounding 5.7 seconds. Awesome.
