Guess who's back.... Back again....

Bloody Hell, Is this scrapper still on the go, Its only be getting built since 2014 and yet the chopstick gopher cage has been fitted.

Worth more in scrap

Right, back on topic.

It would appear that when the car was delivered back to me, the bonnet was shut - makes sense.

However, in my eagerness to strip the car, the bonnet release handle & cable was removed..... And now I can't open the bonnet.... D'oh!

Any pointers?

Edit: Front bumper is off, so there's access to the mechanism.

I would open the bonnet.

How did you remove the cable?
I take it that the bonnet was open when removing then closed... now you're trying to get back in?

If so with the bumper off, you should be able to get it open by putting a flat head into the mechanism. i could be completely wrong though 😂😂

Yeah, bonnet was open initially. It was removed prior to being taken away to have the cage welded in (and the handle inside the car is in the way of the front upright, so needed to come out).

I'll try the screwdriver trick. Otherwise, it might be a good excuse for a fibreglass bonnet....

What have you used for the fuel line breather after removing the carbon canister?
I have the same oil residue on my cam cover, tried all sorts to fix it. Seems I need Robbin the CC

Ebay motorcycle fuel vent breather, it comes on a little length of hose, but you pull that hose off and stick it onto the cars hose. Only cost a few quid.

Good news! The cable for the bonnet release was actually still there, so gave it a good tug (Ooo errr), and was able to open the bonnet!
Unfortunately, it was late and dark, and my enthusiasm to stay outside for any longer was very shortlived.

Lighter nights soon, and an itching to get this thing ready for CSF will hopefully spur me on.

@Steven103 came over this afternoon, and after I'd cleaned most of the crap from inside the car, we set about getting it running.

We hooked the race battery up, but it wasn't fully charged.
So got the jump leads out and used the pure power of the dci to give it a kick.

We struggled for a little bit with the immobiliser light flashing, the alarm Barry chirping, and no starting.

Steven then started plugging some bits back in, and we got it turning over. Still not firing into life though.

It was at this point we discovered nothing was plugged into the fuel pump... 🙈
Once that was plugged in, the car fired into life!

Not had much chance to get in the garage recently, but managed to get a few hours in there today, and Steven came over.
He was determined to get the front brakes sorted!

So with the new brake pipe flaring tool, and "special grease" in hand, Steven set to work. New fittings have been put on, and there are no leaks - happy days.

I also managed to get the blower unit out, and have put the blower in place. Unfortunately numbnuts here forgot to charge the drill, so no actual fitting took place. D'oh!
It looks tiny in there, bless it.

We also made a start on getting the drivers seat mounting points sorted. It was quite a task, due to the size of the seat, and a couple of bolsters fouling on the roll cage. It's a properly tight fit!

Once I've got my hands on a decent dremel tool, I'll be able to crack on with the bonnet aerocatches, and some other small jobs.

Bit of an update. Made a start on some of the smaller jobs.
Boot pins. Taking some inspiration from @M.C.. I got to work.

My foolproof way of finding out where to drill...

Got 2 rivets on, but the shape of the catch won't allow me to get the rivet tool flush to it. Will have to think of something else to replace the self tapper.
IMG_4867.webp

Found some 5mm silicone caps on eBay. Does well to seal the breather after removing the acoustic valve.
IMG_4866.webp

Got my rivnut tool (which is awesome!) and started on mounting the cold air blower for me in the cabin.
IMG_4868.webp
IMG_4869.webp

Got a dremel the other night as well to tidy up some bits and the boot pin fitting.
IMG_4857.webp

And yes @dann2707 the tar will be removed. :tongueclosed:

@JP83 Similar way I marked mine where to drill but I was not as brutal 😂
Just use some M3 or M4 (can't remember what size I used) stainless button head bolts and nyloc nuts instead of the self tapper, they are a bit fiddly to get the nuts on though.

Cant wait to see this drive. Let me know if you want any help.

Well it's been a while, and progress has slowed a bit lately.

Got the battery cage position sorted.
IMG_4915.webp

Also got the T7 heater; which will be my screen demister, mounted on the underside of the bulkhead.
IMG_4916.webp

Also got my switches positioned on the top dash. Keeping it simple, so blue = blower, red = demister.
IMG_4966.webp

And then today, was a day I'd been eagerly anticipated. Mr @AlexW dropped by to make a start on my wiring loom for me.

After a few hours, he'd trimmed the unwanted stuff out. Rear wiper/ washer, airbag and alarm crap, speaker wiring, climate, etc, etc.
Weighed it all, and it came to 8kg!

Unfortunately we got a few snags.
I'd only got 6 & 8mm battery terminal connectors, but the longacre bulkhead adapter is 10mm. Doh!!

Also my crimp tool for said terminal connectors was s**t.
Still, huge progress made on the wiring today, and I was very pleased with the progress.

Plenty more for me to do in the meantime.
Aerocatches for bonnet
Doorcards
Mount dash in place
Secure speedo
Fit exhaust centre and backbox
Fit seats
Paint cage and interior (will leave till after loom is complete)
Fit new headlights
Brake ducts
And other little things like bungs for old seat bolt holes, etc.

Few more little bits done in the little free time I've had over the weekend so far.
Started to remove the tar patches from the scuttle panel.

IMG_4977.webp

After mounting the switches in the centre of the dash, I decided to locate my Hazard switch on the right-hand side. The EPAS adjuster will also be located here too.
IMG_4980.webp

Also got my Brass reducer connectors for the coolant pipework for the T7 heater unit. Just need to grab some 13mm hose now and it'll be done.

Remaining jobs:

P-Clip battery cable in place (Rivnut )
P-Clip dash loom in place
Remove tar patches on roof, rear quarters and in scuttle
Fit dash and mount clocks
Fit window motor (drivers side)
Fit exhaust
Bleed brakes
Bonnet catches
Fit seat(s)
Door cards
Fit harnesses
Headlights
Brake ducts
Bolt tow eye in
Bungs for old seat mounts thru floor
Paint cage & interior

Today I popped to Halfords to get some heater hose. Last bit I needed to finish off the coolant hoses. Need to get some edging to go round the hole the hoses pass thru, to stop them rubbing and splitting.
(Yes, there's a couple of jubilee clips to go on too)

Also cracked on with the doorcards. Not perfect by any means, but they'll do.
Think I'll use some strong double sided Velcro to hold them in place.

Sister and the kids went home a couple of days ago so inbetween other jobs I found some time for the car.

First of all, started on the horrendous job of removing the roof tar. What a b*****d...
IMG_5018.webp

Then that was followed by the frightening job of putting the aerocatches in the bonnet.
IMG_5029.webp

IMG_5031.webp

IMG_5034.webp

Waiting on some longer bolts as I've decided to keep the inner skin on the bonnet too.

Got the EPAS unit mounted.
IMG_5039.webp

Also got some P-clips to keep the loom tucked up under the dash.
IMG_5040.webp

It's getting a bit neater in there now.
IMG_5041.webp

Waiting on some goodies to arrive over the coming days to really finish off some bits!

@JP83 you don't need longer bolts for the aerocatches mate, you just need to make the hole in the lower skin big enough for you to get a socket on. Aerocatches secured on one skin only is fine, and mine were tested up to 156mph at the Nurburgring.

Yeah, I realised that after speaking to @dann2707 about his, but I kinda like how snuggly it fitted. Plus the bolts were £1.50 for a pack of 25.
